Creating Spells

Mages most often formed spells for their use. Even though technically, mages could create spells, only a select few could create spells of a higher level. Most Noble families had their trademark spells which were destructive spells made by powerful mages in their family. Creating spells at a young age or level and even above one's level was unheard off. That was why Memphis' uncles were shocked when he created an Intermediate spell when he was only a Beginner Mage.

Spell creation is a delicate process so the Mage had to have a clear idea of what spell he was going to create. In spell creation there were many trials and errors as the Mage had to deliberately construct his mana and magic in the shape of his spell to bring it out. Of all the forms of spell creation, creating spells of one element was the easiest while combining two or more elements was the hardest. This was the reason why mages with two or more elements had an edge over those with one element because spells which are formed from more than one element are very powerful and potent as compared to single element spells. Also, the mage further had the chance of learning spells created by experts who combined two or more elements he possessed. For example, the poison and air spell, Poison spread was used by mages with those elements. Not all elements were compatible with each other enough to be combined. Elements which were polar opposites like Healing and poison, or darkness and light could not align with each other. Sometimes though, kingdoms could improvise and let single element mage soldiers whose elements complemented each other form groups which allowed their elements to mix and enhance each others spells for better performance. This made it that those who had two or more elements were highly favoured by the kingdom and army. Even though joining the army gave you a blood and bone pill which helped you awaken the blood and bone element, that only considered the physical strength of the soldier as soldiers are to be stronger than the average Mage.

A young boy stood in the Lerain training area. Even though he was only eight years, he looked older than his age and very handsome. His muscles were well developed and he was naturally Memphis. Memphis was concentrating on which kind of spell to create. He wanted to try out combining two of his elements to form a more powerful spell. When he was a Beginner mage, he couldn't do nothing of that sort but as an Intermediate mage, he could now combine spells. From his past life, he knew that light supported the flow of heat as even lightbulbs became hot when they were switched on for a period of time. Thus, the first spell he wanted to try creating was a spell which combined both light and fire. Based on what his aunt Maureen had told him earlier, light spells travelled fast so if he formed a fast moving ray of light which had intense heat, wouldn't he have a fast attack which had extremely fast speed and could cause searing pain? Besides, it was a versatile spell that if he mastered, he could use it incessantly and even as a surprise attack if the enemy got too close

He had decided to name this spell Heat ray as it was well, a ray of light combined with heat, thus heat ray. He had the idea alright but the problem was making it work. He had to find the right combination to harmonize the elements to form a spell to avoid them from cancelling out each other. Memphis formed a ball of light in his palm and tried to inject his fire mana into it, only to have it dissipate. Memphis was not disheartened and kept on trying to make the two elements exist within his palm. "No wonder polar opposite elements can't be combined. Even elements like light and fire which are compatible are even this much of a problem, how much more trying to combine Fire and Ice?" thought Memphis. Suddenly, he had an idea. He cast a light ray spell and followed up with a ball of fire. The fire successfully passed through the ray and the ray changed colour from pure white to to a white tinged with red. Unfortunately, the spell dissipated before he could hit the dummy but Memphis now knew how to go about it. "That's it!" he exclaimed.

Excitedly, he formed a ball of light in his palm and injected a small amount of fire into it which was barely noticeable. He threw it at a training dummy and watched as the ball of white tinged red light hit the dummy's face and left a burn mark on it. Memphis now knew the right amount of fire magic to insert into the light ray spell to make it combine. After trying and getting a hang of it, he tried it out again. "Heat ray!" he called, extending his palm forward. A reddish white light shot out of his palm with speed like a laser and smashed into the dummy, leaving a deep scorch mark on it!

Memphis pumped his fist in victory. He had done it! He was exhausted though so he took a rest and consumed a mana replenishing potion to bring his mana capacity to full again. Creating his first combined spell took him a full four hours of trial and error but he had managed to accomplish it.

Now he had another spell too which he had in mind and wanted to create. Back on Earth, Memphis had held guns before so naturally he knew the components and the power of bullets. What if he formed condensed fire bullets with his magic and imbued it with the space element so that they wouldn't miss or even better, teleport the bullet to hit the enemy in the head when they least expected it? Besides, it could save his mana due to him forming his mana into bullets. With that idea, Memphis got straight to work.

The reason why bullets were powerful was the sharpness, explosive power and speed. Thus he needed to consider these factors if he wanted his bullets to contain enough power. To geta fair idea of the spell, he decided to simultaneously cast two spells to see how it would work. "Space vortex!" cried Memphis, swiping his hands. A meter wide crack appeared in front of him and he fashioned a fire bullet and shot it in. The vortex closed and disappeared but Memphis was not worried. Instead, he pointed his finger at a dummy and called out, "Vortex open!" Immediately, the vortex opened above the head of the dummy and the flame bullet appeared, hitting the dummy gull force on the head. Memphis was pleased with this and decided to try another variation of it. Fashioning a flame bullet again, this time he infused it with a teleport spell and fired it at the dummy. It disappeared from in front of him and appeared just a meter from the dummy, smashing it with full force. "That wasn't bad," thought Memphis as he analyzed the results of his experiment. At least, he had managed to accomplish a feat. He had many other combinations he wanted to try but they had to wait till he was at least an Advanced or High Mage due to its complexity.

All in all, he was very satisfied that he now had new additions to his arsenal of spells.
