Chapter 18

It's been over one week now since Kira started residing with the Silvermoon pack and she hasn't been able to blend in yet or feel comfortable.

The news about her being Damien's mate was yet to be known by the Silvermoon pack members cause according to Kira's knowledge, Damien has refused to let them know which resulted in her always being indoors as he didn't want them catching her scent and asking for reasons why he had not killed her. Now, Kira had to live like a fugitive in hiding.

Not a day had gone by that Damien hadn't thought of a way to get rid of Kira. His mind always drifted back to what Sheila suggested but he couldn't even imagine himself doing such knowing fully well she was his mate.

He had started to stalk her and as he suspected, it seemed she may have ulterior motives which is what he planned on finding out no matter what and maybe use that as an excuse to finally get rid of her.

He just couldn't bring himself to believe any word that came out of her mouth and the fact that she was willing to stay in his pack all of a sudden confirmed his suspicion that she was here on a mission and was risking her life to do whatever it was that brought her here.

Now here he was, sitting on one of his favourite trees, something he loved to do since he was a child and now, he's staring down at Kira who seemed to be moving around a little too suspiciously for him.

He had given her a room at a secluded area where his pack members would rarely visit and he did that to avoid any kind of unwanted drama.

He looked up at the half moon in the sky surrounded with clouds and the stars that twinkle not too far from it. He inhaled the sweetest of the chill weather and enjoyed the calmness of the evening.

He still couldn't help but wonder if he had to be unfortunate enough to get stuck with this entire situation. He had never imagined in his twenty one years of living that there would be a day where he would have to keep an eye out for Kira while she roamed freely in his pack.

He knew it was perfectly normal for ones mate to be from another pack and honestly, he had a feeling his would be an outsider but ever since the war broke out between both packs, the mating between the silvermoon pack and the Redmoon pack ceased at least to his knowledge but he's stuck to wonder why his is any different? Why is the moon goddess suddenly backtracking?

Kira could smell something or better still someone but she couldn't fathom what it was and who it was and she kept looking around and scrutinizing the area.

As she kept on sniffing around, she was finally able to pick the scent and she immediately knew that someone was watching her and whoever it was isn't too far from her at the moment. She got up from where she was seated with her mind fully alert, ready to fight whoever it was that was spying on her.

Her eyes trailed around until she looked up at the tree and there it was, a mysterious figure was sitting comfortably on the tree and fortunately for whoever it was, he or she was shaded from the light by the huge branches of the tree.

She couldn't guess the intention of whoever was watching her but then again, she knew no member of this pack knew that she was Damien's mate so, it is quite possible that they would attack her with the mindset she was an enemy or an intruder.

Damien, who noticed his cover had been blown, jumped down the tree but wasn't expecting a blow from Kira who thought the figure jumping down was charging at her.

Her punch hit him straight on the nose and he groaned in pain as he wasn't expecting her to hit him.

"Fuck!" He groaned.

"Are you fucking insane?" He yelled in pain and that was when Kira realised that the person she had hit wasn't exactly a stranger but her idiotic mate, Damien.

"It's you? The fuck where you doing up there? You almost gave me heart attack! Did that hurt too much? Are you okay?" She asked and made an attempt to see if she had done any damage but he pushes her hands away telling her not to touch him.

"You better not touch me!" He spat out harshly. He raised his head up to look at her with anger in his eyes.

Kira noticed the blood that was dripping down his nose and she gasped.

"You are bleeding! Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry." She apologized and he immediately hissed at her insincerity.

"Don't be a hypocrite Kira. Don't even try to. Acting like you didn't actually know what and who you were about to hit. Fucking pretender." He hissed, searching through his pocket to see if he could get something to wipe off his bloody nose.

"Take this." Kira offered him a handkerchief and he scowled at her.

"Do me a favour Kira and keep your false sympathy to yourself." He replied harshly and she sighed.

Whenever he said harsh or mean things to her, she always felt a pinch in her chest and she couldn't understand why that was always the case. She also couldn't grasp why he was always so mean to her cause at this point, his harshness made absolutely no sense to him.

She scoffed as she folded her arms across her chest, "Has anyone ever told you just how big of an idiot you are? If not, let me be the first to inform you that you are an idiot." She spat out.

"What the fuck were you doing sitting up there like some stupid spy? Why would you even do that and exactly what did you expect that I do if not punch you as hard as I fucking could just in case your aim was to attack me." She snapped.

He hissed, "I'm not even surprised by your aggressive nature. I mean, anyone who tries to help you or is anywhere around you always ends up getting hurt, don't they?" He asked sarcastically.

Kira laughed. "Oh come on Damien! Don't be such a fucking baby and get over yourself. You still haven't explained to me what you were doing sitting up there and why in the world you'd even pull such a stupid stunt. I thought you were better than that." She spat out.

"Watch what you say girlie!" He warned as he pointed his index finger at her.

"Don't even for a second think I don't know what silly plans you have going on in that head of yours. I know you're sneaky Kira and I don't trust you one bit so you better be careful cause one mistake and I'm taking you out." He said, his words authoritative and stern.

"What exactly is this rubbish you think I have planned cause I would say you're the one cooking something nasty up in that head of yours and that's probably why got caught doing something as creepy as spying on me from a fucking tree." She retorted.

He growled furiously. He really hated being challenged and he hated the fact that he could not shut her up for being disrespectful towards him. At this point, she was starting to really tick him off and he doesn't know how long he'd be able to deal with her.

"You may want to control that mouth before I help you control it myself." He threatened.

She hmph, "And you think I'm scared of you?" She raised her brows in a questioning manner as she moved towards him daringly.

"You seem to keep forgetting Alpha Damien that I'm no ordinary person and I hold just as much authority as you do so you better not test me or you'll regret it." She warned him firmly.

He shook his head vigorously as he laughed hysterically. "We'll see about those sweets." He replied.

Kira throws the piece of clothing in her hand at him and he subconsciously catches it.

"You might want to clean up that mess on your mess cause you don't look very pleasing to the eyes." She hissed, infuriating Damien even more.

"Have a good time spying on your child!" She added before walking away and Damien could only fume while he glared daggers at the back of her head.

Kira muttered all kinds of curse words while she walked back to her room.

Damien thought he was the only one tolerating her but she was also doing the exact same thing and only for the sake of peace and for the purpose of what she had to do.

A day had not gone by that she didn't think of these creatures that are supposedly cursed by the sun.

She wondered just how they looked. She was also curious to know what their powers were and what it was they had that could bring her kind to extinction.

As she laid her back in her bed, she couldn't help but also think why Damien's words had affected her so much. Could it be because of guilt? He had helped her fourteen years ago and although it seemed like a long time, that moment was still pretty fresh in her memory.

Now that she thought of it, Damien had no intentions to kill her and he indeed helped her because he wanted to but he also shouldn't blame her aunt for reacting the same way any of his people would have if reverse was the case. Now, he had the worst thought of her permanently imprinted in his mind and it seemed nothing was going to change that.

As much as she wanted to keep the same energy with him and be as rude and as annoying as he is, she knew it was very unnecessary to stoop to his level and as far she was concerned, they was so much more she had to prepare for and getting into petty fights with an irritant like him would be the last thing she'd do.
