Chapter 100: Letter From A Dead Man

Eastern Side of the Southern Werewolf Estate

Allen sighed as he stared at the sky. It was cold out in the morning, and the sun was still blocked by the snow clouds, but it was bright out

"I wonder how I could even tell it was morning" he mumbled. His eyes had several dark circles around them which was unusual for their kind unless they were truly drained

"Thanks for helping out today" Alexa said as she pat him on the shoulder

"It was an order from her Majesty. I won't be able to ignore such order, even if I wanted to" Allen said as he looked back. Natasha and Cassandra were right behind them holding registers, while Jerald had his hands placed in his pockets as he followed them. "Though, I don't remember you being asked to do anything" Allen said and Jerald chuckled as they all started walking

"You know I hate to sit still" Jerald said "I'm so free, I had to ask for something to do since the mansion was so boring"

"And your task?" Natasha asked and he lifted up his own register

"I'm in charge of the volunteers" Jerald said while smirking before placing his hand on Cassandra's head "And Sloane said you'll help with paperwork delivery"

"If Fern saw you, her interest in you will drop to that of a bug. I suggest you get your hand off my head" Cassandra said and Jerald quickly pulled his hand back

"I apologise for the inconvenience" Jerald said and Allen sighed

"What was Sloane thinking sending this guy?" Allen asked while looking as Alexa

"Well, she did say 'He had an eye for talent'" Alexa replied back with a smile "She also said 'That's why he's very annoying'"

"Look. We've arrived" Natasha said while pointing at a large building up ahead. Several people had gathered in front of the hall and were noisily waiting outside, while the maids and butlers from the castle, were handing out food.

"Nathan really left us with something troublesome" Jerald said

"I was the one who took the job from him. Sloane needed him for something else but I guess he still lent a helping hand" Alexa said, before pointing at the maids and butlers who were handing out food, and the few who were directing people away from the door of the hall, after realising that those in charge had arrived "Although Sloane and everyone at the medical department had been handling shelter and clothing, certain resources had yet to be distributed. Among those were food, which Priya had already started manufacturing at the castle greenhouse"

"I see. On each of the residential buildings is a house number however, the number of people in said building is unknown" Jerald said "This will allow us to know how the food will be distributed. Nathan...is a really dangerous guy when it comes to smarts" he said as they all continued walking towards the hall

"If you want to see smartness that's dangerous, look at Sloane" Alexa said

"The officials have arrived. Make way" one of the butlers shouted and the crowd had to take it seriously, as they moved away from the front door, while Alexa and the others entered inside the building

"Announce this to the people" Jerald said as he casually handed a rolled up paper to the butler before heading inside

The butler stared at the rolled up paper before opening it. The ink used was made of blood but the smell of the blood was clearly ranks above even the butler who was a beta. The smell of the blood was also far stronger than Jerald's, with a scent of flowers and ocean breeze. The poor man trembled as he held the paper

'An order from her Majesty? Why was I given this?' the man wondered. There wasn't a single soul in the castle, who didn't know Sloane's scent. 'Follow orders. Just follow orders and make the announcement' he shivered

"Give it" the man heard a voice say and when he turned to the side, he saw Allen standing there. The man happily gave it to Allen, who was more relaxed than he was.

As soon as Allen had it in his hands, he turned to the crowd and opened the written order before clearing his throat. The once slightly rowdy crowd, quietened down immediately

"Listen carefully because, I'm not gonna repeat myself" Allen said before reading from the paper "This is how today is going to go for everyone. The hall in front of you is where registrations for anything important, will be handled. In order to know the total number of people in the settlement, those who will be volunteering for certain services and how rations will be distributed, every member of the settlement will have to undergo reregistration under the tribe they come from. The East will be handled by Allen Cain, the South by Alexa, the West by Natasha Kendell and Fallen immigrants from the North, by Cassandra Kendell"

"There are immigrants from the North?"

"How sure are we that they aren't traitors?"

"I thought I asked everyone to shut it and listen carefully" Allen said as his eyes began to glow and the crowd went quiet "The registration will require your name, age, demon rank from whatever clan you come from, tribe, any living family members, magic types or any skills you might know, and your blood samples for proof of your identity" he said while reading the decree "If participating in the war, the service and how much knowledge you have in said service, will be tested by Jerald Fernand and the person in charge of said service. As for rations, it is required that each person also leave their house number on the outdoor register with Rosco Fernand who will be arriving later. Or else, you'll starve during your time here and that won't be our problem. Nobody is your servant here and you are all equal before my order, for as long as this war holds on...signed, her Majesty the Queen, Sloane Michelle"

Allen tossed the decree back to the butler, he collected it from

"Deliver that to Priya Rodik at the hospital. She's the head of the medical soldiers and if you don't see her, ask of Ambassador Timothy from the North" Allen said

"The Queen sent a decree here?"

"I didn't know she cared so much"

"So, there's no special treatment for the nobles? That's good"

"This is preposterous!!!" one of the nobles from the East shouted "Not only did we lose our homes and have to move to the South, but now, this so called Queen is leading us to our deaths. Letting in northerners, giving those northerners high positions and saying everyone is equal before her for as long as the war holds-"

"I suggest you shut it before I cut your tongue off, myself. [Everyone turns quiet] Now, I plan on following that decree down to the latter. As for the nobles from my tribe, let me add one more thing to that decree...if I don't see at least two names from each of your families on the volunteers list, we're going to have a very big problem" he said and the noble who spoke before, gulped "From here on out, we do things orderly. If you're done eating, dump your plates with the maids and head inside in a straight line. Pick a number, and sit down until you're called. Obedience and patience is a necessary factor today" he then turned around and headed inside

The people murmured as they entered inside the hall. They were very careful with the words they said and as they crossed the door, a maid handed out numbers from one, in order. They took a seat after filling up the hall. In actuality, the hall was far bigger when inside, compared to when outside.

"Alright then, let's start with the introductions" Alexa said from her seat and most of the men whistled "I'm Alexa and I'll be in charge of registration for the South"

"A vampire?"

"That power is definitely someone who ranks far above us"

"Is she one from the Northern immigrants?"

"Cassandra Kendell, for the North" Cassandra said

"Natasha Kendell for the West" Natasha said

"The southern princesses are here too"

"They look so different"

"Allen Cain for the East" Allen said

"So that guy was the prince of the East"

"I knew it. That silver hair is proof they're distant relatives of the imperial family" when Alexa heard that, she turned to look at Allen who was impatiently seated with a frown

"Jerald Fernand" Jerald said "I'll be handling the interviews for the volunteers" he smiled "Do try your best to impress me"

"Four royals and one vampire, probably of the lord level. This is crazy"

"The fact that the five of us are here, is proof of how serious this matter is" Alexa said "Which is why, without wasting anymore time, I want numbers one to twenty to come forward so we can start the registration. If you could please do that in an orderly manner, we would very much appreciate it"

Twenty people stood up from the crowd and walked towards the open space before the desks. Once their numbers were called, they'd walk up to one of the four people doing the settlement's headcount and wrote their information down on the register, before making a small cut on their thumb and pressing it down on a small part of the register. If the information doesn't change, their identity would have been confirmed.

'Sloane probably planned this' Alexa thought 'If three women had to handle such a task, we'd be slightly looked down on by the nobles of other tribes' she looked to the side and stared at Allen 'His attitude is a bit like Nathan's and the fact he's a tribe elder also means his words carry weight. Along with Jerald, nobody would have been able to make complaints if important officials from all four tribes and two of the three clans, were to lead such a thing. She probably knew I would take over from Nathan'

"Scott, your little sister, Sloane, has become quite the dangerous and frightening woman" Alexa mumbled and Allen held back his laughter as he turned to look at her and smiled

"Everyone is changing" Allen said as he handled one of the people in front of him "Sloane used to always hide behind Nathan but now, she walks beside him while talking about complicated matters that are beyond even my understanding. Number seventeen"

"I thought I was the only one who thought that way" Jerald said from afar as he gave a stamp of approval on a piece of paper before handing it to the person in front of him "Meet with Priya Rodik or Timothy at the hospital and tell one of them you'll be applying for the position of a medical soldier. Sometimes, I don't understand the nonsense coming out of everyone at the hospital's mouth"

"They're playing the roles of war doctors or medical soldiers. Plus, they research on a lot of stuff so, certain things don't make sense to ordinary people or those not in the same field" Natasha said "Eighteen"

"It must be nice to be a prodigy. Nineteen" Cassandra said "My brother, Sloane and Priya are wise, talented in magic, and anything to do with war. If they set their heart to it, nobody can beat them at it"

"They're definitely the most dangerous kind of people" Jerald said

'I appreciate the compliment' they all heard Sloane's voice in their heads via telepathy and instantly shut up

"How long have you been listening?" Allen asked

'When Alexa mentioned Scott' Sloane replied 'I was wondering why Nathan started frowning while he was helping me out. His ears are pretty sensitive'

"Exactly why I say you three are dangerous" Jerald said

'Do you want to get punished?' Sloane asked

"Yep. You are definitely one frightening woman these days" Jerald said and Sloane sighed

'How are things going over there?' Sloane asked

"Great" the five said at the same time as they continued their work while calling out numbers

"I'm sure you didn't only eavesdrop to hear our conversation and check on if your orders are being followed" Alexa said

'Sharp as always' Sloane replied back 'When I was searching through the stuff the Connor family left for me, I found a letter in Scott's handwriting. It was addressed to you'

Alexa slammed her hands on the table and immediately stood up, shocking the civilians

'Don't leave your work to come over here' Sloane said 'I just thought I'd inform you so you'd be a bit prepared. When you're done with your business, you can come get it' she cut the telepathy and the others turned to look at Alexa who bit her lips, before sitting back down and continuing her work

'Just what I needed. A letter from the dead' Alexa thought "What a bad omen" she mumbled with an irritated tone

I had a whole lot of trouble when writing this chapter. It took me four trails but I think I finally got it right. I'm also very sorry for the late update. Enjoy and love you guys
