The Hybrid

Akito and Anna sat in his living room, waiting for Reiko to arrive, they sat in silence as both had a lot on their mind.

Akito had sent his mother a message asking her to come to his apartment because he wanted to ask her a few questions. He had also asked whether it bothered her that his friend was there, since she didn't answer after reading the message it was pretty safe to assume that she didn't care.

Anna had met Reiko before, however, they had never had anything more than a brief conversation. For that reason, Anna was very nervous.

'I hope she doesn't mind that I'm here, what if she wants to kill me? She is far older than Akito thought right? What if she is actually very different to what he thinks she is.'

Anna was quite concerned about Reiko, she had kept a secret from her son all his life, if she could do that then she could totally pretend to be someone she isn't.

While they sat there they both felt space fluctuate at the entrance to the living room and Reiko appeared out of nowhere, and she was not in her mortal form, which greatly surprised Anna.

"Hello!", Reiko was always happy to see her son, and as such had a slight smile, which in her current form was deadly for Anna. She had to give herself a mental slap to remember that she was not into women and that this was, in fact, Akito's mother.

"I'm glad you came, I wasn't expecting you so quickly, nor that you would completely ignore the use of the front door", he was a bit surprised that his mother teleported directly into the room. He knew she could teleport, but had expected her to at least attempt to use the front door as intended. "I see you haven't bothered with your mortal form?"

"Why would I, I already showed you and you are apparently fine with your friend knowing."

Reiko walked towards the bean bag in the room and claimed it as her own. She was still in the process of acquiring a bean bag she could call her own, and would take advantage of Akito's as much as she could.

After greeting Akito she turned to his friend, "We have not met many times, and we haven't met at all with me in my normal form. So I shall introduce myself again Anna. I am Reiko, Akito's mother and also non-human".

"H-hello." Anna was doing her best to keep her cool, but the Reiko she was looking at now was vastly different to what she was used to and it really hammered home that her best friend was not human.

"No need to be nervous, non-humans are generally the same as you. We think mostly the same way and all have the same feelings", turning to Akito, she started answering his questions. "So Akito, what would you like to know, I am happy to tell you pretty much everything".

"Hmmm…", Akito had many questions, however, decided to go with the one bothering him most as the first one. "What exactly am I, what race?"

Before answering Reiko looked at her son and his friend. Akito was clearly anticipating her answer and so was Anna, she was trying to hide it, but it was a useless effort in front of Reiko. "You are a hybrid, a mix of two races. You are mostly Devil and part vampire".

"Mostly devil and part vampire?"

"I suppose I should elaborate", she knew her answer wasn't detailed enough for his tastes as soon as she said it. "So your other parent is a pure-blooded Devil, I am a hybrid of a few races, I altered myself to make the perfect weapon. The races that got passed to you are Devil and Vampire. So that makes you about 75% Devil and 25% Vampire. Was it specific enough this time?"

"What other races are you a hybrid of?"

"I am a hybrid of 6 races. And those ar-. Hmm Actually…", Reiko had made herself into a hybrid, that much is true, but her 'state' was rather special as not all races were present in her in equal proportions. "I will divide it up by percentages it will be easier that way. So, I am 35% Devil, 25% Vampire, 25% Divine fox, 5% Werewolf, 5% Arach and 5% Succubus".

Hearing that she was part Succubus made Anna feel a little better about herself. On the other hand, Akito was wondering why the Divine Fox bloodline was not passed down to him. "Why were all these other bloodlines not passed on at all?"

"Divine fox is more of a 'state of being' than it is a bloodline. In itself, the bloodline is extremely weak, the same can be said for Arach. As for Werewolves, although it is a strong bloodline its portion is very small, which makes it unlikely to be passed on… And for the succubus bloodline, to be honest you don't want that. It makes yourself very difficult to control and its power is only useful in a limited number of situations", the succubus bloodline granted powers which were associated with the manipulation of those around you. However, it had a pretty massive downside, or bonus depending on perspective, it made a person very, very, very horny. Most of the bloodlines that Reiko had used to change herself could heavily affect a person's mind. The Devil bloodline made people easier to anger, the Vampire bloodline made it far more difficult to control their desires, the Werewolf bloodline made them want to seek out fights and the Succubus bloodline would make them horny. Luckily, Reiko was a very old and powerful god at the time she altered her bloodlines, she had a strong sense of self and controlling her emotions came to her naturally. The bloodlines made almost no change to her at all.

Akito was confused by her explanation of the Fox bloodline and pondering why the bloodline was weak, then he got an idea. "Wait so is the bloodline just that of a fox then?"

"Well not quite, it is and it isn't… When a fox achieves its evolution to a Divine beast it gains a few innate magical abilities, its bloodline also slightly changes however it is still at its core just a fox. Because of the bloodline's origin, it is rather delicate and was obliterated inside of you when passed on."

This spiralled into Reiko explaining how she used each of her bloodlines and why they got eliminated when Akito was conceived, at this point Anna was barely managing to follow the conversation having not read the book. She had only received a quick summary from Akito on the way to his apartment, her understanding of the topic was nowhere near good enough to follow the conversation, so she zoned out. The part that was important to her was what Akito was, and after gaining this information she gave up on following the conversation completely.

A few hours passed with a back-and-forth between Reiko and Akito until all his questions were answered. Noticing that he had run out of things to ask Reiko decided it would be a good idea to bring up Akito's future training. "I will unseal you today before I leave, you will likely be passed out for a little while. Once you wake up you need to message me immediately and I will take you away from Earth to start your training. It is important because you will not be able to control yourself when you wake up."

"Wait what, you will be taking him away from Earth?! And straight away after he wakes up? Give him some time to gather his stuff will you?", Anna had wanted to stick around and watch Akito train. This response just rewarded her with some very intense side eye from Reiko.

"Akito I want you to decide whether you want your friend to come with you. I will give you the privilege of taking her with you if she wants to. However, this means she will also have to train, I will not take someone who will just be a dead weight…", After giving Anna one last final look up and down, she stood up. 'Leaving those two together might be for the better, but I will take Akito away immediately after he wakes up, whether they like it or not. I don't want him to cause damage to this apartment.'

"Anyways, I will be heading off now. Come here Akito, I will unseal you now".

He got up and walked and stood in front of Reiko, she looked at him and saw determination in his eyes.

'Good, he is ready', she released another level of constraint, the cracks from her iris' extended and her entire eye seemed to be cracked now. The centre of the cracks turned a crimson red and began to glow like coals. She looked a lot scarier than previously, as soon as this change had occurred both Akito and Anna felt a lot of pressure. It was as if they had an elephant standing on their chest and shoulders, making breathing difficult and forcing them to the ground, Anna was starting to suffocate on the couch because of the pressure.

Akito barely managed to keep standing, and Reiko reached out and touched his forehead.

"@#%&£", a light emanated from her finger and entered Akito's head, causing him to pass out. The word Reiko spoke left Anna with a massive headache, she had only heard a buzz, as if she was not worthy of hearing it.

The cracks withdrew back to her iris' and the pressure was lifted from Anna. When she looked up, Reiko was carrying Akito to his room like a sack of potatoes. It took her a little while to recover and she walked over to the sofa with shaky legs.

'That was damn terrifying', Although Anna was no longer suffocating, the experience left her trembling 'What the hell just happened. I know that strong people can use their mana to pressure others but not to that extent. Plus it didn't seem like she did it intentionally… Was that just passive pressure from being near her?'

Reiko had put Akito into his bed and came back through to briefly talk to Anna. "I will be heading off now, if you could then please look after him until he wakes up. Not that he really needs looking after, but if he wakes up completely alone it might be a bit stressful as he will be really disoriented and his senses will be cranked to the max since he cant control them. It would be better if someone was around to explain what happened to him".

Anna hadn't calmed down yet and wasn't able to speak properly yet. So she just nodded.

Reiko smiled apologetically, 'She is quite shaken. It's not a surprise, she wasn't ready to hear that language. Especially not when spoken by me.'

It was understandable that Anna was flustered, the pressure they had felt was Reiko's passive mana pressure. It was an imprint of her immense existence upon those around her. However, even with all the pressure that they had felt it was greatly reduced. Reiko had reduced the pressure to as little as possible, if she hadn't done so then they would have gotten crushed into a pulp as soon as she changed her form. "…Well, I'm going to go now".

After saying that, space fluctuated and she disappeared, leaving only a very flustered Anna sitting on the couch.

Last week I had chapters posted every day, I had them saved as drafts and could post daily. I have run out of drafts and now everything is freshly written. I want to write chapters that I am satisfied with and cannot keep up 7 'good' chapters a week as I am busy studying for exams. I will be posting 3 or 4 chapters per week.
