"Hey!"
I shouted at the top of my lungs just to get the attention of the girl who was at the other end of the hallway. Her head which was full of white hair made it easy for her to stand out. And they only made it easier for me to spot her out.
"Wait for me."
I added as my steps caught up speed. I was almost jogging in the corridor and wondered what would happen if the headmaster was to see me like this. Running through the corridor was not a problem, but skipping a class definitely was. I was too focused on the apology that I started looking for her the moment I returned to the campus, and forgot about the class which I had during this period.
But I was glad that after wasting half an hour, I finally managed to find her. I could care any less about missing a class.
I saw her steps coming to a stop but she didn't bother to turn around and check who was calling her? Did she know it was me? Or she wasn't interested in the identity of the person who was calling her?
'Well, you will soon know the answer to that question, Aden.' My subconscious took a jab at me as I approached her. I could only let my mind deal with that annoying prick for the time being because I had something much more important to deal with at the moment, an apology.
"Hey?" I spoke up as my steps slowed down before coming to a stop next to her.
"Can we talk?" Looking at her side profile as she stared ahead, I managed to speak while trying my best not to stutter. I wondered where this sudden bout of nervousness was emerging from.
"What's there to talk?" She finally shifted her gaze from the turn ahead to me and gave me a questioning look.
"Can we go somewhere else? I really don't want to discuss it here with so many ears lingering around, ready to catch on what I am about to say to you." I gave her a lop-sided smile while tilting my chin towards the corridor ahead where a bunch of students were busy having a conversation.
I saw her look up in the direction and she gave me a mere shrug in response. I was about to lose hope that I might not get a chance to have a proper conversation with her, but what I heard next was enough to act as a bright ray of sunshine.
"Sure."
I could bet she must have thought of me as someone who had lost his mind after seeing the way my lips curled up in a smile after hearing her reply. The way she looked at me like I had a red button nose, was enough of a proof.
"Will the stands do fine for you?" I asked her as it would be wrong to just drag the lady to a place where she wouldn't be comfortable. The least I could do was to be a gentleman. "There won't be many people on the field at this hour." I added.
"How are you so sure?" She spoke up as she turned around and began to head out in the other direction which led to the field.
Not given any choice, I did the only thing which I could do then, follow her.
"I just know." I muttered under my breath as I continued to walk next to her. Though it was just me blurting out nonsense. I couldn't tell her that I was there looking for her just a little earlier and saw how empty the stands were. She looked like the kind of lady who would grill me alive if she got to know that I was potentially a creepy stalker.
A low hum was the only thing I heard in response as she continued to walk towards the field.
A couple of minutes later, we walked towards the stands and I was quite happy to see them fairly empty.
"You were indeed right.' She spoke up as she walked up the first stand and headed to the topmost row before settling down.
"Thanks." I muttered out as she scooted away a little to make sure that I was left with enough space to sit comfortably.
"It's no big deal. Can we jump to the point?" She shifted slightly so that she was facing me instead of looking ahead at the green field.
I could only nod my head in a yes as I met her gaze. I wondered what it was about her eyes which attracted me so much. Was it just their heterochromic appearance? Or was it the way they tend to glow when sunlight hits them at an angle? Or it was something else, something deeper which attracted me towards them?
"I thought you wanted to talk to me, not stare."
Her voice pulled me out of my thoughts and I gave her an apologetic look as I cleared my throat. I needed to stop my thoughts from wandering around and get to the point.
"I wanted to apologize to you." I finally managed to utter it out. "I am sorry for the way I acted out earlier, I shouldn't have done it. I should have asked you if I wanted to have a conversation with you instead of 'stealing' your notebook." I continued with my eyes set on hers.
"It's fine." She shrugged her shoulders in a nonchalant way as she tucked the locks of her hair behind her ear, only for them to slip out again.
"It's not fine. Especially after what happened to your hand." I added while raising my eyebrows at her. Apologizing to her was only a part of what I wanted to talk to her about.
"What happened to my hand?" I saw her narrowing her eyes at me as she looked at me skeptically. She could have fooled me with her words, but not her actions. They sort of gave her away.
I clearly saw her clenching her palms together at the mere mention of her hand. Her minimal actions couldn't escape from my eyes.
"Oh! Really?" I grabbed her right hand by the wrist and pulled it towards myself as I continued to stare back into her eyes.
