Chapter Eight

As soon as I was sure everyone was asleep I snuck over to the servant's quarters and snatched Sam up in my hand. They started squirming but didn't make any noise. I tiptoed down the corridor past my mother's quarters and quietly squeezed through the door to the kitchen. I very rarely went in the kitchen but knew there was a servant's entrance in the corner that wasn't guarded. I snuck through the door into the night air and exhaled loudly. I had gotten through the hard part. Now I just had to get to the forest without any guards seeing me. I started to quietly walk away from the castle when I heard a loud snap. I turned to find a guard staring directly at me.

"This is a dream." I whispered, "You're off duty right now and are imagining me."

"I know it's not a dream." he said in a hushed tone "but maybe it's a hallucination from lack of sleep. You'll be gone any minute."

I saw what he was trying to do. I mouthed thank you and ran off into the woods.
