Chapter 2 - Choosing a Class

"Link dive!"

Luna's eyes closed as she fell into a trace. She momentarily felt her mind fall asleep. Waking up to an all white world around her, Luna was amazed. There wasn't anything she could see for miles. In front of her face were two small icons in the corner of her vision. Similar to a computer's desktop application. One was a browser application that was just for exploring the internet. The other was Silver Skies. With Luna's excitement, she immediately started up the game. The world blackened around her and a new icon appeared in front of her.

[Welcome to Silver Skies]

Suddenly a castle and lava filled lake appeared around her as she started watching a cutscene. A man with dark orange hair entered the dark castle. He was equipped with a large sword that spouted flames from the blade and golden armor. The castle reminded Luna of old movies she saw as a young kid. When the hero saved the princess at the top of the tower. She really liked the idea of the game revolving around a medieval setting.

The man kept moving through the empty castle, only to reach the throne room. There was another person sitting on the throne. He gave off an evil vibe like a demon king. The two men started to have a conversation. Luna didn't exactly understand what was going on but desired a tub of popcorn nonetheless. It felt like a real life movie was happening in front of her. She was unsure if the game looked like the graphics shown in the cutscene. But everything felt so real to her.

"Serverese! Why have you given up on the world we hold dear?!" The man with orange hair shouted. He stood before Serverese and prepared for a battle. Serverese stared at the man and laughed.

"Hahaha! You wouldn't understand even if the whole world said it straight to your face! Don't think for even a second that I've given up on the world. I've just given up on the trash called humanity. There is no way to save them from extinction. But you just always think there's a light in the dark, don't you Anselme?!" Serverese shouted as he dashed towards the knight.

Out of thin air a black crystal blade was drawn. It slashed downwards towards Anselme with great force. Anselme was barely able to block the strike with his sword. A crater formed beneath his feat from the force behind the strike. Then over and over again Serverese slashed keeping Anselme on the defensive. Luna was heavily invested and could feel her heart beating as the fight continued.

They sped up as even Luna's eyes had a hard time following their position. Anselme casted a spell from his hand shouting: "Flame whirlwind!" The throne room was suddenly engulfed in flames from the huge flaming tornado causing a rampage. To retaliate, Serverese threw his sword into the tornado and casted spell. "Mana void!" The entire tornado in an instant was absorbed into the sword. It sat in the ground glowing a slightly orange hue until it then vanished and appeared in Severese's hands again. The two had another stare off before charging at each other.

"Serverese!"

"Anselme!"

The cutscene finished with the two warriors clashing swords. Luna's eyes sparkled at the scene. "That was amazing!" Her excitement peaked. Without enough sleep, Luna's mind was kind of hazy. But when watching the game's starter cutscene, she felt a little more awake.

[Please choose a starter class]

It was time for Luna to obtain a class. But she knew little about MMORPGs and felt a little unsure about choosing. The list appeared before her with a multitude of options.

[Please select a starter class from the list below]

- Swordsman

- Archer

- Rogue

- Mage

- Priest

- Druid

"Hmm... which class to choose? Can't I at least see what the classes can do?" With 6 options available to her, Luna was a little lost on which to choose. Thankfully the system replied to her request and added some details to each class.

- Swordsman: A warrior of the sword. As a starter class, it sets up the foundation on which path of the sword you may take. The class is focused on fighting directly on the frontline. It has both multi and single target attacks. Difficulty ★

- Archer: A bow's best friend. As a starter class, it sets up the foundation for different hunting methods and tactics. The class is focused on patience and cunning. With both multi and single target attacks. Difficulty ★★★

- Rogue: A class best fit for a thief. As a starter class, it sets up the foundation for future assassination techniques and thieving. The class is focused around single target attacks and stealth. Difficulty ★★

- Mage: A warrior of knowledge. As a starter class, it sets up the foundation for new types of spells and incantations. The class is focused on fighting with strong spells to change the course of battle. It has multi targeting attacks with large areas of effect. Difficulty ★★★★★

- Priest: A team's salvation in battle. As a starter class, it sets up the foundation for different types of religious beliefs and support spells. The class is focused around aiding your party with healing and support spells. It has limited single target attacks and is a party's main healer. Difficulty ★★

-Druid: A lover of all things nature. As a starter class, it sets up the foundation on different types of beast and nature magics. The class is focused on aiding to each role in your party. Whether it be tanking, healing or damage, it can fulfill each role. But not to its fullest potential. It has both multi and single target attacks with healing capabilities. Difficulty ★★★★

"Whoa! Wait, there's a difficulty?!" From what Luna read on the details of each class. There is a large difference in playstyle depending on which you chose. But she had no idea each class would have a difficulty tied to it.

This was a problem for Luna. As she wanted to try each class and see which one she would enjoy the most. But now with a difficulty block, she felt a bit restricted with her options. Then a new idea came to her. 'If I try the classes in order from easiest to hardest, then I'll find a class that fits me.'

"I'll choose swordsman please!" Luna said in a polite tone. The system responded by changing her regular clothes to a set of leather armor.

The system then rang out again. This time a person appeared before her. It was a lifeless 3D model of Luna. It wore her same set of leather armor and all around it were different menus and modifiers. Luna realized that this was a character creator. It used her real body as a base and could be changed based on the original.

Luna messed around with a couple of the modifiers for 15 minutes before deciding to reset them back to default. "I guess it doesn't really feel right if I don't look like me" Luna wasn't really too interested in her looks. She considered herself to be quite average. So making small adjustments was fine for her. Like removing the bags under her eyes and adding a pair of glasses. Normally she wore them at her home, but because Luna was going to sleep, she took them off. Although she didn't like wearing them in public. It didn't feel quite right to play a game and not wear them.

[Are you satisfied with these changes?]

"Yes" Her character then mimicked the looks of the 3D model. At last her menu browsing was over and it was time to play the game... or not. One last window appeared before her with what looked to be a status screen.

[Please distribute your stat points]

She could choose from 𝐒𝐓𝐑, 𝐀𝐆𝐈, 𝐈𝐍𝐓, 𝐒𝐓𝐌, or 𝐖𝐈𝐒. IT wasn't hard to figure out what the abbreviations meant. But with only ten points to choose from, Luna decided to put what she thought would be good for her current class. 3 for 𝐒𝐓𝐑, 3 for 𝐀𝐆𝐈, 1 for 𝐈𝐍𝐓, 2 for 𝐒𝐓𝐌, and 1 for 𝐖𝐈𝐒. Even without much MMO knowledge, it wasn't hard to figure out what stats a swordsman would need. 'I mean, why would you need wisdom for a guy who wields a sword?'

[Now receiving Chrysalis]

"Huh? What's a Chrysalis?" It sounded strange. The first thing that came to mind was a caterpillar and butterfly. Would she receive some kind of transformation and evolve? It sounded weird to her. A warm feeling came over her body. Luna decided to spend time researching some of the things in this game. But without any information on it, she left the thought of it behind her.

With everything out finally completed. Luna's adventure finally begins. A grin formed on Luna as she gripped her hands. A bright light glowed in front of her and enveloped the entire space. The world of Silver Skies appeared before her. It was a colossal world with multiple ecosystems covering large areas of land. Looking forwards, she readied herself for what was to come.

[Please choose a starter location]

"...." It was a little disappointing, but she had to start somewhere. She got to see names of many places all around the world. Without any real thought behind it, Luna chose the city Cerverstein. It sounded quite fantasy like. But there was no real reason for her choosing it. Other than for maybe it's name.

[Transferring user to the city Cerverstein]

Now it was time for her real adventure to start.
