It is a few hours later when she wakes up, weak, but awake. Eyes open, gazing at me through the natural lighting of the bedroom. She hasn’t spoken, but that’s okay. She’s here, and she’s awake, and she’s okay, and that’s all that matters.
“You… you scared me, you know?” I say, squeezing her hand. “What you did was dangerous, and I don’t know if I can ever forgive you. I haven’t known you for long, Iris, but fate is fate, and I care about you, a lot. Like a lot a lot.” I chuckle, and in return, she gives me a smile, her sweet smile. “Just, um, don’t ever do that again, okay? I’m serious.”
Iris opens her mouth, but I shake my head. “It’s okay. You need to rest, gain all that energy back. And don’t worry. I won’t leave your side.”
