CHAPTER 28:
Lyra's POV:
My entire body began to tremble.
"h-how did they find us?" Nadia mounted her horse as the rest of us did.
"I don't know but we won't let them catch us...Hyah!" this was bad, really bad.
I don't think we had done anything wrong plus I don't remember when we came across vampire soldiers.
We had no other choice but to run through the thick forest.
With any luck, we could evade them.
They were gaining on us with such speed it almost made me nervous.
We were lucky to enter into the thick woods a few seconds before they caught up.
"what're we going to do?" Sam panicked as well as everyone else.
If we wanted to escape, we shouldn't lose our heads because if we're caught we would lose our heads.
"what do we do?" I basically begged the hooded lady in my head.
"the only option you have is to split up. If you're clustered, it'll make them easier...scatter"
"EVERYONE; SPLIT UP!" I yelled, moving from the middle and went towards my right.
Sam who was by my right went to my left and that was all I could see the thick trees clouded my vision.
It would be nearly impossible for me to escape...deep down, I prayed for a miracle to happen.
"take a left" the hooded lady said suddenly and I obliged.
The trees were becoming thicker and thicker and even more difficult to navigate through.
"what should I do now?" I basically begged.
"just keep going; help will come" her voice slowly faded away and something told me she wasn't there anymore.
I wanted to call out her name but realized she didn't tell me so I couldn't do anything.
The feeling of pure loneliness washed through me.
She was the one who said we should split up and yet she wasn't anywhere.
She made me leave my friends and I felt like I would never see them again.
"I've gotcha now!" the rider beside me reached out for me.
I was expecting his hand to grab me at any second but I heard a thud instead.
Someone had shot him with an arrow.
I was suddenly surrounded by people who had cloaks that covered their eyes and a cloth covering their mouths.
"who are you and what do you want?" one of them jumped from the trees and pointed the arrow towards me.
The masked person ordered me to get down from my horse and put my hands up and I obeyed without hesitations.
"p-please have mercy; I'm trying to escape vampires and we don't know where to go"
"I don't believe you" the masked person was ready to fire.
"I'm not lying; I was asked to get to the Lost City of Noie"
The person heisted for a quick second that I almost missed it.
"how many of you are there?"
"we're four-"
And my ears were met with a loud scream that scared all the birds...
Sam's POV:
"for a boy, you act like a girl" the rider remarked.
I've tried shaking him off in every way I knew how but he would always come back.
I couldn't go back to that castle!
Not now!
"just a little closer and I've got you" he was almost beside me before he suddenly got kicked off of his horse and shot with an arrow.
Everything happened so fast I barely saw who did it.
The person was wearing a cloak that covered most of their features.
I was so distracted that I got knocked down too.
"who are you? What do you want? What brought you here?" I was questioned with arrow to my throat.
"m-my name is Sam and me and my friends are seeking refuge. We're running away from vampires. Please help us"
"that's not our problem neither is it convincing" the mysterious person moved closer.
"please help us; we're looking for some lost city-"
"how can you look for something that's lost?" they took another step forward.
"how do I know you're not some vampire spy? Why don't you remove your coverings and let me see your face?"
The person chuckled before placing a hand on their head and taking off their cloak and mask.
I was shocked to see it was a girl but that wasn't the shocking part. She had no pupils and looked completely blind.
It seemed impossible that someone blind could take down a vampire and me at the same time.
Could she even see where I'm standing?
"how many of you are there?" she growled.
"me and my friends, we're four-"
And my ears were met with a loud scream that scared all the birds...
