When Whitney went home that night, the first thing she did was go to the Smart cooperation website. As expected, there was an opening for the position of secretary.
There was no mention of where this secretary would be needed, but Whitney was convinced that the workers should have a piece of inside information. There was no specification required, so Whitney sent an application.
There was no work experience the only thing added was her high school certificate and her admission letter into the university. Whitney pouted her lips; she felt that no matter what she did, she might not be called for an interview.
"What are you doing?" Gracey asked when she saw her sister was focused on the old laptop.
"Sending an application," Whitney said, not hiding the truth. She did not turn to look at her sister, so she did not notice the frown on her face.
"Would the job pay you ten million a month?" Gracey asked. She felt that her sister was giving her false hope.
"What nonsense are you saying? Even as a graduate, is it easy to get a job that pays one million a month?" Whitney questioned. She was looking around the site to see if there was another opening for a part-time job.
Everyone knew that Smart cooperation payment package was the best in the entire country. Even a cleaner can live well.
"So if it would not pay a million a month, why bother? Did you not say you would deal with the situation with The Devil? Are you making a fool of me?" Gracey asked. She was angry. After what she encountered that night, she had wanted to kill herself, but after she was rescued, she had the heart to live.
Moreover, it was like Natalie said, if the devil did not want her dead, her many suicide attempt might only end up hurting her body, and in the end, she would suffer a fate worst than death.
Whitney frowned her brows when she heard that. She understood that her sister was scared, but she was angry when she thought about it.
The money borrowed was used to take care of her health. The entire family is partly in such a situation because of the money. Whitney belived that the reason for the betrayal should be related to the money as well.
"How long did I ask you to give me?" Whitney swallowed her dissatisfaction and asked. She felt that Gracey was still having suicidal thoughts, and it would not do them any good if she triggered her.
"One month," Gracey answered.
"How long has it been?" Whitney asked again.
Gracey paused and counted, "six days", she replied. She knew deep down that she had no right to push Whitney into the burning fire, but it was typical for humans to be selfish. She was scared that something similar might happen to her again.
The only thing that could ensure her safety was if Whitney surrendered herself. So what was she waiting for? If this would happen sooner or later, why not sooner? This way, she would live without fear of the shadows.
She bit on her lips and went over the sleep. She was scared that if she pushed too much, Whitney would no longer be willing. In her heart, she felt that since she already experiences kidnap and rap, she had also suffered and was not left unharmed. Anyway, it was Whitney who promised her, so she did not feel guilty.
Whitney pursed her lips. She did not want to continue the conversation. She picked up her phone and noticed that she had received a WhatsApp message from Jonathan. He must have taken her number from the class group.
Whitney opened the messages; Johnathan had mentioned that he had taken the number from the group. He also sent a picture of the classes for the week.
There were a few documents, and when she downloaded them, she noticed that there were notes from the previous classes she had missed. There was also two assignment that was due the next day.
Whitney bites her finger and thinks about her situation. After thinking for a long time, she opened the document page and started ro do her assignment.
When Gracey noticed her action, she rolled her eyes. She did not doubt that her sister was writing her assignments. "What is the need for all this?" her anger burned in her chest, but she pressed her lips together.
There were still three weeks, perhaps her sister was trying to enjoy her freedom before she surrendered to the devil. If she kept reminding her of the future, she feared that her sister would indeed change her mind.
Whitney had no idea what her sister was thinking. She tried her best to concentrate on writing her assignments. It was already one pm by the time she finished.
She forwarded it to Johnathan and asked him to help print and submit it. She was not sure she would make it to the first class of the day. She wanted to go to Smart cooperation first thing in the morning for a chance to meet Kevin Smart.
After making arrangements, she set the alarm to wake up be five before going to lie down.
When the alarm rang a few hours later, Whitney wanted to ignore it and continue sleeping. She was scared of meeting Kevin Smart, but when she heard her sister crying in her sleep, she could not bare it, so she got up.
She had promised her mother to take care of Gracey and Kelly. At that time, her mother said that she did not know if her father would love her after her death, so Whitney must remember to be sensible and take care of her siblings.
Whitney sighed and got up to take her bath. She thought it was fortunate that her father never brought any woman home after six years. He took care of Kelly and Gracey, but who knew death would take him away too and leave such a massive problem on her shoulders?
After taking her bath, Whitney dressed quickly to catch up with the first bus going to the city centre, where the Smith coopration headquarters was located.
When she arrived, it was a few minutes to seven. She still had to walk a distance of fifteen minutes before she got to the tall building. Whitney took a deep breath, at that time, she saw a roll of four cars coming towards her. She did not know about cars, but she could tell that each of those cars was worth a few million. As the vehicles got closer, she could feel her heartbeat increase. She did not doubt that one of those Cars had the devil inside. Her legs felt a little weak, and she wanted to run and hide, but for some reason, she felt like statue and could not move.
"I am doomed," Whitney thought.
