The Devil's Embrace

Madeline Rose had only ever worked in her father's local blacksmith shop and occasionally helped her mother at the farm. Her skin had become tanned from the hot sun, but despite all of this, she did not complain. Even though she didn't come from a wealthy home, she was content. However, her life turned upside down when she stumbled upon a darkness that refused to leave her alone. There was him, a man cloaked in mystery and malice, a presence that sent chills down her spine. His eyes, shrouded in shadows, held a depth of darkness that seemed to swallow the light around him. When their paths crossed, Madeline felt a cold dread wash over her, as if she had invited a malevolent force into her world.

Upset

Madeline muttered to herself as she took long strides out of his study, "What does he think he is, how dare he embarrass me like that." When the door closed behind her, she halted and let out a scoff, "The nerve of him."

But the tears did not stop falling. She found her legs wobbling and her back hitting against the door. Her whole body began shaking. She shouldn't be crying. She was not one to cry, dammit. She was a blacksmith; her heart was supposed to be made of steel. So why was she feeling weak in the knees because he did not regard her?

Did he not see her when she had taken off her robe? But isn't this the duty he talked about yesterday? Aren't they meant to perform these duties?

Madeline shook her head. She had just embarrassed herself by approaching her husband, who did not regard her one bit. Never again. In fact, she would prefer if they remained in separate rooms.
