Chapter 28

“I’ll wager Lady Flora had never had a handsome young man listen to her for so long before in her life,” Cordelia commented. “If Dearborne isn’t careful, he may find himself engaged.”

“To Lady Flora Colchester?” Julien frowned. “Perhaps I shouldn’t have brought you any more champagne.”

“Don’t be impertinent. She’s not completely on the shelf, after all.”

Julien found it annoying enough that all the mamas in the ton had been trying to marry off Dearborne; for his aunt to try her hand at matchmaking as well was too much to be borne. “Bit too old for him, isn’t she?”

“She can’t be more than twenty-eight. That’s not somuch older than he is, especially when they share interests in all these old legends and such.”

Julien ignored the fact that the woman he considered “too old” for Dearborne was younger than himself. “He also shares those interests with Lady Grenville. Perhaps you think he should ask her to make a run to Gretna Green.” Lady Grenville was well into her seventies.
