Primordials

Carving the ground into a nest-like bed where his legs and back had better support for the night was a helpful way to explore the minute changes he could make to his shadow claws.

He quickly learned that he didnt have to make claws and could make his hands into small blades by surrounding them with sharpened shadow aura. By allowing the fire to burn through the ground where he dug he also removed the debris so he didnt have anything he needed to scoop out but this required him to focus to not let the fire go out of control.

Soon he had a comfortable place to sleep and he lay himself down.

"Your ability is cool! You have an affinity for fire? Why is it black though? *gasp* YOU CAN CONTROL IT ON YOUR HANDS?!"

Jumping in shock james turned to the voice and was shocked to see that it was actually a girl... who was rambling on and on about fire.

The girl was surprisingly short, if he had been standing she would have only reached to his lower chest and if not for the academy badge she wore he would have worried that some child got stuck here somehow. Her ears had the pointed tips of the fairer races and her form was very humanoid like a lot of the fairer races as well but that was where the similarities ended.

She had four serpentine eyes, a pair of slitted nostrils and no visible mouth.

Her skin was green with a texture like scales and her cheekbones looked sharp as if she had a mask on, from biology classws he knew that this race also had these ridges along their body in places that had once been fully armored.

"Um hello there, im james... you're a domah right?" James was a bit wary after being caught off guard by the girl but he knew from social classes that the domah were at least to curious to try and attack someone.

"Yeah! My name is Nalee, its wonderful to meet you human james!"

Her smile was infectious but he had a task to get back to, that task being his quest reward.

Opening the book on the system interface he began to read.

The elements are ours to command, only the progenitors may direct our paths. - Ember, primordial queen of fire.

The knowledge of the primordials begins with the knowledge of the elemental.

Elementals are beings born from their respective elements or who became so attuned to their respective element that they became an elemental of their race. An example of one such being would be a human who has achieved perfect affinity with metal, they would have the opportunity to upgrade their race with an elemental subrace.

The metal elemental human- a human who has achieved perfect affinity with the metal element that is on par with an elemental born from the metal element.

An elemental subrace only adds the being to the elemental family but becoming part of this family does mean the being is practically immune to the effects of that element.

Above the elemental subrace is the elemental, a pure blooded being of the elemental race who has always had perfect control and affinity with their element but they grow stronger by their mastery of it.

Elementals have a path of evolution that ranges from the immaterial wraith made of element particles surrounding a core, to the beast form that carries multiple weaker cores but holds a stronger body. Some elementals have achieved humanoid forms ranging in shape and even capable of being mistaken for other races.

Primordials are firstborn elementals that paved the way for their descendants. Many elementals follow the same evolutionary path as their primordial but with different levels of variety.

Primordials are a god-like existence that can manipulate their respective elements with such mastery that very few can hope to best them with it, generally speaking if one chose to fight a primordial with the element of that primordial they would not even have the opportunity to learn the opponent was completely immune to the effects of their own elements.

Very few beings are capable of even harming a primordial but the gods are one of them.

The primordials do not reign supreme in the cosmos though, even they must bow to something above; the origins.

The origins are the primordials who birthed all other primordials, the progenitors and the first of the elements to be born. Some say that they are the living embodiment of thrir respective elements and are fully capable of removing a beings affinity with their element.

If the legends are true then the origins are the source of all elemental affinity in the universe so they are perfectly capable of removing this gift.

Finally there are four beings who stand above even the origins; as the Olympians have their parents the titans and the titans are birthed from the sky and the earth so too do the origins have their own progenitors.

Aether- the mother of light, wind and life

Void- the mother of darkness, death and space

Plasma- the mother of fire, lightning and time

Gaia- the mother of earth, plant and water

Each of these matriarchs of the elements bear their own element that if one were to gain mastery over every branch if the family tree, they would be able to gain affinity with the element of the matriarch.
