Concert Tickets

It is a sunny and dry winter morning in mid February, when Eun is walking towards a booth in the mall, he sees his highschool classmate, Yun-Oh Jang. Yun-Oh is a pretty young girl who has always captured the hearts of many with her pleasant attitude towards her studies and her other out of school activities. Eun passes by her as he looks into the booth. "What is going on?" he whispers. "It is a ticket booth for a BTS performance in Busan," Yun-Oh replies. "Oh, hi," Eun says as he brushes his hair backwards with his right hand. He slightly blushes as he does not expect to see Yun-Oh. "We're from the same highschool, right?" she asks. Eun answered, "Yes, I was the one who helped you last week when you dropped your books in the corridor." They both smile, and Yun-Oh asks if he wants to see BTS or if he has already seen the group in person. He shakes his head, and says that he would want to see them as well. "I am going to the event with my friends, if you can come too, we can keep company." "It's going to happen in June, right?" Eun replies. Yun-Oh agrees, and says "We need to save up some money, it's going to be a bit expensive to be on the front row." Eun smiles, "I'm sure it will be worth it," he assures her. Yun-Oh smiles, and another girl comes into the scene. "Yun-Oh, let's go. We need to get lunch," Min says. Eun and Yun-Oh bid goodbye to each other and Eun continued to walk past the booth. He finally decides to go home, since it is nearing noon. As he walks in the streets of the busy city of Incheon, a car stops in front of him, "Hey son," his father is driving his new car, with Mari on the passenger seat beside him. Eun stops and waves at them, and Jae continues, "Where are you going? I might as well give you a ride." He shakes his head, and does not want to speak. Mari says, "If you're headed home, we'll take you then." Eun refuses, "No, I'm good. I can walk home. It's only a few blocks away." Mari insists, she tells Eun that his father has been longing to spend time with him and today is a very good opportunity. He finally decides to get in the car, where they asked him about his plans of going to college. "I have taken some exams to get into a university. I have sent application forms too. I just need to know more about the enrollment details before I can finally enroll. Jae smiles and looks at him through the rear view, acknowledging the efforts Eun has been making to land a good school. Jae asks him about the courses that he would probably take, and Eun replies that he is not certain yet, but he has a few options. He wants to use the entire vacation month to be able to decide, after all, his mother is never in a rush to decide. Mari interrupts, "Well, Eun to tell you frankly, a month is not too long to be making a decision. If you haven't made up your mind yet, I have a friend who can help you. He works as an executive director in one of the most prestigious schools." She further discusses how her friend could possibly help Eun with his enrollment and with a scholarship. He brushes her off. "It's okay. Mama can send me to whichever school I choose," he says and crosses his arms. Jae and Mari glance at each other, and Mari looks out her window, rolling her eyes in frustration. She wants to have a good relationship with her fiancé's son so they may have a good marriage, but it does not seem to be easy at all. After a few minutes of awkwardness, Mari tries to start another conversation. "Should we have lunch? I'm really hungry," she says and touches Jae's arm. "That would be a great idea," Jae replies. "You can drop me off here, Mama is waiting for me." Jae offers him to have lunch with them but Eun insists that he eats with his mother. "It's already late noom Eun, don't you think your mother will worry that you haven't eaten yet?" Mari asks him with an eyebrow raised. Eun explains that he knows that his mother will be waiting for him. "Honey," she touches Jae's arm once again, and as he quickly glances at her, she asks, "I wonder if you could tell his mama that we are inviting him to lunch." "I will, then," he replies with a smile. Eun can see that the two can't seem to get enough of each other. His father looks at his godmother, the way he used to look at his mom. "He seems to be really happy," he says to himself in silence. Eun has not seen his father this happy since the divorce, and the scene has made him smile a bit.

They get to a nearby restaurant, he gets out of the car on his own, and his father opens the door for Mari. Mari holds his papa's hand as they walk, and she glances at him upon realizing that he is being left behind. "Come," she happily tells him. He walks toward them, and they all enter the beautiful American style restaurant. A new waitress takes their orders, and Jae tells her, "Hi, we'll have the usual please, and my son gets a.." The lady cuts him off, "I am sorry sir, I'm new here. May I ask what you want for you and your wife?" He gives her the orders, and Eun looks at the couple with undeniable awkwardness. He suddenly felt uncomfortable, as the people might think that they are a family. The lady returns in a few minutes, and in the middle of the meal, a manager walks by." Would you want a family photo?" Jae answers, "Sure," he smiles and hands him over his mobile phone. Eun forces a smile, which is quite obvious in the photos. "Eun, you look constipated," Mari jokingly says, his father finds it funny, as he almost laughed his heart out. "Let's take another one, please," she tells the manager. When they were done, they continued with lunch as Jae has confirmed that he has already told Coree that he wants to have lunch with Eun. Eun felt uneasy the whole time, but the awkwardness disappeared when she started discussing something that Eun finds interesting. "By the way, Eun. What were you doing in the mall earlier?" she stops to drink her glass of wine. "Well, I was looking for a few materials for an art project. I am planning to help Mama with her work." Mari nods her head, "Uhm, that's good. I thought you were one of the teenagers waiting for the BTS concert announcement," Eun puts down his fork and leans toward the two on the other side of the table. "What do you know about it?" Mari and Jae look at each other, then Jae explains to Eun that Mari and he are being invited to the concert as Mari's father owns the company which is sponsoring the travel of the music icons. Eun's eyes broadened, and said that he plans on saving money to be able to see the event because he does not want to ask his mother for the money. Mari says, "If that is the case, I can give you these passes, VIP." She opens her purse and takes two tickets from it. "Here, take a girl that you like." His heart is jumping with excitement, "Are these for free?" She nods, and holds Jae's hand who is smiling. "This is insane!" Mari laughed loudly, "It seems you will enjoy it as much as we'll do." Mari and Jae are coming to watch the concert, and Eun will have to decide when to tell Yun-Oh that he has got some tickets. "What are you waiting for?" Jae asked his son. "Go ahead and ask the girl that you want to watch it with." Eun looks at the two, "I'll tell her that I already have concert tickets and will not have to save up for months," he smiles and takes out his mobile phone to call her.
