A Second Attempt

Exactly 24 hours after Sharon's ritual, Ember twisted in her position. The instance she flipped her eyes open, her gaze fell on the enormous orange sun as it set to descend into the earth.

She was in the Duke's breakfast room, still lying on the sofa, the exact position she had been in before Sharon started the ritual.

Hence, her muscles ached in protest once she put them to work.

The breakfast room was an empty, creeping silence. She struggled to get off the sofa, dragging her feet all the way down the hall.

When she heard a noisy scrambling at the end of the hall, she paused and began walking towards the noise.

It was an enormous room, books shattered around and the Duke sitting right in the center of the books.

His gaze flew anxiously around a book, flipping through the pages violently.

Ember let herself in, kicking past the scattered books.

"I think you should rest. I'd ask the maid to run a bath for you."
