The hair on my skin rose and I shuddered under his touch. I immediately drew my hand back. "It looks good on you .... Katherine." He complimented and his enchanting gaze seemed to bewitch me. "Thankyou" I said, without even giving it a second thought. Immediately I wanted to take that 'thankyou' back. Thank you? Of all the things I could have said, "thankyou" was the worst. I didn't want Lucas thinking that I liked his compliment. It didn't take much thinking to realize that he was trouble, and I had enough trouble looming, no need to invite more. "And I prefer Kat." I corrected, realizing that he had called me Katherine earlier. "Why not Katherine?" His gaze looked appraising. "Cause it's boring." I answered and turned towards the chalkboard. "I think it's beautiful." His reply caught me off guard and I turned sideways, he was still staring at me intently, with those dazzling charcoal grey eyes.] * * * * * Excerpt 2, [He shifted in his seat and his eyes met mine. "I believe there's always more to everything than it meets the eye." He was inclining towards me now. "Do you not believe in witches?"  "I don't. . ." I lied. "They only exists in folklores and myths." I added to make my lie more convincing.  I noticed his lips turn into a smile but it faded away the second he looked at me.  "Are you sure?" He raised an eyebrow. "Do things out of blue not elevate your curiousity?"  "They do." I replied. In fact, everything happening lately had my curiosity skyrocketed.  "And have you ever tried to find answers to those questions? If you do find the answers. . ." He leaned in closer. "I bet you won't be disappointed." He was unnecessarily close, his husky voice went straight into my ears.  He shifted back in his seat and put his hands behind his head. There was a smirk plastered on his lips and for some reasons I had a feeling that he had challenged me to some mysterious quest.] * * * * *

Need a ride? [43]

We walked out of the room together and were headed in the direction of the tutor room. We never said anything to each other after leaving Coach's office. He was ahead of me, his hands dug into his pocket, walking with a quick lope while I was two feet behind him.

All of a sudden, I noticed him walking in the wrong direction, so I called out. "That's not the way to the tutor room." I cried, loud enough for him to hear.

He stopped in his tracks and tilted his head back slightly enough to not meet my eyes. "I am aware. I'm not headed in the direction." He replied and continued on his way.

"Then where are you headed to? Did you not listen the Coach? I am supposed to be tutoring you." I yelled.

This time he stopped and turned. He pushed his black hairs back with a hand and tilted his head sideways. He looked like a model doing that. "Well I'm busy tonight. So I can't give my time to you. Moreover, I prefer private lessons." His perfect face held a smug look.

"Did you not hear Coach? He made it pretty clear that he was serious about this." I reminded him, even though I knew he doesn't care about he said.

"I did hear him pretty well. But I can't postpone the thing. So find an excuse for today. Tell him something came up with you." I noticed a slight impoliteness in his tone. He never talked to me like that. Even when he was spouting nonsense, he was just being playful. But right now, it sounded like he was pissed.

"Are you doing this because I denied tutoring the first time?" The words just came out on their own.

"What?" He was confused. "No. I really have something important tonight." His face immediately lightened into one of those soft rare smiles. But in a flicker of moment, his smirk was back again. "Besides, why would I ever give up any chance to spend time with you!"

I rolled my eyes. "Whatever!" I mumbled and he smiled.

"Goodbye Katherine. I'll see you tomorrow partner." He said before finally turning and leaving. I watched his figure disappear as he walked down the stairs.

School was over and almost everyone was out. I took out my cellphone to check if Cee had replied back. There was a notification. It was a text from Cee.

[I'm okay now. I feel like taking a nap.] Her text read. It was an hour ago. She must be sleeping right now. I thought to myself and put the cellphone back in my pocket.

I walked out of the main gate of the school and towards the parking lot. People were either leaning on the hoods of their cars and talking while some of them were already leaving. I strolled to the spot where Cee have parked today in a daze. When I found the spot empty I realized Cee had already left earlier today leaving me with no ride today. I sighed and tilted my head back, looking up at the sky. It wasn't raining now but the sky was still dark. A thick layer of clouds pressed heavily on the atmosphere now like a grey blanket. From the looks of it, the clouds were going to pour again, maybe more heavily this time. I closed my eyes and lowered my head looking at a small grey puddle ahead of me. I had a nice warm jacket and the rain was still minutes away from happening. If I start my foot journey now, I might make it to home before it starts to rain again.

I turned and scurried out the parking lot, walking past the entrance of school, I was finally on the sidewalk of the street. I felt if I could make it earlier, I could go visit Cee and maybe even Finn. I had to inform him what had happened at school today. Suddenly I realized I was out of school and away from everyone. There was no one on the street. It was safe to contact Finn now. I spun around and scanned the whole area, there was no pedestrian, not even a single vehicle. I took my phone and began typing the text.

[Finn, something strange happened at school today. Demons threatened me. Can I come over to your place? Text me as soon as possible.] I typed and pressed the send button.

As soon as the message was sent, I heard tires squeal and a familiar shiny black porsche stopped in front of me. It was so sudden that it almost startled me and I jumped back. The engine of the car was still running and the window glass rolled down. It was Lucas.

"Need a ride?" He asked with one eyebrow raised.

"How are you still here? Don't you have something important tonight?" I mocked only to receive a grin from him.

"It can wait. Besides I was waiting for you in the parking lot since you don't have a ride today. Get inside, I'll drop you at your home." He offered.

"Thanks, but I think I'll walk." I denied. He was being genuine but I couldn't risk it. One time he is soft, the other times he's roguish. I can never trust him. As I turned to walk he yelled.

"Come on Katherine. It's gonna rain any minute now." He pressed.

I continued walking and looked up at the sky. It was true the weather was a bit unfavorable, but I was sure I can make it before it rains. "No it won't." I replied curtly and walked faster. He was driving slowly and next to me.

"Are you sure about that?" I heard him say and the next second I felt a rain drop splotch against my cheek.

What the hell? I thought to myself. It didn't look like it would rain so soon. And then the droplets started falling, getting bigger by every passing second.

"Do you still prefer walking?" He smirked and his eyes gave a mysterious glint. I hated the fact that fate was in his favor. In some part of my mind, I thought whether he made it happen. It rained the second after he asked. It was eerie. The shiver I felt next wasn't due to the cold rain.

"My offer is still on." He repeated.

I had no other choice now. Either I could take shelter under some building or I could take his offer. Unwillingly, with a heavy heart I reached around the other side of the car and hopped inside.
