Chapter 24

BushThorn was at the front of the herd of angry dragons, she was leading Wrath to the valley. Her flying is a bit off as one of her wings was ripped out of her socket. "How much further?!" Wrath asked but he had to shout due to all the wind.

"Just over that cliff!" BushThorn called back.

They flew over the clif and they saw Petle cornering Scorch on a ledge that is clearly about to fall. BushThorn didn't want to waste any time and pounced on Petles back, making her fall on her side. "Why you little, punny brat! you should of left and say away from the mountain!" Petle screeched and BushThorns stomach sank. 'Scorch what did you do to send her into a rage?' BushThorn thought remembering what happened to the last dragon that sent her into a rage. It was one of the gards and they dare challenge her position, that gard lost there head that day.

"I should of never had you!" Petle snarled and slashed her throat.

"You wouldn't be Queen if not for me!" BushThorn snarled back and locked her jaw into Petles wing, were the joint is located.

"Oh BushThorn, you may act like you're not like me but you're repeating how I became queen!" Petle hissed with pleasure and she bit down onto BushThorns back. 'Where is everyone?' BushThorn thought as she knew that most dragons would be clawing into her by now.

BushThorn let go of her grip and smacked Petles snout and quickly turned to see that thousands more gards were attacking her friends. "You know when your father suggested a spy I didn't like the thought but now I see the use of one" BushThorn turned around to see Petle do her phycotic grin with blood dripping down her chin. "You can deny your thoughts on a battle as much as you can but in the end, you crave the tast of blood!" Petle then pounced and pinned BushThorn to the ground, making wiggling impossible.

"You couldn't beat me back when I killed Needle so what makes you think you can beat me now?" Petle hissed and she slowly applied wight on her front claws that pushed onto her neck. "Raa!" BushThorn called out in pain.

"You should of left when you had the chance" Petles eyes glowed as she grind. BushThorn stopped struggling, she stopped clawing Petles chest and she relaxed her body, BushThorn is too weak to fight Petle. BushThorn weezed her last few breaths, "it's such a shame that you gave up at the last second, something you always do" Petle mocked her as she slipped into the void.

"Daughter" Lakarr rushed to her side and helped her up.

"Thank you" BushThorn grabbed hold of her neck, it felt tight and soo, soo sore.

"I was watching the hole fight, I gave you a pain relief spell for your wing" Lakarrs voice sounded worried and pure terror. "I'm sorry I can't join the fight myself" he apologised.

"Don't, it's not your fault" BushThorn dismissed his guilt. "What I need right now is your opinion".

"On what?" Lakarr asked not letting her go from his hug.

"We need a new Queen and I'm thinking QuiverWing" BushThorn looked into his light brown eyes.

"But she's immortal, it wouldn't be the best" Lakarr shook his head.

"There is retirement" BushThorn mentioned.

"True, she has shown great promise in leadership" Lakarr went into thought, "yes she is a good dragon for the thrown" he nodded.

"How long would you say I would be able to come back?" BushThorn asked thinking the worst if what could happen.

"Like I said before, the void will chose a random time" Lakarr replied.

"Can I see what's happening" BushThorn heard her own worry.

"Yes" Lakarr pulled out the lens from under his wing and gave it to her.

BushThorn took it carefully and held so that Lakarr can see to, "QuiverWing" BushThorn said after taking a deep breath. QuiverWing was fighting Petle and her horn was slashed and oozing out blood, Petle had a deep slash on her chest from where BushThorn clawed at her. Both dragon were locked in a fight and both refused to back down. BushThorn whatched with full concentration and she didn't realise she was hissing the hole time. "Umm you need me to take that?... so you don't umm brake it" Lakarr had his front claws stretch out asking to take it back

"Oh... yeah sure" BushThorn can see that she had a problem.

"You should work on that" Lakarr suggested.

"I know, I need to get back, void hurry up!" BushThorn yelled out to the empty darkness.

"You should sit down, relax and take a deep breath" Lakarrs voice had a hint of worry, he then opend his wing put so he can hug her. BushThorn felt her heart ache as the last time she saw a dragon call out a hug for her was with her father back when she was 1 and a half years old.

"Umm you alright?" Lakarr asked tilting his head.

"Yes just that it has been a long time since I had a father that is worth calling my father" she cried and hugged into Lakarr as he is her father now.

"You're not ready for battle yet" he declared, "the void can sence that and you should calm yourself and stay here for a while".

"I don't think I'll ever be ready" BushThorn snift and Lakarr wiped her tears.

"What makes you say that?" Lakarr asked nuzzling his nose on the top of her head.

"I'm not a fighter, why did I even try to attack her and how come I can't fight" BushThorn flicked her tail thinking, 'Petle is naturally strong and Poisonroot has been a fighter for his hole life'.

"You don't know your blood don't you?" Lakarr almost mumbled.

"No the most of my kin is Petle, Poisonroot, Cob, Chestnut and his mate Hazle and all except Cob are fighters" BushThorn shook her head.

"Oh your blood goes deeper then that" Lakarr had a smile of amusement.
