The Broken Sword

The worthless swordsman or the broken sword. that was what people called me. my name long since forgotten by everyone but me. despite the fact that I was one of the best swordsman that could be bought. no these unusual nicknames came from the fact that I never had so much as a copper on me. my equipment was all old and worn. some of it being repair. the most valuable thing I owned was my horse. the reason behind my poverty was simple. I never took coin as payment. only rations, repair, room and board. there was a reason I never took coin as payment, but that was my secret. a secret I never intended to let anyone find.

The woman

She walked her horse up to me calmly, and stopped beside me with enough space between us that my sword wouldn't reach her if I decided to fight.

"You are a hard man to find," she raised her hand conjuring up a small fireball that floated above her hand, "I wish to hire you for your services."

"What would a mage need with a swordsman like me?" I felt my hand go down to my sword.

"I need a skilled swordsman to train the kings soldiers properly," she left the fireball floating there as she reached into her saddlebag, and pulled out a large coin purse.

I pulled my horse away from her in a quick sidestep maneuver. This quick motion drew her attention to me once again.

"As you can see I have plenty of coin to pay you with," she smiled reassuringly seeing the tension that ran through the man before her, "And you are the best sell sword in the land. In several lands actually. Capable of doing high level jobs with the worst equipment imaginable."

"I'm not interested," I had my hand on the hilt of my blade now.

"I'm sorry," she stared at him with confusion, "I haven't told you all we have to offer just yet."

"I said I'm not interested," I started to urge my horse forward.

"I don't understand," she called after me as she started to follow, "You were just begging for food at the bar. With this many coins you'd be able to live like a noble."

"I tried that once," I stopped my horse cutting off her path, "It didn't end well." I showed my steel a little, "Now I'm going to leave, and you'll have to make a choice. I don't care what it is you choose, but if you follow me. I will try to kill you."

I'll be trying to get one update out daily.
