Two months passed already since Toneri Otsutsuki found and clashed with that fairly strong human from the Hyuga clan who managed to awaken the legendary Tenseigan before him. It left him quite astonished, especially after realizing that he even managed to escape from those meteors he had to summon in the end. Previously, while he was on the Moon, Toneri couldn't even imagine that there was such a powerful human down in the Ninja World. However, he felt a little better, realizing that that person also shared a similar ancestry with him and that there should be no other exceptions.
Toneri currently didn't regard anyone else as a threat to him in this world. Despite how he now learned about the user of the Gedo Statue, his organization, and his goals. Shortly after fighting with Neji, that guy summoned Gedo Statue and fed it two Tailed Beasts alongside his subordinates.
However, Toneri still didn't regard him highly, or as a threat, at all, and let him play for a while. He primarily needed to deal with that Hyuga Neji before he somehow grew even stronger than before. That person also always hid his tail well and could just summon the Gedo Statue back if he went after him. He didn't participate in the Tailed Beast extraction process himself and hid his chakra with various kinds of weird chakra transmitters. So, there was no point for Toneri to go there and try to take his clan's possession back. It would just alert him earlier of his existence and goals. It was the opposite of what he needed to do for him. He needed to devise a secret plan to take him down in one sweep. However, he didn't have time for that presently because Neji was now his only priority.
Toneri then also realized that he would need an even bigger power if he wanted to completely kill, not just defeat Neji and stop him from escaping like he did the last time. That means that he, Toneri, also needed to rely more on his own personal power, than on that Giant Tenseigan, on the Moon, which was so far away from the Earth. He needed to acquire his own personal Tenseigan as well.
That battle with Neji Hyuga also made him realize another thing. And that was that he honestly had very little actual fighting experience and knowledge of this world. That could be also said to be the crucial reason why Neji managed to escape from him despite being less powerful during that time.
That's why, during the last two months, Toneri went over the entire Ninja World on foot, stealing people's memories, and learning about various things, techniques, and concepts. That's why, for example, he now knew what was that strange energy that turned part of his Tenseigan mode into stone was called, he now knew what that strange ability the woman beside Neji used on him was called. Who was Neji Hyuga in the first place, he learned about his backstory, and about the Hyuga clan's situation today. Those Five Great Ninja Villages, he now visited them all and pried on their secrets. He needed to know everything in addition to his own Tenseigan if he wanted to kill Neji.
"The first part of my plan is now finished. And as for the second part of it...", Toneri expressionlessly levitated high in the sky. He was currently above a very large and structurally developed village by the Ninja World standards. It was the Konohagakure swallowed by the darkness of the night, 'Tenseigan, you are mine!', It was not his first time here, Toneri even knew who would he steal eyes from, 'Hanabi Hyuga...', And Toneri finally made his move. He didn't care about their sensing barrier.
Soon, he slowly descended in front of one Hyuga clan member a little further than the Hyuga clan compound. The man yelled but he couldn't move. And soon his memories were in Toneri's hand literally as he took the man's head, 'Interesting... There are a couple of stronger ants in this place...'
***
The Hyuga clan compound looked completely different than it was a few months ago. There was now a large tower in the center of it, surrounded by labyrinth-like structures in dozens of different layers with clansmen having to patrol in between day and night. Hiashi Hyuga and his daughter Hanabi lived in that middle tower while all the living Side Branch members constantly had to be on the lookout on top of and all around that tower, and they also had to patrol around labyrinth rows.
Hiashi's personality got very extreme and inhumane ever since Neji Hyuga's attack occurred. Side Branch members suddenly got punished, using that Curse Mark, in those few months way more than previously in their entire lives combined. Their Byakugans got overexerted because they had to constantly be on the lookout with only a small rest time. Some of them got blind or even died.
They were living in hell ever since then. The only ones who escaped were those who were a part of Konoha's regular forces before the attack happened. They could still live outside and be spared from Hiashi's arduous orders. Others weren't so lucky, they got locked inside the compound and nobody cared for them. Konoha now had more pressing matters on their hands than arguing over Hiashi's recent behavior. Even Tsunade couldn't do anything about it due to the village advisors.
They had previously seen Hiashi's incomprehensible strength, and with other big villages watching, they didn't dare to act against him in any way presently. They could only secretly send both Root and regular Anbu scouts there to monitor his behavior. However, Hiashi was very well aware of that, because he himself sent his Hyuga scouts all over the forest nearby the compound and even inside the village in various places, and the situation was quite tense. Hiashi couldn't believe anyone as well now, especially Danzo who should be really interested in his powers. The only thing preventing a conflict was the fear they had of each other. The village was fearful of Hiashi's personal strength, especially without Jiraiya there, while Hiashi was aware of their overwhelming numbers advantage. Even ordinary civilian villagers could feel that kind of atmosphere between them without being told.
"Not good!", On top of the Hyuga tower, Naoki Hyuga, the captain of the guards suddenly opened his eyes wide, and quickly went down the stairs ignoring other scouts that were in the same place. He first saw the invader. His Byakugan range was the farthest, and that's why he was so valued by Hiashi and escaped many harsh punishments that other side branch members experienced. He was Hiashi's most loyal dog. It was the same even before when those Main Branch members still lived.
"Lord Hiashi, it's not good, someone is flying above toward our residence!", Naoki quickly went over to Hiashi's living place which was at the bottom of the tower and in the middle of the labyrinth. Hiashi already sensed someone coming quickly so he woke up previously. Hearing that he swiftly came to the terrace and opened his Byakugan as well. After taking a look, he opened his eyes wide,
"Naoki, lead everyone and protect Hanabi at all costs. If something happens to her, you all will feel the strongest pain of your entire worthless lives. I'm dealing with it on my own!", Hiashi already got a couple of clues from the flying visitor's chakra presence. He needed to take him on outside of this place as to minimize the potential danger to Hanabi, who slept in her own room close to his own.
After experiencing that shame at the hands of Neji Hyuga, Hiashi shut himself inside the compound until he got more used to the powers of the Giant Tenseigan that weren't used for hundreds of years. And his power recently really went one level further than that time when he fought with Neji. However, he was still mad because he couldn't make any kind of moves regarding his potential revenge against Neji because he was under the constant surveillance of the Anbu and the Root. He was certain that Danzo could strike against him at any time now as he was strangely quiet recently.
"Report this to Lord Danzo immediately!", Fu, who commanded the Root members around the Hyuga clan compound, whispered to a masked individual beside him urgently. He also noticed the precarious situation. Yamato, on the other side of the compound, who commanded the ordinary Anbu, also sent a subordinate to report this to Tsunade and carefully looked at the sky where the two people met next. Both of them could strangely fly, which was one of the rarest skills in the Ninja World. For Fu Yamanaka, their chakra auras felt extremely familiar. The stillness took over the scene.
"My name is Hiashi Hyuga. I'm the current patriarch of the Hyuga clan. May I know your esteemed guest's name?", Hiashi wanted to test the waters first. He was really amazed by Toneri's otherworldly appearance and aura. He already guessed inwardly that he is from that clan on the Moon. And, if that was the case, then he still wanted to think and hope that the visitor came with good intentions.
"Toneri Otsutsuki. There was no need to introduce yourself to me, I already know everything about you and your family. I visited you once with my father while I was young.", Toneri replied unmoved but then continued with anger in his voice, "You come from the same source as me and my clan, from the same ancestor. However, what do you do? You betray the Ninshu teachings of the great Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo Otsutsuki, and first participate in the so-called Warring States era, and then you create that kind of devious curse mark...',
"You don't deserve to hold that kind of noble blood anymore. You and I have nothing in common. In fact, I despise you more than those other ants. You bore the greatest responsibility out of them all. Repent for everything now, you and your clan join me as subordinates in the quest of rebuilding this world, and I might only then let you go. We share the same goal regarding Neji Hyuga, I too want to end him as well.", Toneri finished speaking. After seeing Hiashi now and thinking carefully, while traveling around this world, he realized that he needed some helpers if he wanted to accomplish his previous plans. After all, there are ten of those ants who followed that other thief.
Hiashi suddenly furrowed his brows in the air after hearing him. He didn't like that superior tone of voice. It was almost the same as he currently used to talk to his side branch clan members. But, it wasn't entirely impossible for him to agree, especially after noticing the man's strength. And he was currently in a very precarious situation surrounded at all sides by Konoha and worrying about Neji.
However, Toneri's next words froze him in place, "But, I still have to take your younger daughter's eyes away. She has the purest Byakugan inside of your clan nowadays. It must be her and no one else.', Transplanting that kind of eyes will give him the best possible success rate for the birth of Tenseigan. There was no chance for compromise on this matter in Toneri's mind, it was imperative.
Hiashi clenched his fists in anger as soon as he heard those words. Not to mention that Hanabi was his most beloved daughter, but she was also his hope for the continuation of their Hyuga's Main Branch. He already knew why Toneri wanted to take her eyes. And she really was the most talented in recent decades besides Neji having the best eyes Toneri would want for the Tenseigan activation.
However, it was impossible for Hiashi to agree, even if the opponent was much stronger than him. He will rely on Konoha's help once again. This time he thought that even Danzo would help. After, this was still Konoha after all, and he was nominally a big clan's patriarch. And Danzo still wanted to find out his secrets for himself. Hiashi just needed to drag this on until the help arrive. Just like the last time against Neji. Preserving his life and the Main Branch in that way was the most important.
"Hiashi Hyuga, you made the wrong choice!", Toneri informed him after seeing his expression. He immediately activated his gravity control ability to pin Hiashi in place. Hiashi gritted his teeth and did the same. However, inside he knew that his Giant Tenseigan was just a poor replica of the one his opponent was using. There was an invisible collision of some sort between their gravity abilities.
The stalemate continued for around five more minutes, in various intervals because of their cooldowns, before Toneri's gravity field nearly touched Hiashi. In response, he just gritted his teeth and activated a specific command of his energy vessel. Painful shrieks were heard around the building next as the side branch members knelt down on their knees while covering their foreheads in agony. Toneri looked at this with disgust, "This won't help you, ant!", Apparently Toneri regarded Hiashi in the same way as other people on Earth now.
However, Hiashi managed to back off Toneri's gravity a little for now again. He hoped to last until some of the expected reinforcements arrive. It could be at any minute. But, Hiashi didn't manage to catch on how Toneri slightly tilted his mouth upward, 'You left your daughter defenseless now idiot...', Toneri planned for this moment from the beginning. A giant golem, made of earth, the size of the tower in front of which they fought, suddenly sprung from the ground behind Hiashi and quickly grabbed onto the room Hanabi was hidden in, then broke it and took the girl in his large palms instantly, 'Damn, Hanabi!', Hiashi suddenly enlarged both of his hands in white chakra mode and grabbed straight toward the golem's hands. However, Toneri did the same. And white and cyan-colored giant chakra mode hands suddenly clashed into the air. Toneri took the chance to overpower Hiashi with gravity, fixing him in a place, before jumping toward his golem victoriously.
"Hanabi!", Hiashi yelled in despair as Toneri stood at the palm of the giant, looking at the anxious Hanabi. The girl was white as a sheet and frightened as Toneri's scrawny hand took over her eyes, "Haha, Tenseigan, you are mine! No no one will stop me in this world!", Toneri shouted in ecstasy uncharacteristically for him. He now held Hanabi's Byakugan inside of his hand. The girl collapsed on the ground, and her whole world collapsed. She was woken in the middle of the night and her eyes suddenly got taken away crudely. She was just fine earlier but now she was completely blind.
Toneri stopped laughing all of a sudden, he sensed something else. Some Root members arrived on the scene first and launched their attacks, "You ants, don't ruin my nice mood!", Toneri blocked all of their attacks with gravity, returning them back at them, and suddenly threw Hanabi toward the wailing Hiashi at the ground who caught her in despair. Toneri looked at them in disgust, "You two are my future's wife relatives, so consider yourself lucky!", Toneri decided not to kill them for now.
Hiashi listened to his words and cursed the whole world. First, the whole Main Branch got killed by Neji, and now the last successor, and the one with good potential, got her eyes taken away by Toneri. Where did he go wrong? Why was this happening to him? Hiashi started to turn insane. The golem Toneri stood on suddenly started increasing in size exponentially, but new attacks came then.
"Poison Cloud Technique!", Torune Aburame, from the Root, who arrived on the scene secretly, put his hands together to form a small poisonous smokescreen sphere from his rinkaichu between his hands. Torune then blew the smokescreen across the area in front of him, toward Toneri, and the poisonous smokescreen got bigger as it spread. If touched or inhaled, it is a guaranteed fatality, at least if the antidote doesn't get administered in time.
Rinkaichu were a rare breed of nano-sized, venomous insects hosted by a select few members of the Aburame clan. These bugs destroy their enemies' cells, causing excruciating pain in the process. Not many people knew, but the Aburame clan, in fact, worked very close to Danzo for several generations already due to the plethora of abilities they possess, perfect for Root's operations. It could be even said that they were the closest of the large clans to Danzo currently in the village.
Despite the unassuming appearance of the incoming attack, Toneri, who learned about many things while traveling this world, still decided not to risk it coming closer to him this time. Hence, he immediately bounced it off with his gravity, redirecting it straight toward the nearby Root members who cried in agony after getting hit. Torune gritted his teeth, used an antidote on them quickly, and decided to stay out of this fight from now on due to Toneri's ability. Toneri however noticed more and more shinobi coming there. Konoha's Anbu and ordinary forces arrived, they stood with the Root members side by side, "Lord Hyuga!", Some of them instantly came and secured Hiashi and Hanabi. Both father and daughter were now hugging each other and crying, completely out of it.
The whole compound was now surrounded by Konoha's joint forces while all of the side branch members inside already passed out from Hiashi draining their chakra too much. Hinata was also among the newly arrived army of shinobi. She looked at her father and sisters feeling distressed despite how they behaved toward her for the last few years. Hanabi was young and seeing Hiashi's constant disregard toward Hinata, she also started behaving the same. She now even lived with her sensei, Kurenai, instead of in the Hyuga clan compound with them. After Neji destroyed the main branch, Hiashi turned extreme and unrecognizable so she felt unsafe there. Kakashi, Kiba, Shino, Rock Lee, and Tenten, were also among the crowd. However, Might Guy looked to be the strongest of them all and led the scene. The situation turned tense as Toneri looked toward Hinata specifically.
