On his way downtown, Jamal stopped off at a local café for some breakfast before making his way over to the office building where his job was located. Once inside, he asked for permission to enter the main lobby area so that he could use the public telephones to contact Maya over the telephone for a few minutes. He was given an okay by the receptionist working behind the counter without any objections whatsoever and hurried over towards the nearest payphone booth in the corner of the lobby area in order to place a collect call to their home. Then he dialed the number listed under Maya's contact information and waited patiently for a minute until an automated female voice spoke back at him in a computerized tone.

"You've reached the Maxwell residence..." the robotic voice announced, "Please listen carefully because I will repeat everything you say after the beep."
