She turned to look at Jake, her countenance bland and serene. In a strange voice, she murmured, "I'm sorry," even though it was the one he had been waiting so long to hear.

"Do I know you?" Laura asked in confusion.

"Jake, let me introduce you to Laura Garcia," Jeb interjected and began in a proud tone, briefly introducing the person who had gradually entered his life.
