Lucas threw up his hands, exasperated. "Why me? What are you even mixed up in?"
Sophie let out a sigh, her gaze softening for a moment. "I don't have time to explain, Lucas. They're dangerous, and I need to lay low for a minute. Just… let me hide here, okay? You won't even notice I'm here."
Before Lucas could protest, there was a loud knock on the door, followed by a voice shouting, "Sophie! We know you're in there! Come out now!"
Sophie's eyes widened, and Lucas's frustration quickly shifted to concern. Whoever was chasing her wasn't playing around.
"Fine," Lucas muttered under his breath, rubbing his temples. "But you owe me an explanation when this is over."
Sophie flashed him a relieved smile, nodding gratefully. "Deal."
