Anne hesitated for a moment before responding. "I went to Grosbeak College in Capital Q," she replied, her tone a mixture of pride and apprehension.
Laura furrowed her brow, her knife poised in the air as she contemplated the unfamiliar name. "I've never heard of that school before," she admitted, her surprise evident.
Anne's chest tightened slightly at the response. She had expected some curiosity or even polite interest, but Laura's remark seemed to carry a hint of dismissiveness.
Williams, the burly gentleman from the inventory department, chimed in, attempting to defuse the tension. "I'm sure it's one of those lesser-known schools," he said with a friendly smile directed at Anne. "No big deal."
