59. The Tower 10

Crystal sent out here energy. "That is the last of the creatures in that tower. Now the only ones left are in the manor itself."

"Okay then. Other than a few scrapes and slight burns is everyone okay to move forward? I have the feeling that we do not want to give this guy more time."

Erica spoke in just above a whisper. "Sorry about that Novum. I was trying to help."

"I am not upset Erica. You did what you should have done and destroyed the enemy. We have not really fought together in this type of situation so things like that are bound to happen. Now that I know what you are capably of in this type of fight I will be more aware of my movements."

"Thank you Novum. I will also try to adjust things so that if you decide to charge what you are aiming at will be there."

Crystal handed Novum a small potion. "I know that they are little and do not really hurt but you should probably go ahead and use this to close up those wounds. Little things now can become big things later."

Novum gave her a nod of his head and downed the small potion. He could feel warmth filling his body as the small cuts and burns healed up. Crystal handed one to Rurik as well. He had taken a few hits fighting the horde as well. Once the two of them were ready they moved to the front door.

"There are three on the other side of the door. Three just like the ones in the other tower. They will be more dangerous since Erica did not set them on fire, yet."

Novum walked up to the door. "Thank you Crystal." Novum kicked the door as hard as he could and with a crack that sounded like a tree falling the door burst open. As it swung open you could see a large board that had been snapped in half from the force of the kick. The board looked like it belonged holding up the ceiling in the mine it was so thick. Rurik shook his head in awe as he saw the size of the board. But he did not have a lot of time to think about it as one of the spawn were suddenly in front of him.

The spawn attacked his a fist and Rurik moved enough to take a glancing blow on his armor and it shoved him off balance just a little. He quickly shuffled his feet and stabilized himself and threw a quick attack. The quick counter caught the spawn off guard and the blow sent him flying back several feet. Rurik did not give him the chance to recover and followed behind him.

Novum kept moving after he kicked the door open and the spawn that was not far from the door was could not react fast enough and soon the two were toe to toe. The spawn threw a quick strike with the dagger it hand in its hand and the blow hit hard enough that they tip of the dagger pierced through the armor and into Novum's side. It was not deep but it was still annoying. The spawn was too close for Novum to use his sword so he slammed it in the chest with his shield and put some distance between them.

Crystal followed behind Novum and Rurik and when Rurik went left she went right. The spawn on her side of the place was not as close as the others. It looked a little out of it and she could see that it had been standing behind the door when Novum kicked it open. She would not let it take the time it needed to get back into the fight and charged after it with her mace ready to go. She pushed some of her divine magic into the mace and it started to glow just a little. She rained down a powerful blow aimed at the spawn's head.

The spawn saw Crystal's mace glowing and coming for it and put its arm up to try and not block just even deflect the blow from landing on its head. The creature let out a horrible scream as the blessed weapon tore through its arm like it was a small twig and then smashed directly into its face. The blow caused the spawn's head to not only explode but also to burst into flames. The thing tried to turn into gas but since its coffin had already been destroyed in the other tower the ball of gas turned into a ball of flames and after just a few seconds it was not more.

Berry had both Topaz and Erica behind her as she led them just through the door. She saw the Novum and Rurik both had things under control and saw was amazed that Crystal had hers taken care of already. She also saw the Crystal was about to move over to help Novum, who was closer, when she saw movement from the floor above them. A creature that was a lot stronger than the others was about to jump down on top of Crystal. Berry saw it and quickly cast a spell and placed a barrier between Crystal and the creature.

The vampire bounced off the barrier and hit the floor. Novum saw what happened. "Berry leave the shield up and try to put some more energy into it and try to pin the vampire to the wall."

Berry had never thought about making her shields mobile and the idea did not seem to be much of a stretch so he did as Novum recommended. She pushed he spell energy of a spell of a lower level and used it to push the spell. She was amazed at how easy the barrier moved. It move so easy and so quickly that she almost lost control over it. Just as the vampire was getting back to its feet he felt something huge slam into him. Before he could react the barrier had him pinned to the wall.

Novum used the space he got from bashing with his shield to help Berry out and then he turned back to the spawn that ran back at him. Novum timed it just right and swiped his sword at the creatures neck and took its head clean off. It rolled around for a second and just like the other it turned to gas and then to flames. He did not even turn to look at Rurik, there was no doubt in his mind how that fight would turn out.

Rurik knew that they would not need his held all he had to do was keep this spawn away from everyone else and kill it when he got the chance. He had always heard the vampires were powerful and he wanted to test his strength. After letting the creature attack him he was severely disappointed. The blows that the creatures were landing did not even shove him off balance. He knew that this was not going to be a challenge.

Rurik used the creature to test the mobility of his newer armor and found that it held up just fine and his movement was even better than he thought. His last couple of fights he had not really had to worry about his mobility even as far back as the bear. So now that he had a mobile opponent he could take the time to test it. Finally he saw the creature quit punching and come at him with its teeth. Even though he knew his armor could stop it he would not take that chance. One quick blow and the spawn quickly turned to gas then burst into flames.

Berry was still holding her magical energy against the barrier to hold the powerful creature in its place. She had burned through two of her lowest level spells to provide the energy to hold it in place. "Novum I can hold it but I am having to burn the energy for low level spells to do so. How do you want me to handle it?"

"Just hold it there for another few seconds. Crystal take a look at it and let me know what you see." Novum had already scanned the creature and he could see that it was not in very good shape. The barrier had not really done anything to it but it still looked weaker than it should have.

Crystal got a little closer with her magic energy in her mace. She looked it up and down and she saw the same thing that Novum did. Not only was this thing not a spawn but a vampire but it was way to weak. Even with the cattle here to eat the vampire was starving. This did not make any sense. She knew that vampires were intelligent and could hold conversations if they wanted to so she decided to ask it. "Why are you starving? Why did you not eat the cattle?"

The vampire hisses in anger and ignored the question still trying to fight against the barrier.

"It has not been allowed to feed. The thing that is controlling it won't let it eat. I am not sure the reason behind it but I know that it is true. I can't explain it but I have a feeling. The thing running this place might be hoping that the cattle might lure someone else in. Novum we need to kill this and then take care of the creature that made it."

"Berry when I give you the signal I need you to lower the shield and let it away from the wall. The two of us can handle it." Novum looked at how they were standing. "Wait. Crystal switch sides with me. I will hit it with my shield and you hit it with you charged mace."

Crystal gave him and nod and the two of them switched. "Now Berry."

With a sigh of relief Berry let the shield blink out of existence. The vampire was still pushing away from the wall and when the magic disappeared it came flying away, but in its surprise it was not prepared and was not in control of the jump. It flew straight at Novum's shield and he threw his weight forward and collided with the vampire in the air.

Novum took the blow on his shield but he left some give in the blow so that the vampire would not go flying away. It was more like he caught the vampire on his shield. Before the dazed vampire could react Novum twisted his body and slammed his shield towards the ground. He pinned the vampire between his shield and the floor.

Before the vampire could react Crystal fed more power into her mace and charged forward. She dropped the mace directly on the head of the restrained vampire with so much force that it exploded. The bits of flying head and brain were burning from their contact with divine power. The rest of the body quickly deflated and burst into flames.

Crystal sent her energy out into the building and found two more energy sources higher in the manor. "There are two more and they are much more powerful than all of these. Maybe all of these combined."

"Then we will rest here for a few minutes and then go and take care of them." Novum could feel the negative energy of the creatures as a cold wind from above him. This was going to be a hard fight if he could feel them.
