 Almost Discovered

Lucas seemed momentarily stunned but quickly regained his composure. While tying the belt of his robe, he nodded towards the bedroom with his chin.

"Go inside first." Kaylee immediately understood and quickly slipped into the bedroom, closing the door behind her. Lucas glanced at the slightly messy living room and then walked over to open the door.

"Uncle, why did you take so long to open the door? Dad asked me to bring you these documents..." Henry's voice came from outside. Through the bedroom door, Kaylee could vaguely hear their conversation.

"Here are the documents. You can go now." Lucas took the files and bluntly dismissed him.

"Wait a minute, I have something to discuss with you." Henry ingratiated himself, getting straight to the point. "It's about last night at the club. Could you not interfere?"

Lucas frowned, his sharp eyes fixed on him. "What do you mean?"

Henry gave a sleazy smile. "That girl last night, the sweet one, so pure and young. I want to get her."

Lucas's eyelid twitched, and he glanced unintentionally toward the bedroom, his face devoid of any warmth.

"No."

"Why not?" Henry didn't understand.

He'd had his fun many times before without Lucas intervening. This sudden stance as a protective elder was frustrating.

"She's off-limits. You can't handle her." Lucas issued a firm order.

Henry was still defiant. "Don't tell me you think I'm bullying her because she looks innocent. Let me tell you, she tried to sell herself for money recently. I overheard her phone call. Many guys at school want her. If I don't go after her, someone else will. Why should I pass up the opportunity?"

Hearing this, Lucas's eyes darkened. He remembered her crying last night and felt irritated by the thought of others eyeing her.

"Others, I don't care. But you..." He warned sternly, "Keep yourself in check. If I find out you did something you shouldn't, you know the consequences."

Henry shivered involuntarily, recalling Lucas's ruthless methods over the years. "Okay, okay, I get it. I won't target her."

Lucas shot him a cold look and turned to the wardrobe to change his clothes. "If you have nothing else, leave. Don't hang around here."

Henry sighed as he watched Lucas walk away. Just as he was about to leave, he noticed a shadow under the bedroom door. Someone was hiding inside? A woman? Henry's curiosity piqued, and he approached the bedroom.

Kaylee, listening intently behind the door, was startled when the door suddenly clicked open. Frozen in place, her mind went blank. As the door swung open, Henry's half-body appeared, making Kaylee's heart leap into her throat.

In the next instant, a tall figure darted into the room, shielding her in a familiar embrace. "Henry, get out!" Lucas's voice was dangerously low.

"Uncle, you actually have a woman here?" Henry exclaimed, standing rooted in shock, trying to peek at the woman in Lucas's arms. Kaylee buried her face in Lucas's chest, not daring to move.

Henry found the woman's back familiar, like he had seen her somewhere before. As he tried to get a closer look, Lucas kicked him hard. "Didn't you hear me? Get out!"

Lucas was genuinely furious now, his usually cold eyes filled with a terrifying menace. Henry didn't dare stay any longer and left reluctantly. The bedroom door slammed shut behind him.

Henry muttered under his breath, "Usually so proper, yet secretly bringing a woman home. He's better at this than I am!" Only when everything was quiet did Kaylee pull away from Lucas, her face still pale from fright.

"Thank you," she murmured. Without his timely intervention, things could have gone very badly for her.

"Other than contacting me, who else have you reached out to for this?" Lucas asked suddenly.

Kaylee was taken aback, shaking her head. "No one else. I only called you."

There was only one number on the advertisement, and she had only memorized that one.

Lucas gave her a glance. "Next time, be more cautious when you call. Be aware of your surroundings. Walls have ears."

Kaylee blushed and nodded, understanding his warning. She had overheard Henry's words earlier and realized her mistake. Fortunately, Henry didn't know who she had called, otherwise, the consequences could have been dire.

"Well... I'll be going then." Kaylee was about to leave but remembered that Lucas had blocked her. She added, "Don't worry, I won't bother you again. We're even now."

Lucas: "..." After two intimate encounters, she was treating him like a stranger.

Kaylee opened the door and left without looking back. Because of the discomfort, her walk was slightly unsteady. Lucas smirked and turned to tidy up the bed, thinking she was indeed quite inexperienced. He wondered how she would manage when she got married.

Kaylee lingered in the corridor for a while, making sure Henry was gone before she slowly headed back.

"Kaylee, what are you doing here?" A male voice suddenly called out, making Kaylee stand up straight.

"Mr. Qin?" Kaylee addressed him, but the man before her was more than just a teacher; he was James, a board member of the Technical University. He donated a substantial scholarship fund to the university every year, and as a recipient of that scholarship, Kaylee had her photo taken with him annually. They were somewhat acquainted.

"What a coincidence to meet you here. Are you visiting a friend?" James was dressed casually in grey, exuding a friendly and approachable demeanor.

Kaylee lied smoothly, "I'm here for a part-time job, now heading back to school." She had always worked part-time jobs since starting school, and her professors were aware of this.

James nodded understandingly. "I see. I remember you're graduating soon, right? This year?"

"Yes, in a month, I'll start my internship," Kaylee replied honestly.

"Hmm…" James thought for a moment and then offered, "How about interning with me? I'll speak to your advisor."

"Ah?" Kaylee was stunned, looking at him in confusion.

"I have a design project and need an assistant. Are you interested?" Kaylee's eyes lit up, and she immediately agreed.

"Yes, definitely! Thank you, Mr. Qin. I'll work hard!" Such an opportunity was like a dream come true for a student like her.

"Great, it's settled then. I'll contact you in a few days." Kaylee left the community in high spirits, her earlier discomfort forgotten. Lucas had indeed been a lucky charm, effortlessly securing her a valuable internship opportunity!

Not long after Kaylee left, a white Range Rover pulled up beside James. The window rolled down halfway, revealing Lucas's indifferent face.

James got into the car with ease. "Dr. Shi, you promised to stay for my birthday yesterday, but you disappeared halfway through. Where did you go?"
