Chapter 32

[Gareth's POV]

We slowed down as we reached the gentle slopes of rolling hills. We are about to leave Sirius territory and any rogue near by might be able to catch our scent if we're not careful, so we moved with caution. We stopped at the crest of a hill, overlooking where we are headed. A broad expanse of land and sky sit before us. I lifted my head. Untouched woodland stretched for miles beyond the Sirius property. Up ahead, a streak of yellow light bled through the mauve horizon in striking contrast to the pitch darkness of everything else. The wind carries strong scents of earth and vegetation, small animal droppings, and even traced of prey blood, but the night was calm. There was no sign of intruders. Everything seemed to be in its place, yet a certain tension hung in the air, foreboding.
