Chapter 33

"Rhonda," I called for her from the living room, as she was reading a book, that had her whole attention until I called her name, and she swiveled in her spot to meet my gaze. "Follow me." I got up from the bar, after reading one of the newest articles about the Young Inc.

She followed me up the stairs to the guest bedroom where I usually sleep except last night was an exception. Jacob was once again working hard on his project and I didn't want him to get distracted when I speak with Rhonda, because I want her to help me sneak out of this place.

"Kenzie..." She stopped when I took in a deep breath, glancing at her.

"I need your help deciding what I should do. Would it be for the best to shift once a month, instead of every three months?" I asked and she took in a deep breath, before walking over to sit on the edge of the bed.

"Since you're a pureblood wolf, it doesn't matter what you choose, your shifts and the time of the month don't line up anymore. Clove told me what I should look out for, and while she said that she does want to see you every three months because you are still not 'marked' by your mate, however, it's not necessary." She answered one of my unasked questions and I was grateful.

"So you're telling me, that my time of the month and shifting have nothing to do with each other. Okay, then I'm not required to shift every month either. Would you say it's wise to do it every month for about six months, letting my body get used to my wolf?" I asked, and she let out a sigh.

"Since you're trying to get used to your wolf the shortest time, shifting about every three weeks would help, which shouldn't a problem since you've shifted plenty of times between now and your first shift. It's not necessarily the shifting that is the big thing, it's how both you and your wolf side balance out, and that's why you need to shift.

"Is she listening to you?" She asked and I thought for a second before nodding.

"Although she has an attitude sometimes since she doesn't like how slow my relationship Jacob is going, but I keep her in check. There are times that she does get the best of me, but that's only when I'm unconscious, like the time I was kidnapped, she was ready to shift if anything tried to harm me." I crossed my arms, thinking about the recent events.

"I'm glad you two are compatible, it's good that you have a strong firm grip on the beast side of you because within the short time of interacting with the Mafia King, it's noticeable that he struggles with his wolf, only because he's either tired or doesn't care." She observed and I looked away.

"Our wolves have a mind of their own when we are together, and he's doing his best with me. Since the beginning, his wolf has always been protective and defensive around anybody except himself. There are very few people that can stand near me without setting off his wolf." I gently reminded her, taking a seat in the chair by the window.

"We need to talk about the prophecy." She crossed her legs, turning her vivid green eyes on me, tossing the copy of the prophecy in my hands, while pulling up a copy of it in the air, in fancy green ink. "Although you don't want to mention what you've come across while you were kidnapped, it seems that you're starting to get involved with vampires or especially high ranking ones." She bluntly pointed out and I looked at the ancient piece of paper in my hand.

"I've noticed that lately," I muttered jokingly, and she frowned, before highlighting the part of the prophecy that talked about the three possible mates. "Your point is?" I asked looking at the portion and she let out a tired sigh.

"I don't care where Jacob fits in this, but it is a possibility that this newfound interest of these vampires, might suggest that this could also be one of your mates." She answered my question and I frowned. Thinking back to that once pureblood vampire that disturbed me during my sleep.

"So are you telling me that if there is a possibility that a vampire is potential a mate as well? Does that mean that he would be cursed?" I asked questions and took in a deep breath, taking a couple of minutes to think about the questions I waited patiently.

"Do you know what is known as a curse to Lycans and werewolves?" She started by asking a question and I looked down at my hands, thinking of multiple things, but I'm sure she wasn't looking for any of them. "Although there are many things that lycans think are curses to them, including a dead mate, they often think of their enemies as curses too." She answered her question and I scrunched my brows together.

"In other words, you're saying that it is possible that a lycan can be shifted into a vampire, but he's not going to be a hybrid is it?" I asked thinking for a second. We indeed distaste vampires and very rarely get involved with them, because we can't stand them. But I didn't think a werewolf could be shifted to a vampire, especially a pureblood.

"Based on the words of the prophecy it seems that Selena the moon goddess was punishing that one lycan." Rhonda scoffed under her breath, as she lowered her green eyes, also piecing together these hints. "But it doesn't make sense that she would pair you up with a traitor if that's the case." She waved her hands, making the words of the prophecy disappear.

"There's probably more to that case," I answered her statement, lost in my thoughts, as I could think of countless possibilities with this potential pureblood vampire. "The purpose of getting a mate is to inherit a throne that is waiting for me, and that's only possible when I find the one that is compatible with me." I continued, and she turned her bright green eyes on me, narrowing them.

"You've met him before." She observed and I took in a deep breath. "When and how?" She asked in a firm tone and I let out a sigh.

"I haven't personally met this vampire, except in my dreams. Except that dream turned out to be real as I woke up with handprints on my neck. Yet somehow he also knew my ancient surname which very few people know about. So part of his curse could be that he is suffering through a reincarnation phase, but that's just a thought." I put it out there and she nodded, seeing my point.

"That is part of the curse of a vampire, seeing their lover reincarnated, but what does that have to do with you?" She asked and I shrugged letting out a tired sigh. Not wanting to think more about him.

"Rhonda, is there a possibility that you can see if I have a guardian angel?" I asked, shifting the topic and she tilted her head to the side, shocked by the request. "That night that I escaped from the compound, I can't seem to remember how I returned, but I have a feeling I came across another entity, but I'm not sure what it was." I crossed my arms, trying to think about my return only coming blank.

"Sorry, I can't." She answered, shattering my hope. "Then can you take the time to explain why I am not able to return just yet?" I asked, and she crossed her arms, looking out the window with tired eyes.

"Your father wants to take extra precautions. You've just entered the business world and there already seems to be somebody targeting you. If you return now, then his efforts will be wasted as he's trying to clear out the company of possible traitors. So he's asking if you'll stay here for a couple more days, till he can clear out the air." She walked over to me, crouching down to the floor, gently taking my hand.

"I don't care about his efforts, he's just trying to put up a show," I grumbled under my breath and she slightly nodded. "I don't care for his reasons, I can't continue to stay here, it makes me look like a coward as this is affecting multiple things, he's not thinking about the Mafia when he's dealing with this." I continued looking out the massive window, watching the animals walk around, enjoying the cool day.

"So you're going behind his back?" She asked, and I took in a deep breath, thinking about my options. Glancing at the door for a moment, I knew Jacob would be upset that I returning to the dangerous world, while he's getting busy, but he's willing to accept my choices. If I return home then I can see the status of both our Mafia and business.

"Although I'm not the one to go out of my way to look for danger, I can do much more when I out there, than staying put in an area. In order to get the answers to our questions, I need to search, in both worlds. My father can continue to act like a fool he is, while I get my answers, but I'm not going to listen to his commands anymore." I concluded and she dropped her head, letting out a defeated sigh, before patting my head.

"Yes, Alpha." She muttered, and I closed my eyes, patting her shoulder before rising from my seat to go back downstairs, waiting for the right moment to inform Jacob that it's time for me to return.
