Chapter 30

"Mackenzie, I don't want you to feel pressured to mate with Jacob, you're both young, and I wouldn't approve it until you're at least eighteen." She expressed, finally breaking the silence. She fixed her soft brown eyes on me, and I became flustered as she brought up the topic unexpectedly.

"Don't worry, we weren't planning on doing it just yet. Even though the moon goddess granted us our mates, we both realize that we have to focus on other things. We've come to a mutual understanding of how it's going to be for the next couple of years." I spoke in a reassuring tone, and she smiled, seeing that I wasn't intimidated by her.

"Besides, I'm still adjusting to my wolf, and he has a business to run, that doesn't need to be affected by me. Small dates, should be fine for now, and anytime we have business trips I'm sure we can meet up occasionally." I smiled, trying to calm my nerves as I felt like I was being judged, especially since I'm their rival's daughter.

"I'm not planning on interfering with the both of you, I'm just acting as a parent for the both of you, I'm sure he's getting the same talk with his father. You're both very important people to the business world." She reached over to touch my hand, and I almost pulled back, but stopped myself, waiting for her to continue. "Especially, you, since you've just entered the world, after being hidden for some time. I hope that you two will be careful as you continue forward." She forced me to meet her gaze and I nodded.

Her statement wasn't a threat, rather it was actually the concern from a fellow female wolf that went through the same trial, as she was an heiress and she fell in love with a lowly businessman.

"Trust me on my words. Anybody that is in the business or mafia world, there is no doubt that they're constantly being watched, waiting for any slipups or advantages that they can use against that person." She retracted her hand and I nodded. 'That's sadly the major problem about those worlds, once you enter, the privacy that you desire will be something that you fight hard for.'

She cleared out her throat, pulling me out of my thoughts, before sliding her phone on the table showing a list of dates. "To warn you, King Inc. is about to have a busy year, as a new production line is coming out. Sadly this means that the two of you won't have as much time together, unless, you sneak out of your homes." She smirked, as she saw my reaction to the rebellious act. Then she turned her brown eyes back to the house and replaced her smirk with a frown.

Watching her emotions change rather quickly, I followed her gaze, but couldn't see what she was frowning about.

"Madam, I'll make sure to not become the fall of him." I reached out to pat her hand, and she looked back at me a little puzzled before taking in a deep breath.

"That's not what I'm worried about, it's just that I can tell you'll have a hard time in the coming years. It seems Selena favors you, but that favor means a bunch of hardships. I can tell that you're already coming across some of them, like that wound on your arm that I noticed." She pointed to the small cut on my right shoulder and I frown for a second before nodding.

"Thank you for your concern, It has indeed been hard," I muttered before it returned to silence for the rest of the time.

"So you found your mate." He started, sliding a folder across the coffee table while glancing out the door with a tired expression. "Of all people, it could've been, it had to be a Young." He muttered under his breath, and I rolled my eyes in response. Turning my attention to the small folder, I looked at all the things that were happening in the next year.

"A new production line is being introduced?" I asked, noticing all the dates, and major titles that only confirmed the question. "Why don't you handle this yourself, and return to your position?" I asked, setting down the folder, irritated that this was also being pushed onto me.

"I can't return. Your mother and I will be doing some deals abroad to set you up with more investors, and I'm leaving this in your hands, hoping that you can make this dream come alive. This is your business anyway since it's been two years since I've put you in the CEO position, and yet you are still refusing to do these things?" He asked in a shocked tone and I scoffed under my breath.

"You told me that this was a temporary position, where I would take over for a year and a half, get a feeling of it, and then you would take it back. How come you're still wandering around, you still have plenty of time to do these plans." I frowned and he narrowed his eyes, unpleased with my attitude.

He seemed to tell there was a difference and me and decided to try to blame someone else, although he didn't pick the right person.

"Does your mate has a part in this newfound attitude?" He brazenly asked and I scoffed in disbelief again, before glancing at the back door where both my mother and my girlfriend were talking in calm tones, despite the small pangs of worry that went through my chest.

I was relieved that my mother took a liking toward her, it made things much easier.

"If I get into this new project, and don't have time for my mafia duties, how do you think it will affect me. Besides, I need to keep an eye on my girlfriend because she's already been kidnapped once by a vampire, and we're sure that it's a pureblood one, too." I leaned forward in my seat, and he let out a sigh, glancing out the backdoor.

"Then she's weak, like all of the Youngs." He answered and I shook my head in disbelief, before rising from my seat, fighting the urge to start a fight, as my wolf was banging on the door, asking to be let out.

"Unlike Alex, her target isn't us, rather it's her father. And before you start walking around calling people weak, I suggest you wait for results or you'll be eating the words you spit out. I don't mind helping you with this project, but Mother can meet with these investors while you're stuck with me." I stepped around the coffee table, standing in front of my father, and he didn't lower his eyes despite being a lower alpha.

"I don't care about your relationship with that Young, just don't come crying to me when something bad happens because of her. She might be a higher-ranking wolf than most of us, but with great power comes great responsibility, the same applies to you too. You're mother and I have taken the time to read the prophecy, and we both know that it will not be easy." He changed the subject and I nodded glancing out the front window, with a tired gaze.

"I'll see you in the office in a couple of days." I patted his shoulder, and he took his leave, stepping out of my house, and I let out a loud sigh. 'Somehow two people have walked into my house, and managed to piss me off.' I grumbled to myself, turning when I heard the backdoor open, letting in my mother and my mate.

Smiling to both of them, I hugged my mother, and he whispered into my ear, 'take good care of her, despite being busy.' and I nodded in response. She also hugged Kenzie as well, aware that she was nervous, but Kenzie accepted the hug, smiling at my mother, with that beautiful charming smile that made my head beat fast.

Watching my mother follow after my father, and listening to the car pulling out of the driveway, we let out a sigh of relief in unison, before meeting each other's gazes. She had her blueish-green eyes on me, watching me closely.

"Seeing your expression, Mr. King doesn't approve of me. Figured." She muttered under her breath, and I hid a smirk that was working its way on my face, as she didn't hesitate to say her opinion. "Either way, both of them seemed to know about the prophecy, I could tell in his face that he wasn't pleased. However, your mother didn't seem to have a problem, I guess I'm off to a good start." She smiled, as she thought about the bright side.

"I'm sure you heard that it will be a hectic year of King Inc., I hope you won't use this information to your advantage when you return to Birmingham." I flicked her forehead, as I stepped closer to her, and she frowned, glaring at me.

"I'm going to be busy with business classes, mafia, and working to settle my wolf, to care about your new production line. Trust me when I say, he won't hear a single word of it, from me." She leaned forward, holding out her pinky finger and I rolled my eyes before sealing it.

"I'll hold you to your words, Kenzie." I replied watching her cheeks turn pink before she diverted her bright blueish-green eyes from mine.
