Victor’s POV
The only sound in my office was the incessant tapping of my foot against the hardwood floor beneath me. Besides that, nothing else was heard. I had stopped pretending to be occupied with the pages and documents in front of me a long time ago, and now I sat staring at my phone, staring at Tara’s conversation with me and hoping to see those floating three dots beside her name.
Still, nothing.
It was cutting close to the one hour mark since our last communication. I had told her to check in on me every half an hour, and my mind immediately assumed the worst, given everything that’s been happening around us lately. I knew it wasn’t a good idea to send her and Sima alone, I should have gone with them. I should have at least let a patrol go with them.
I tried calling her but no one picked up on the other end.
