Ch. 58 Battling The Mutant
Jerome took Guin to where Lord Fane and his wife were buried once the sun rose and all the evil creatures returned to their nests to hide from the sunlight. Guin scanned her surroundings, feeling a strange familiarity with the area. Despite the barren, plantless landscape, one willow tree stood out, lush, and filled with spiritual energy. It was clear that something powerful was supporting this tree's life source. Guin wondered what it could be.
"They are under this tree," Jerome said, pointing to the vibrant willow that stood out in the middle of the dry, barren land.
Using magic, Jerome retrieved two normal-sized nine-tailed fox corpses from underground without having to dig up the tree. As soon as he did, the leaves on the tree became dry, falling and dying. Guin now understood what had kept the tree so vigorous—it was her parents' divine bodies. Even in death, their celestial forms had sustained the tree for years in this lifeless plane.
