Chapter 41: Moment of Truth

Dirge POV

They’d made the potion! He sniffed the fiery, smoky brew in its cauldron. “Casuhill, thank you for this. And Calyx, too.”

“He’s gone,” Thessi told him.

Pivoting, Dirge scanned and sniffed the area. Thessi was right. Casuhill had vanished. Jiro and Garnet also searched, then nodded to Dirge and Thessi. “I hope he gets a well-earned rest,” Garnet said kindly.

Tulaska and Roslynn smiled and shook their heads. “The Forest Mother has probably been waiting for him to figure out on his own that he needed to move on,” Tulaska said wisely.

Dirge’s mind was racing. “Speaking of time … how long have we been here, Calyx?”

“Three days,” Calyx answered promptly.

Jiro’s jaw dropped. “Fascinating. To my mind, it seems that only a few hours have passed!”

Thessi shivered. “So, we only have four days left before I have to return to Brighmere … and I’m taking the long way home, just to prove that the potion works.”
