Clause 1(b): The couple will engage in sexual and intimate activities once a week with the objective of producing an heir.
The sheer absurdity of that clause hit me like a brick wall. I could almost hear the contract laughing at me for taking it seriously. The word sex was so casually slipped into the document, like it was just another item on a grocery list.
Evening my ragged breaths, I stared at Alec, feeling like the earth had just dropped out from beneath me. "This Clause 1(b)." I paused, struggling to keep my voice steady, "is about having sex once a week."
Alec nodded, looking as if he'd just confirmed the sky was blue. "Yep."
"I don't think I heard you correctly," I managed, my voice sounding far calmer than I felt. "Did you just say we will work on that 'tonight'?"
He took a step closer, his expression amused, like he was enjoying my discomfort. "That's right. Tonight."
