Chapter 4 Put Your Company out of Business!

The next morning, Shelton made breakfast and came back to the room when Vera came out of the bathroom.

"Something wrong?"

Seeing Shelton looking at her, Vera asked lightly.

"Here's the thing," Shelton said, "one of my classmates is working at the headquarters of a bank. He came to the State of New York yesterday on business. I thought I'd ask him if he could give you a loan. Maybe I won't be back to make lunch. You'll have to talk to Mom. She's going to scold me."

"Okay."

Vera replied briefly. She picked up her phone and transferred 400 dollars to Shelton.

"That's..."

Shelton was confused.

"I don't expect you to help me, but you're a man. You'll be looked down upon by your classmate if you don't have the money to pay the bill. Don't tell my mom."

After that, Vera took her bag and went downstairs.

Shelton froze for a minute and felt warm.

He just wanted an excuse not to come back to make lunch, but he was warmed by Vera.

She was a little cold, but she was nice to him.

...

Tripod Group was one of the top five privately held companies in the real estate, investment, trading, energy, express, and hospitality sectors. It was headquartered in New York and had branches nationwide and abroad. Tripod Group's majority shareholder was the Reed family with a 70 percent stake.

At this point, Shelton was in Tripod Building.

"Hello, are you here to apply for a job?" As soon as he entered the building, a receptionist approached him and asked politely.

"No, I'm looking for the president." Shelton smiled back at her.

"You're looking for Ms. Flynt?" the receptionist frowned and looked Shelton up and down, and then she said seriously, "Ms. Flynt is very busy. Not everyone is qualified to see her. Since you're not here to apply for a job, please get out."

Shelton looked shabby and his clothes weren't as expensive as Tripod Group's security guards'. The receptionist looked down on him.

"Please call her and tell her that Shelton is here to see Larry."

Shelton had called Larry on the way in, but the line was busy, so he had to ask the president to contact Larry.

"We don't have a Larry here. You've got the wrong place. Get out or I'll call security," the receptionist said impatiently.

Shelton was speechless.

Tripod Group was owned by the Reed family. How could he be in the wrong place?

At that moment, a young man with a Gucci purse approached and greeted the receptionist. "Hey, Lucy."

"Mr. Perry, long time no see."

Lucy Milton grinned and promptly ignored Shelton.

"I was out of town on business and only got back a few days ago. I came by today to see Ms. Flynt about a multi-billion dollar project," Troy said deliberately.

"Mr. Perry, you deserve to be a distinguished young man in Houston!" Lucy laughed and glanced at Shelton. "Some people dress so shabbily but want to meet Ms. Flynt."

Troy Perry looked over and couldn't help but say, "You loser want to meet Ms. Flynt?

"Why can't I see her if you can?" Shelton responded unhappily.

Troy laughed out loud. "Tripod Group is the leading private company in our country and has several trillion dollars. As head of Branch of Tripod Group in the State of New York, Ms. Flynt has hundreds of billions of dollars. She doesn't care about business that is worth less than 20 million dollars. If you want to talk to her about anything worth over 20 million dollars, you have to make an appointment. I have a 40-million-dollar project with Tripod Group, so I made an appointment three days ago and was told to come in today. Do you have an appointment?"

"No." Shelton shook his head.

"Then why are you still standing here? You don't even have the qualifications to apply for a job at Tripod Group. Get out." Troy pointed in the direction of the front door.

"Get out or I'll really call security," Lucy said impatiently.

Shelton said angrily, "I'll ruin your company."

"Haha!"

Troy and Lucy both laughed out loud.

"Who do you think you are? You're going to destroy my company? My family has over a billion dollars. What's wrong with you?" Troy laughed angrily.

"Yes!" Lucy echoed. "If you're that powerful, you'll get me out of my job first. If you aren't, stop pretending and get out of here!"

However, just as she finished speaking, she heard a soft shout.

"He's not pretending. He's capable of getting me out of my job, let alone yours!"

Everyone looked over. A beautiful woman in a suit approached in her high heels. Her long and straight legs were very attractive.

She was over 5.6 feet tall. She had brown curly hair, a delicate face, and fair skin. She looked very sexy in her suit.

She was so beautiful!

Sarah Flynt!

Shelton recognized this woman right away.

The president of each branch of Tripod Group had been carefully groomed by the Reed family since childhood. Sarah was chosen by the Reed family at the age of six and sent abroad to study at the age of eighteen. He hadn't seen her since then. He hadn't expected to see her there.

"Ms... Ms. Flynt..."

Lucy's face instantly paled. She hadn't expected Ms. Flynt to appear out of nowhere.

"Don't be afraid."

Troy gently reassured her, pointed at Shelton, and asked with a smile, "Ms. Flynt, do you know this loser?"

Sarah's face instantly darkened. "Do you know what this man you call a loser can do?"

The smile froze on Troy's face. "What do you mean?"

"He says the word and your resort will go bankrupt."

"What!"

Troy shuddered violently. "Ms. Flynt, are you... are you kidding me?"

"Shut up!" Sarah said coldly, "Listen, he's the grandson of the chairman of Tripod Group, the third son of the Reed family, and the heir to Tripod Group!"

It was so shocking.

No one expected this poorly-dressed loser to be the heir to Tripod Group!

Poof!

Lucy collapsed to the floor.

"Mr... Mr. Reed..."

Troy shuddered. Eventually, his knees went weak and he cried, "Mr. Reed, I was wrong. I shouldn't have been rude to you. Please let me go. Please don't let my resort go bankrupt. My dad will kill me..."

He had no doubt that it would be easy for Tripod Group to ruin his resort.

"I'm just a loser. Don't beg me."

Shelton passed by him and headed for the elevator.

Sarah snorted. "Since you insulted the heir to Tripod Group, as of today, Tripod Group stops all cooperation with your resort. Get out."

"Don't, Ms. Flynt, don't! My resort will go out of business!"

Troy cried out.

Sarah didn't say anything but looked at Lucy. "Go to the finance department and get your salary. You're fired."

Then she strode after Shelton.

"What was wrong with me? How could I treat Mr. Reed like a loser? I don't have a job anymore..."

Lucy cried out in remorse.

"Come on, my resort has to lose hundreds of millions. My dad will kill me!"

...

In a luxurious office on the top floor of Tripod Building, Shelton stood in front of a floor-to-ceiling window looking down at Chicago. He said faintly, "Since I'm a live-in son-in-law, I'm not going to inherit the Reed family's estate. Give my wife a loan of 20 million dollars and I can stop hating the Reed family."

"Mr. Reed, Old Mr. Reed says it's best if you get a divorce and it's okay if you don't. You just have to sign the inheritance agreement. We'll talk about the rest later," Larry said from behind Shelton.

"I'm definitely not getting a divorce. I'm a live-in son-in-law. My children will have to take my wife's last name. Isn't he afraid I'll give the Reed family's estate to the Nilson family?" Shelton turned his head and sneered at Larry.

"Old Mr. Reed said we'd talk about it later. You have to sign the inheritance agreement now. If you don't, we won't give your wife a penny," Larry said.

Shelton suddenly clenched his fists and shouted angrily, "Did he set me up? Are you behind the crisis in my wife's company?"

Larry shook his head. "How could Old Mr. Reed have set you up? As for the crisis in your wife's company, it was planned by someone else. If you don't sign the agreement, she will be someone else's wife in a few days."

Shelton was silent.

It broke his heart to think that last night Vera said she could give herself to him for the next three nights.

She must be so desperate.

He was a loser in her eyes, but she would rather give herself to him than to Haward. He didn't have to think about it to know how much she didn't want to marry Haward.

Finally, Shelton gritted his teeth and made his decision.

"I'll sign."

"Great!" Larry was overjoyed and immediately made a gesture. "Please, Mr. Reed."

Shelton went to the desk and signed the agreement.

"Congratulations. You'll get all the money from the Reed family!"

Larry grinned as he opened the medical kit and took out a syringe. "Mr. Reed, I need to draw some blood from you. It's a matter of life and death for the Reed family."

Shelton rolled up his sleeves and held out his hand.

He didn't know who his maternal grandfather was and why the Reed family was so afraid of him.

"All right, Mr. Reed, take care!"

Larry put the half-syringe of blood into a glass vessel and quickly left with the vessel and the inheritance agreement to prevent Shelton from backtracking.

Outside the office, he told Sarah, "Mr. Reed has signed the inheritance agreement. Do as he says and take good care of him or I won't let you go."

"Yes, sir."

Sarah nodded.

"I'm going back to New York. Don't let Old Mr. Reed down."

Finally, Larry strode away.
