Chapter 28
“Bear, would you mind giving me some petrol? I’m working on an act.”
Bear’s expression changed from a friendly one to one of suspicion. “What’s your new act? Burning down the big top?”
Nathan swallowed hard. “Fire twirling.”
Bear looked him up and down. “I don’t know, mate. I don’t want any trouble.”
“Look, no one will ever know. I won’t say a word. Come on. I can pay you for it. I only want a little bit.”
“How much?”
“Half a bottle,” said Nathan thrusting the empty bourbon bottle at Bear.
Bear snatched it out of his hand. “Wait here,” he said, looking decidedly annoyed.
When he returned the bottle was almost three quarters full of strong smelling, slightly pink petrol.
“Here,” he grunted, handing the bottle back to Nathan.
“Thanks, Bear. And don’t worry. You don’t have anything to worry about.”
Bear folded his arms and leant back against his rig, but remained silent.
