Chapter 27

“I don’t know too much about it. Beth-Ann will willingly tell anyone who’ll listen her story, but Walter is another kettle of fish. I doubt even Beth-Ann knows how he ended up here. All I know is he obviously had some kind of run in with Leroy and so he decided to cut young Walter down to size. Everyone here has had some kind of trouble with Leroy.”

“So he’s taken it upon himself to teach us a lesson?”

Karl nodded. “Seems he must have been in one hell of a foul mood when you crossed him.”

He stared at the passing trees and shrubs feeling numb. Vague thoughts swam about at the edge of his mind; thoughts of family and friends, of his old life. Would he ever be able to return?

“You didn’t tell me how burning up Leroy’s caravan is going to help you.”

Nathan heard the question and blinked himself back into the present.
