Chapter 19
“What are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about earning your keep. It’s time for you to go and earn me some money. I can’t say it’s going to be pleasant, but then being deceived isn’t pleasant either. Now lie down and I’ll make this as painless as possible.”
Leroy began to chant, a deep guttural droning from the depths of his being. His physical form faded into the darkness, though the monotonous chant remained. Suddenly Nathan felt a slash of pain on his arm and a trickle of something warm running down his forearm to his hand. It felt like part of his skin was being peeled away. Another sharp pain from his leg drew his attention to a head-shaped layer of skin poking out into the semi-light, followed by an arm and a leg.
Nathan gritted his teeth and writhed against the pain. Tears flowed down his face as more and more of the tattoos came to life, ripping themselves free of his body to become three-dimensional beings.
