After an hour had passed, Old Patriarch Feng Hong announced his decision to pass businesses' management to the Eldest Miss Feng Suyan. A contract was drafted under the eyes of the Second Miss Feng Xiaohua, Third Elder Feng Tianlu, and his cronies.
Xiaohua was trembling from the intense stares she was receiving from the Old Patriarch and other elders standing beside the woman who stole the heir's seat from her.
While, Feng Tianlu, on the other hand, couldn't help but be disappointed at the woman he invested his time and resources. Women are too emotional creatures. Feng Tianlu reasoned this out and sent another reproachful look at the woman in red qipao standing beside him. They had a huge advantage but somehow this darn flower vase ruined their chance at gaining complete control of the Feng's assets.
Come to think of it, Feng Suyan was also quite abnormal today. Her speech, composure and the knowledge about some business matters had taken him aback. What had happened? They were pretty sure she was an airhead with only flirting and spending on her mind.
But now Feng Tianlu re-evaluated everything about the woman.
Did she only put on a show to lower their guards and waited for this moment?
But her getting appointed as an heir might be just a temporary loss for them. How long can she warm the seat with her little knowledge? They only needed to create some problems for her from behind and use the opportunity to pin the blame on her.
Lilian, on the other hand didn't care for the scroll in the Old Patriarch's hands or Feng Tianlu's scheming mind, she was only thankful that the dim clouds filled with lighting roars had already dissipated into nothingness and left only a tiny screen stating 'CONGRATULIONS! You earn a level two plume.'
She was finally relieved.
Level two plume? For some reason, she remembered those flying artifacts and was a little bit excited.
"Suyan, if you needed something just tell your Uncle Xiu and Older Brother Yu."
"Indeed Miss, whatever you needed, this one will do his best to be of service."
Yu also nodded and smiled at her. It was evident that he was glad of her accomplishment though a part of him was troubled for her sudden estrangement.
Suyan, for him, was quite different today. It feels as if she had become a soaring eagle and left her days of a 'depended fledging' under his wings. He wrinkled his forehead and looked at her direction deeply.
Lilian was conscious of his emotional eyes and averted her attention from him. She was not entirely sure about her situation. After wrapping up this, she would spare her time understanding what she threw herself into. The projection screens, the unfamiliar people and the fantasy world, and her name which should belong to her friend, unending questions enlisted in her head.
"C-Congratulations" the others gritted their teeth and forced out the word.
The three other elders happily bid her their hopes and best wishes.
"Eldest Miss, if you need some assistance Six and Seven is at your call." The middle aged man who had a mole under his eye flashed a grin and send another to the Old Patriarch's way.
Truthfully everyone single one in the room possessed looks above the average people. Even those old folks still retained signs of splendour and vitality thus to address them grandpa and uncle would be quite awkward.
Out of the three, two had genuine smiles on their lips while the other only threw her a glance.
Unbothered Lilian nodded and also smiled in courtesy.
The drafting of the will ended quickly because the Old Patriarch had prepared everything. The only thing lacking were her name and a drop of her blood-wait a drop of blood? She was perplexed by the strange rites.
Lilian wasn't afraid of poking her fingers rather she was stunned. She once looked at the Old man again and found out he wasn't joking at all and thus, that left her no choice but to bite her finger and filled the corner of the contract of a small red dot.
And then, all of a sudden, under her hands the contract vanished and turned into a light which flew towards her wrist.
The hot feeling scorched her skin. Like tidy needles pricking her a thousand times within a span of couple of seconds.
And a miraculous thing happened.
Her wrist that was devoid of any marks now had a round crimson glossy tattoo. The edges of it had strange inscriptions she couldn't understand but at the center she could clearly discerned the two stretching wings of a phoenix. It was awesome to say the least. She was discovering new things about this world as the minutes passed by and was not freaked out but on the contrary she was amazed by the lack of scientific rules governing the world.
"That is only temporary. A month after, the official appointing ceremony will be held in this ancestral home again. I expect everyone to be supportive."
Feng Tianlu heard the old man's reminder and secretly sent a look at Suyan.
Lilian was aware of the meaning behind his gaze and returned an equal provocation at him.
She had deep hatred towards men who discriminates against woman.
There is 13:1 ratio of men to women running a company and this numerical figure was partly caused by gender barriers.
After the gathering was conclude, Lilian followed the Old Patriarch to his study because of some pressing matters.
Xu and the young man walked behind her.
Lilian felt she had through an ancient maze after witnessing the winding halls and confusing paths of the ancestral home.
However she suddenly realized that she hadn't seen a single technology since she woke up. The ring tone she thought was coming from a phone was made by a glowing rock instead. The air transportation was things that defied the gravity. No neon lights or any fans or air-conditioned or any sort of- Wait!
Hold on!
Let's stop there!
Waking up in an unfamiliar world different from she lived had already hit her logical mind with a punch.
She had enough for the day.
She stopped her thoughts albeit her heart was still restless because of the facts.
The entourage reached their destination.
Two people dressed in black tang suits looking quite valiant and fearless opened the door and let them inside.
Lilian saw the interiors of the room. Her eyes constantly searched for any technology but were unsuccessful in the end.
She only recognized an abacus displayed inside the shelves and frowned. She does respect those people who preserved old customs and traditions up to this date but wouldn't it save time to use a calculator or an excel macro sheet instead? This question drilled into her mind even when the Old Patriarch offered them a seat.
Xu went to the Old Patriarch and took the numerous books compiled the table.
Lilian was able to gloss her sight on the cover of the books Xu carried. She recognized the basic titles in them and figured out they were another batch of ledgers and journals.
"Suyan are you really able to read those documents? Tell grandpa honestly."
Xu coughed, "Since you already knew what I have done, why are you still asking the girl. Spare her from the troublesome matter."
"Although I was glad that Feng Tianlu wasn't able to succeed. Your meddling is still not right." He sighed and massaged his head recalling Xiaohua's situation. Based from today's results, Feng Tianlu might do something to ruin the business under Suyan's management.
"If Xiaohua just realized that Tianlu was just using her…" He sighed again in the end. Lilian got a hint of the circumstances in his tone and words.
She remembered the beautiful woman dressed in red qipao. The uncle this Old man called as 'brat 'addressed that woman as 'Xiaohua'.
The young man touched the note inside his sleeve and pulled it under the Old Patriarch's eyes.
Xu was surprised, "Didn't the servant pass it unto Suyan, why is it in your hands?"
The young man gazed at the woman that surprised his today, "Suyan didn't use your note at all. She passed it to me before even reading the notes in it." He bobbed his throat and returned the long note to Xu.
Xu's hand trembled and grasped the note filled with his writing.
He copied down the notes of the manager currently running the store. It was a long list and just from the fact that Suyan hated memorising stuff especially about business drove the people in the room drowned in complicated expressions.
The room was basked in silence for a few seconds before the Old Patriarch broke the ice, "So Suyan really knows how to review these records?"
"Honestly, why are you all sound surprised? Being able to recognize entries is a required basic knowledge for every proprietor."
"That's good then. Suyan, I'll be leaving the business on you from now on." In extreme happiness the Patriarch beamed from ear to ear.
"Wait…" she hadn't completed her speech when the notification sounds rang again in her head followed by a virtual screen.
Ting-
Side mission: Raise the textile business' revenue to 20%
Reward: 10,000 power stones
Punishment: Teleported to the deepest ocean floor
Lilian's mouth twitched while reading the 'punishment' section.
The lighting was gone but another type of punishment was issued. Such creativity, she really need to give 'whatever this thing is' a thumbs up.
And as if on cue, the wood below her feet was replaced by the view of the dark murky waters of the deepest ocean floor. There were even some unknown species of fishes swimming about and some glowing organisms.
She looked up and hastily replied, "Yes I know. If you want I will manage the business tomorrow at first light."
