1 - An ominous sign

Above the skies of the Earth kingdom, a giant fireball was falling extremely fast, from the four corners of the world, almost everyone could see the blazing ball... For many, it was their first time witnessing something like a meteor, but for the old and almost dying Avatar, this was a serious problem.

Yangchen had her fair amount of problems to solve during her life, her connection to the spiritual world was strong and she learned many things that others could only hope to know, hence it could be understood why she was known by her wisdom, determination, and power.

She left her room at the western air temple and using air bending flew towards the Earth Kingdom, with the hope of stopping a calamity from happening.

Seeing the old lady approaching, the citizens started kneeling and praying for her to help them. Most inhabitants of this kingdom revered her and would always pray for her protection whenever something dangerous was happening.

Seeing as the giant ball of fire was approaching, her eyes and tattoos shined with light, her chi increased as if it wouldn't stop, using this amount of energy would cost many months of her almost ending life, but she couldn't allow the death and destruction of so many beings when she can help.

Using all of her strength, she summoned air, water, and earth to help her, creating some sort of giant hurricane on the skies, she launched it at the meteor. The collision between them generated an impact wave that traveled the whole kingdom and made people tremble in fear.

As the Avatar, she commanded powers beyond what most humans would ever be capable of wielding, even if it was a meteor, this wouldn't be really a problem for her, and as expected at some point the ball of flames was stopped. Strangely, when the flames died down, all that remained was the charred body of a male.

His features were unrecognizable, but she was extremely surprised seeing this man, somehow his chi energy and purity were beyond even hers that was the Avatar.

She used air bending to fly towards the man and look at him closely, surprisingly his shining silver armor was in a perfect state despite his body being basically destroyed. But what truly impressed her was the vast unending vitality lurking within him.

"How is it possible for a man at death's door to have so much vitality!?" As she questioned her findings, something happened with the man, his armor shined with blue light and disappeared as if it was never there, a green light filled with energy and vitality left his body.

At that moment, the body turned to ashes and all that remained was a soul that slept in that green ball and before the Avatar could react, it flew away at an unbelievable speed that she couldn't even follow with her eyes.

Knowing that her job was done, and there was nothing else she could do about this situation, she sighed and after spending some time at the Earth Kingdon, went back to the air temple. She probably had only one more year until her death at best, she would use the remaining time of her life, to spread her knowledge and rest.

A year later, at 345 BG, Yangchen died with a smile on her face.

...

311 BG, somewhere within the fire nation capital...

Waah, waah!

A baby was crying just after being born, its mother was holding it with affection and love in her eyes. Some nurses were waiting with their backs to the wall and the woman's husband had a smile on his face as he watched them.

"Meeye, have you decided on the name of our son?" Asked the man.

"Hmm." She nodded. "He will be called Shozin."

She played with his little hands as she fed him milk.

The man turned to one guard that stood outside of the room and said. "Tell them to prepare, we will be leaving the Fire Nation tomorrow morning."

The guard made a salute and said. "Yes, sir!"

The man turned to the nurses, and gave one of them a bag with money, "Thanks for your services, you may leave now."

They merely bowed and left.

Seeing as he was alone with his wife, he sat down next to her and caressed the face of his son.

"Asalam, will we be going back to the Earth Kingdom?"

He nodded and sighed. "I have decided to quit that job, with the fortune I amassed over the years, it should be enough for us to live in peace and without worries for at least a century!"

Seeing the smile on her husband's face, she sighed. Meeye had married him 15 years ago, she knew him better than anyone and could easily say that he was still worried. He didn't have the most honorable or most respectful job, in fact, his line of work could even be considered an evil one.

"Don't worry honey, I trust you no matter what..."

Asalam clenched his fist and bit his lips after hearing his loved wife words. It was his fault in the end, what else could he have expected from his life when he decided to become an assassin. He knew very well that his enemies had been paying attention to his moves for a few weeks now, someone must have leaked that his wife was giving birth...

"Just rest, you will need strength for tomorrow." He kissed her and left the room.

...

EIGHT YEARS LATER

Somewhere on the outer areas of the Southern Air Temple, a kid carrying a katana on his waist walked through a dark and narrow path amidst the trees, he had a smile on his face and wore an orange wool tunic at the top and yellow at the bottom, despite the resemblance to the airbending monks' clothing, the boy did not have arrowhead tattoos or shaved hair.

In fact, his fire-red hair was long and smooth and was tied in a ponytail. In the past his hair was not that color, those who knew him since he was a child were amazed at the change.

The majority of the people associated his changes with the spirits, but the boy knew the truth very well. Yin Huiliang was a name that popped up from time to time in his head.

When he slept, unbelievable dreams appeared in his mind, and filled him with knowledge of distant and magical worlds, for him it was as if a story was told in his mind whenever he closed his eyes. Some were about revenge and betrayal, survival and despair, love and intrigue, politics, and management...

However, among all the things the stories taught him, some were much more interesting than others, such as cultivation techniques, for some reason, when he started having those dreams, the first thing he learned was a cultivation technique called, 'The Three Heavenly Revolutions', he started using it unconsciously whenever he slept.

And after two years his hair gradually became like that. Weirdly enough, the cultivation technique was capable of making his body stronger and it also helped him with his Air Bending, it somehow increased the power of his techniques, although it isn't that great of a boost.

Based on what he knew, he was currently at the seventh rank of the body transformation stage, called 'Tempering Marrow', as far as he knew this shouldn't be possible considering his age even if he had amazing talent, so after searching the knowledge he got after years of dreams, all he could say was that this world was overflowing with Yuan Qi, to the point that his body was evolving extremely fast just because he had means to cultivate.

Soon he arrived at a secluded village that was a few minutes away from the beach, he was in one of the islands between the Earth Kingdom and the Southern Air Temple. People could be seen walking around, trying to sell their product, or simply resting. The villagers depended on fishing and the animals of the forest around to survive.

Some of the residents were from various nations around the world, like the fire nation, the water tribe, and so on. Those who came here were usually seeking a peaceful life or the wisdom of the Air monks, either way, this was a welcoming place, and also one of the only villages where it was easy to find an air monk.

Some kids noticed the boy approaching and ran at him with smiles on their faces.

"Brother Shozin! Are you going to play with us now?" The little kids were jumping around full of energy while looking at him with puppy eyes. Usually, some kids of the southern air temple, like Shozin would go down the mountains to play together with the kids of the village.

"I'm sorry Gonpo," Shozin answered the boy who asked him and looked at the other with an apologetic smile. "I'm here on duty today, I promise to play with you when I have time."

Shozin waved his hand at them biding his farewell and kept walking towards the biggest house in the village. Shozin master tasked him with the responsibility to tell the village elder about the tempest that was approaching. When things like that happened the villagers would have to leave the seas around and stay at their homes, they did this to help reduce the chances of someone dying because of bad weather.

Shozin knocked on the door and waited, after a while, an old man with a beard that reached to his feet, opened the door, and smiled at the boy who had just arrived.

"Young Shozin, it is good to see you, what brings you to my humble abode? Would you like to enter and drink a cup of ginseng tea?"

"Hehe, I'm sorry, I don't really like tea, as for the reason I came, is to warn about the approaching tempest, Master Gyatsaa said that it must take a day until it arrives."

"Only a day!?" The village elder opened his wide.

"Is there any problem, elder Bo?" Shozin raised an eyebrow after seeing the elder's reaction.

"Young Shozin, could you help us warn those who had left the village to fish on the bigger boats, they would be staying two days outside and are already too far away for us, only the air monks have the means to reach them." He kneeled and bowed his head to the point of touching the ground.

"Ahh! Please, elder Bo, there is no need for that, don't worry about this issue, I'll help you guys."

"Oh! Thanks, Shozin, we'll make sure to reward you with a banquet after the tempest end!" Bo had a big smile on his face as he said that.

"Um! I look forward to it, I see you later." Shozin left the elder's house and started running towards the forest.

He climbed the biggest tree he could see, and when he reached the top, he whistled using air bending. After a few seconds, a flying bison appeared from the north.

"Kaze!" Shozin, waved his hand to attract the bison's attention.

"Mwuoh!" The bison replied as it flew towards him.

Shozin jumped out of the tree and fell right on top of the bison. He patted his head and said. "Kaze, we will go towards the sea, in that direction!" Shozin pointed to the east and the bison made another sound as if agreeing.

It took them merely a few minutes to arrive at the open sea, white clouds could be seen everywhere, bellow them some times it was possible to see some sea creatures swimming happily as if they were dancing.

Shozin smiled as he looked at them, some of those creatures were great playmates, sometimes he and his other friends would mount on them.

After two hours looking around, all he managed to find was two big fishing boats that the villagers used. He talked to the fishermen in one of the boats and asked if there was any other he should search for.

"Hm, there's one, but there was a leak on the boat, Palden said that he would visit Yokoya port to fix the problem."

"Alright, thanks friend, stay safe!" He waved his hand as him and Kaze started flying once again, but this time towards the port that was on the Yokoya island.

------------------------------------------------

This chapter has 2040 words more or less, future chapters will have between 3 and 5 thousand, however, don't expect me to publish every day, it takes time to prepare the events, conflicts, and writing something of this size, I'll try at least to publish one or two chapters per week.

What do you think about this beginning? I'm thinking about making this like a light novel or something similar in terms of the size of the chapters, somethings will be explained eventually, don't worry too much about them for now, I'm using this story as a practice, I wanted to try writing something with a certain level of quality, not that I managed to achieve it though...

About the mc, be warned, he will eventually start to learn the other bendings as well, also before you talk about his hair not being shaved, he eating meat and similar things, just wait for the future chapters that will explain his relationship with the Air monks of the southern air temple... and what happened to his family...

In case you didn't notice yet, this story happens at the same time as Avatar Kyoshi. Also, this is not a wish-fulfillment story, I do not plan to give him cheats(you can argue that cultivating is cheating, and yeah I don't have answers for this statement... Sigh), plot advantages out of nowhere, or make him the cliche protagonist that says 'Hi' and the girl instantly wants to have a child with him, be prepared to wait quite a long time until romance really start picking up...

Oh, I forgot to say that the mc is basically a new person, the experience of his last life is coming back to him, but he is in no way, the same person he was back then. So, don't expect him to be an edgy lord, cold, merciless, decisive, and rational character out of nowhere, he is starting over from the beginning and will develop with time, although that doesn't mean he will be like that, as for the cover, I took it because later he will have a similar set of armor, however, this will take a really long time, it is something that he will need a certain level of power just to equip it, he was wearing it when he first arrived at this world, it is a soul biding equipment.

This story will be heavily inspired by the Kyoshi series of books, somethings will be canon, others not. You can consider this a half self-insert story, there will be a lot of non-canon places and original characters.

Have some idea about my story? Comment it and let me know.
