Chapter 1

December 26, Pegasus year 754 Normal POV

Happiness isn't the word Aera would use to express herself. More like joy. For she has had many miscarriages in the past, now there finally is a little kitsune. She was surprised to be having a girl for Sevas, her husband, wanted a boy so he could ascend the throne. A crowned princess is just as important as a prince. For she too will ascend to the throne.

As for her name, King Sevas will  choose. He is her father after all. There's a knock on the door and the kit is held closer. The door opens, there stands Sevas.

"Aera. Calm down. It's just me. How is he doing?" Sevas asks.

"She is doing just fine."

"A female heir? That's unexpected. I will have to have the tailor design new outfits for our little kit."

"You already told the staff?"

"I told the whole kingdom. They are estatic. They hadn't known the newborn would be a female. No one did.

But now, time for a name. I will name her Serafina. For it is a foreign translation for fire. She will make a great queen."

"That's a wonderful name. Would you like to hold her?" She asks.

"Of course." Aera hands her over to him.

"She has black and orange hair. Only very powerful kitsunes have two colors in their hair, don't they?" Sevas asks.

"I was once a very powerful kitsune, and I have a blue tint to my hair." Aera state.

Aera was a very powerful mage at one point in her life. She would adventure with her friends for they were nobles like she was.

Aera left that life behind to become a six tailed kitsune. She has blonde hair with a blue tint to it. After she got her fifth tail, her hair started to turn the shade it is now. It has been this way for seven years.

She came home from her adventures, to find that the crowned prince took interest in her. Aera was invited to the castle in Pergatory, Niami. He got to know her, she got to know him, and they fell in love with each other.

"Aera. Are you alright? You're looking pale." Sevas asks.

"Yes. Just tired. Can I be left alone with Serafina?" She  asks.

"Yes. Here she is."

"Thank you, sweetheart."

"Are you sure you want to be left alone?"

"Yes, I'm positive."

"Alright. I love you."

"Love you too." She says as he closes the door.

Sera will not be able to know her mother for she hasn't told anyone about my condition. Aera is dying. She has been coughing blood for months. It's almost time for her to leave the world. As she takes her final breath, she hears her daughter crying. Aera kisses the top her daughter's head.

"I'm glad I got to see you. If it was only for a short time. You will become a very powerful young woman who will lead this country to greatness." Aera says as she passes away.

Serafina starts bawling. Sevas runs in and sees Aera dead. He sees blood on his daughter's head, where Aera had kissed her. The blacksmith's wife was requested to create a necklace for the new kitsune and Sevas had come back to approve the design with Aera.

But it wasn't possible anymore. She was dead. He took the child before she would fall from her mother's loose grip and hugged her. Sevas was devastated for he had only one wife. It is said that the kitsune race could have multiple wives. Sevas didn't want many wives, he wanted his adventure-loving six tailed. But now she's gone forever.

"Captain! Get me Nurse Sadi! Right away!" Sevas shouts from inside the room.

"Yes, Your Majesty." She says through the door. Nurse Sadi comes into the room.

"I cannot raise her by myself, for I have a kingdom to rule. Take her to Aera's brother in the mountains, Sura. Serafina will need a mother figure in her life." Sevas commands.

"Yes, Your Majesty." Sadi says as he takes the babe.

I take Serafina to the town of Montagne. The trek there takes six days by carriage and twenty-four days by foot. After the 12th day, Serafina starts to get cold. But thanks to her mother Aera, she has magic and uses it to keep warm. How? She has fire magic. More precisely, fox fire.

"Queen Aera. How you miss so much with your only daughter." I say to myself. Due to the princess's warmth from her fox fire, I have been kept warm. When we arrive to Montagne, the poor girl has been suffering from hypothermia. Her magic has drained out of her, trying to keep us warm. As I run towards the manor I keep the baby close to my body.

"Help! She has hypothermia! She's going to die if she isn't helped!" I shout. The manor staff takes her and strips off the girl's clothing. I am sent to a room to change and take a warm bath.

After his bath, Sadi is sent to Sura and Taylar.

"I have to inform you that Queen Aera has died. Not from childbirth, but from a poison that is believed to kill the victim in a period of ten months. She gave birth knowing that she would not make it. I'm sorry I couldn't do anything for her. King Sevas has requested me to bring Serafina here for her sake and the king's. For he cannot raise a child that has magical capablities by his self. As a father and a magical kitsune you must understand."

"We will take her in on one condition. You must come back home as well as care for her, son." Sura says.

"Father. Mother. This was my only task. And it has taken me so long to be appreciated in the palace. So please. Let me go back."

"I will make a negotiation with the king, but it will not be easy. And you are going to stay here in the meantime."

"But... Of course."

"Good. I will make arrangements for your room to be prepared."
