Adeline glared at him, struggling to escape his grip. "Caesar, what are you talking about? I said I'd never leave you. Why are you being like this? You're hurting me, let-"
"Then why?" Caesar asked, breathing heavily. "If you aren't going to leave me, why did you fucking make that deal? Why did you?"
"Because I can win!" Adeline yelled at him, her chest rising and falling in heavy breathing. "Will you trust me this time around? I would never leave you, and that's the truth. I know the deal is risky, but I made it for a reason. I will win! Caesar, I. Will. Win," she emphasized with gritted teeth, wanting to etch that into his skull.
Caesar breathed, just staring at her face.
He was frustrated, and her words weren't enough to calm him down. Just the thought of her leaving him for a second snapped something inside of him, and he felt like he could suddenly lose his mind.
