Lucas POV

I was extremely excited, I meant my inner wolf was extremely excited. The moment I saw her was like mother nature had held up a heavenly elixir right to my face. At first, I had only smelled a fruity scent. But when I raised my eyes from the tray and glanced at her. I froze. I felt emotions for once. My numbed heart had melted and I just stared...we just stared.

We spoke for a bit until I had gotten a mental-message from my father. I was disappointed for having let time to be with her, but I knew she would come again. I left and went into my father's office.

"Lucas, son. I need you to take a group of our warriors and patrol our territory again. Your mother had one of her special sensings again."

"I'll go right now."

I said like a stone soldier and went to my room. I shifted, feeling numb to the usual pain of moving bones and muscle. I sent a mental-message to our warriors and we quickly left to patrol the edge of the territory. I went alone as the others separated in groups and left in an organised order. Afterwards, I went to the lake to rest and feel the nature around me. I usually do this every few days a week.

My ears twitched to the sound of human steps coming towards me. I froze again when the wind brushed the fruity scent towards my wolf nostrils. I remained laying in place as I saw her walk out from the bushes. She gasped at the lake and stars as she slowly walk towards me. She tripped over a large piece of wood and I quickly went to catch her fall with my large body. She stayed with me to look at the scenery until she asked me on how to get back to the pack house.

I stood up and walked her to my house. My sister, Avery, invited her to stay the night. But to my disappointment, she had decided to go home. Although I didn't mind, it was sad to see her go. I knew I could always see her again but the few hours away from her felt lonely and life seemed numb without her. I stayed up all night thinking about her. I could smell her fruity scent on me from awhile ago.

When it was five in the morning, I couldn't take it anymore and knocked on Avery's door. She opened it and I could tell she also didn't sleep. Her mate had broken her deep and she was having a hard time. She gave me a small smile as she wiped the tears off with the back of her hand.

"Hey what's up Lulu?"

She tried to joke and tease with my childhood nickname. Her smile was more like a grimace as she failed.

"Hey. How are you doing?"

I softly asked her, feeling horrible for her. She just shook her head.

"Elsie and I were going to meet up this afternoon. She had a plan and I don't really know what it is. Why don't you come?"

"Are you sure? You don't mind me being the third wheel between you girls?"

"Not at all. I could tell the connection you had with her. It's shocking that she was able to feel it so much which is very unlikely for humans to feel it so quickly."

"I thought so too… Well, why do you get ready? I'll take you and we can have breakfast together."

"Okay, thanks for being here for me Lulu."

"It's no problem. That's what brothers are for."

Although my tone was mono-ish as always, my pack had gotten used to it and they didn't think anything about my neutralness personality. They thought I wouldn't have a mate as I also had felt that mother nature didn't give me a mate. I didn't feel anything when I reached of age so I thought she had passed away or there wasn't a special someone for me. I didn't know how it feels for the lost of a mate when I had never met her to know what it was like.

Avery gave me directions as I drove to the meeting place. I parked the car and we walked to a place call "Essence". A cafe during the day time and a bar/club as night. I realized that this area was very diverse. Humans may not know but all the supernaturals here are not just one big specific group. It was obvious that this business was owned by a vampire. I stayed silent and followed Avery into the cafe.

"Welcome! What you kids like for this morning?"

An asian vampire waitress came to us and bubbly greeted.

"Good morning Ms. Fan. I'm here to wait for Elsie."

"Ah, one of my usuals. She rarely comes during during the morning, pitty."

Ms. Fan had replied with a pout.

"And who this?"

"I'm Lucas, Avery's older brother. Nice to meet you."

"Yes, yes. Welcome to Essence. Feel free to hang around."

She nicely told us. Avery got her usual caramel macchiato and I just got straight black coffee. She faked a gag as I ordered and paid for the both of us.
