This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things

Selena's footsteps echoed around as she and Killian went downstairs.

Since they left the room, she didn't talk, her lips were sealed while her body was still exhausted from last night.

She could feel Killian's hand on her shoulder but she shook it away and then turned her face to glare at him.

"What? You were hugging me last night so tightly so what's with the glare?" He pouted while his eyes were twinkling with a tease.

Selena blushed, she was used to Killian's playful remarks but, remembering last night has made her head explode.

She walked with big steps to leave him behind but, Killian walked at the same pace as her as if they were having a race.

When they reached the entrance of the convenient store, Selena turned to the old woman in the cashier and awkwardly smiled.

"Thank you for your help," she hesitated whether to call her grandma or what, she doesn't even know her name.

"Would you like to buy a scarf?" the old woman said after smiling at her.

Selena immediately rose an eyebrow, the old woman is indeed a businesswoman, she would sell anything just to earn money.

As she was about to refuse, Killian swiftly grabbed the scarf on the old woman's hand and wrapped it around her neck before she could even react.

The silk material brushed on Selena's skin, so soft and the smell was so sweet like it's been soaked in the barrel full of perfume.

With confusion on her face, Selena turned to look at Killian.

"I don't need it, Killian, it would be weird to a scarf, its 30 degrees outside," Selena barked at him.

Killian gave her a lopsided grin, then he stood behind her, face went closer to her ear and whispered, "Are you sure? Your neck is full of-" before he could finish, Selena turned to face him.

(!) Selena's eyes widened; their faces are too close, their lips almost brushed. She took a step back, and with her cheeks blushing with embarrassment she turned to the old woman.

Her lips parted with surprise, the old woman was staring at them with a wide smile on her lips, eyes twinkling with amusement.

"Let's go," Killian said.

When Selena felt his hand on her waist, her shoulder jumped. She bit her lips as she slapped his hand away.

"Hi, Grandma." A voice sounded after the door was opened.

Hearing the familiar voice, Selena looked at the door, her eyes widened seeing Alejandro with a running short and white shirt, he had earphones shoves in his ears while his face was soaked with sweat.

Selena's body frosts as she stared at Alejandro, she could still hear her voice when she asked him for a break up last night, though she didn't see his expression that night, the way he slammed his door tells her that he was hurting.

'Alejandro,' she murmured her name.

'What are you doing here? Isn't that the clothes you had yesterday?' saying that, Alejandro walked towards Selena. He wiped the beaded sweat on his forehead and stood in front of her.

His eyebrow creased, he was running today to release his emotion and seeing Selena has reminded him of the reason why he didn't sleep the whole night.

He stretched a hand to reach for her arm but Selena took a step back.

'I slept here, I am going now,' saying that, she rushed out of the convenient store, the last thing she wanted was for Alejandro to see the kiss marks on her neck, she has few on her arms but it's only visible if you look closer.

She walked with big steps on the side road, unlike yesterday the road was clear, the sky above was clear and right now, she could see how beautiful the place is.

There was a cold breeze blowing from the east, the quietness of the place allows her to hear the tree's leaves moving every time the wind blows but unlike the calm place, her heart and mind was so wrecked, no matter how hard she tried to breathe her heart was being gripped by a strong hand.

(What have I done?) regret filled her mind as she thought of her situation. Wondering how could she sleep with Killian hours after she broke up with his brother.

Meanwhile, back at the convenient store, the cold war has just started.

Two brothers standing opposite of each other had their eyes narrowed, one was with anger while the other was with a victory.

Killian smirked, he took the car keys from his pocket and tossed it to his brother.

'Here's your car key, I am not too greedy to take that too,' he laughed like a boy who had just won a fight, his feet walked towards the door and as he passed by Alejandro's figure, he smirked and whispered.

'Told you, I will steal her. Don't worry, this time, I am keeping her.'

Saying those with a victorious smile on his lips, Killian left his brother in the convenient store, both hands tightly clenching with anger.

Alejandro's face darkened, there was a pain throbbing his heart but, the anger exceeded it.

Alejandro pulled his phone from his arm and dialed a number.

He gulped hard, never once he thought of calling her, the woman that broke his brother's heart but, he wants to get Selena back so he decided to call the woman that can only move Killian.

The other line was answered after ringing twice, he stopped breathing for a moment when he heard the familiar voice.

"Katherine here, who's this?"

"Hi, its Alejandro," his eyes narrowed. Feet walked to leave the convenient store.

His head jerked on his left and found Selena's figure going nowhere while Killian was tailing her.

"Alejandro, what's with the call? I thought we won't be calling each other."

Katherine's voice was full of amusement and energy, unlike the last time he saw her. The woman with a bump on her stomach, petite body and pale face came to see him in the office to tell him the hideous secret his mother had been keeping from everyone. A secret that would destroy his mother.

That night, she came asking a favor, in exchange, she will keep the photos and shut her lips.

So, to save his mother's dignity, he helped her by killing his unborn nephew.

He doesn't know her reason for doing it, but he knows how much obsessed she was and still to Killian, but she's different, she like a beast in the wild, and even so, she's very possessive, she wants Killian to only want her but, refused to be locked with him.

This is the reason why he's calling her, knowing Katherine, she will fly back when she finds out that Killian is getting serious with another woman.

"I think my brother has finally gotten over you."

The other line went silence, and after some seconds Katherine let out a sigh.

"That's impossible, Killian never gets serious with a woman. We both know that." There was a confidence in her voice as she spoke, something Alejandro was expecting.

"I doubt that. He has been around her for a month but it's up to you. I just thought of calling you," he slightly distanced his phone from his ear, not bothering to hang up.

"Wait!" hearing that, he smiled and put the phone back on his ear.

"What is her name?"

"Selena but don't touch her Katherine. Don't hurt her."

A bitter laugh rang from the other line, "So, you are the same Alejandro as before. Tsk, don't worry I won't touch her."

And the phone call ended. Guilt was gripping Alejandro's heart, he gulped hard, swallowing all the guilt down to his throat.
