Chapter 72: Wait, Come Back!

Jay stepped onto the stage, sizing up his opponent. Although his original plan was to forfeit right away, but there was rage and excitement building inside him after the previous fights. His opponent was a samurai looking man from Edo. He was wearing full plated armor, with a katana that was hanging on his hip. "Begin," the referee announced. The samurai greeted Jay, treating him as a respectful opponent. Edo was not in a good position right now, they were almost at the bottom, only ahead of Babylon by a couple of points.

Looking at the katana on the samurai's waist, Jay wanted to see if he could try to copy some of the techniques that they have. The samurai noticed that Jay wasn't going to attack first, so he pulled out a plain looking bow. As he pulled the bowstring, Jay could hear the bow creak. The whole bow was trembling under the immense pressure. As he let go, the arrow instantly shot fowards with incredible speed. "It's over, I thought that he would put up more of the fight," the samurai thought, seeing that Jay couldn't probably react in time. There was also no mana fluctuation, meaning that he haven't started to chant or cast any sort of spell.

The arrow shot towards Jay, aiming straight for the heart. The arrow would have been lethal to almost everyone maybe only with the exception of Vlad and Arthur. But with Wild Instinct activated, the possibilities of being hit by a projectile with almost no area of effect was slim to none. Jay easily caught the arrow with his bare hands, snapping it in half. The friction from catching with arrow caused his hand to temporarily catch on fire. Patting out the fire, Jay said, "Impressive." The crowd fell silent, not understanding what just happened. Watching from the audience stand, Louis sighed, "Show off." The samurai's jaw swung wide open, he had never even dreamt of someone catching his arrow.

"I admit defeat," he said, forfeiting the battle. "That's not what I had in mind!" shouted Jay in his heart. He wanted to provoke the samurai to attack him with his katana, he didn't think that the samurai would just give up so easily. He slowly got off the stage, sad because he didn't get the chance to witness the techniques of wielding the katana. "Well I guess things don't always go as planned," he sighed. If the samurai knew what was on Jay's mind, he would probably hang himself.

"Next round, Clint from Corinth and Seti from The Nile," the referee announced. Clint was the name of one of the followers of the third prince. Although he was considered weak when compared to the elites of Class Black, he was still pretty impressive, being able to cast tier three spells with ease. Before he entered the stage, the third prince came up to him. "My father ordered me to win this competition, so you better win," he ordered. "Begin!" the referee signaled. Clint instantly began to cast, chanting a surprisingly long chant. Seti just stood there, watching Clint cast his spell. His eyes were filled with pride and disdain, looking down on Clint like he was a real Pharoah, looking at his people. "Lightning Viper!" shouted Clint, finishing his cast. Lighting Viper, a tier three spell that was on par with a weak tier four spell, it was powerful but also took quite a long time to cast. Luckily, his opponent just stood there, looking at him like he was just a mere ant. Two purple snakes that were made out of electricity shot towards Seti, sending sparks everywhere as moved.

Just before the spell managed to strike Seti, he waved his hands. A plain looking sarcophagus, a stone coffin, appeared out of nowhere, absorbing the spell completely. Clint was shocked, that spell took quite a bit of mana to successfully cast, but was easily dispelled by a ancient coffin. The sarcophagus opened, and what walked out caused Louis to tremble with fear. It was the mummy-like humanoid, completely resembling the one in his dreams. Not caring about his image, he shouted loudly, "Forfeit right away!" "What's the matter?" Jay asked. "Can't you hear me? Forfeit right away if you want to live!" Louis screamed again, ignoring Jay's question. "Continue to fight. Don't listen to Louis," the third prince ordered, thinking that Louisbwas panicking for no reason.

Circe, watching from the sidelines, instantly figured out the reasons behind Louis's abnormal behavior. "I advise you that you should listen to him," Circe said, suggesting to Clint that he should surrender. Although a part of him wanted to surrender because of the weird aura radiating from the mummy, the prince's orders were absolute if he wanted to survive in the kingdom. Seeing that Clint decided to continue, Circe shook her head, disappointed. Louis gave up, closing his eyes as he didn't want to witness the scene from his dreams unfold in front of him. "What is that?" Jay asked Malum telepathically. "A bona-fide mummy, probably one created from the corpse of a real Pharoah. That boy must be someone very important if he gets to use such a powerful being," Malum explained.

The mummy walked slowly towards Clint with slow but heavy steps. "Lightning," repeatedly casted Clint, firing at the mummy with everything he got. But the spells were either dispersed or absorbed when they came into contact with the mummy. Clint's eyes began to slowly fill up with despair as the mummy walked closer and closer, as if death was slowly inching towards him. Giving in to the pressure, Clint opened his mouth. But just before he could announce his defeat, the ground in front of him turned into a sharp spike, impaling him. He fell to the ground with a large in his chest. He still tried to surrender, but he choked on his blood. He laid on the ground as death loomed over him. The mummy walked right in front of him, grabbing his face. It was just like hitting the replay button from Louis's dream, everything was happening exactly as his dream.

Clint was held up high by the mummy, as a ominous aura gathered around the mummy. The audience watched in horror as Clint quickly dried up into a human-jerky, slowly turning into dust. A breeze passed by, bring the remains of Clint along with it. The ashes scattered in the wind, marking the death of a potential powerful magus. "I knew this would happen! I was powerless to stop it! This isn't a blessing, it's a curse. Why do I need to see the end without having the power to change anything?" Louis shouted towards the sky, letting out his regret. Jay held him in his arms, trying to comfort the unstable Louis. "It wasn't your fault, you already did your best to stop it. It was Clint's own choice," said Jay, patting Louis on the back as he comforted him. Tears of regret and powerlessness streamed down Louis's face, dripping to the ground. The sky rumbled with thunder, as if it was feeling Louis's pain. "It's alright, everything will be alright," said Jay, tightening his embrace around Louis.

"Now we will announce the current rankings," the referee said.
