Retched Trust

"Hows it going Kai." Karla asked as he walked up to her.

"I'm doing fine I guess," Kai sighed.

The lizardman mothers gave Kai a nasty side eye just like everyone else. Kai decided to ignore it. He had realized at this point that many of the lizardman children in general never had any anger toward Kai. Maybe because they were too young to know what he did. They ranged from just 6 month old babies to 9 year olds that were like 5 feet tall. Kai wasn't that tall. He was 5"9, a pretty average height for his age of 17.

"Karla," Kai inquired.

She sat on the ground and looked at him. "Yeah, what is it?"

"I forgot to ask," he said. "How did you get captured?"

"I was picking berries in the rainforest, and they captured me to get eaten by that huge dark green lizardman that you killed."

"This rainforest!?" Kai exclaimed. "There are way too many monsters in there, how did you not get eaten by them?"

"My parents taught me survival tips."

"Survival tips? That's all?"

"Yep."

"Gah, whatever."

It was a bit strange how of all thing she could've died to in this rainforest, it would be the stupid dark green lizardman and some of the guards that Kai incinerated easily. He wanted to ask questions like how long she had been doing it, but he was tired of being social.

Now that Kai thought of it he hadn't seen the lizardman he first met. All he remembered was falling to the ground from the sky above the protective barrier with him. He guessed the lizardman was in some kind of infirmiry that was still operating from falling that height. Kai was alright somehow. It might've had something to do with his gold tipped robe. Maybe it was made of some kind of really magical material? He had no clue.

It became dusk. The wind blew at Kai's brown hair.

One of the lizardman children got out of their mothers grasp. He ran right over to Kai and started jumping up and down.

Kai was surprised and he step back a bit. But the lizardman kid followed. He was darker green with amber eyes, and he looked about 5. He had a really muscular body for some reason. His tail was swinging back and forth and his tongue was flicking too.

"Hey mister!" The little lizardman exclaimed. "Can I touch that fluffy stuff on your head?"

"Ooooh, I think he likes you" Karla interjected.

Kai pointed at his head. "You mean my hair?"

This was a very strange experience for Kai. He had no clue what to think, but maybe this was a way to earn their trust.

"Haha, thats a funny word fo-"

The lizardman mom ran up and grabbed him and walked back to where all the other lizardman moms were resting behind Karla.

Karla looked at the lizardman mom. "Don't worry, he won't do anything to your child. He regrets what he did. Just let your child have fun."

Kai looked at Karla with a slightly annoyed face. It was like he was internally screaming to her; "Why must you put me through this? I'm not good with kids!"

"A-are you sure?" The mother asked.

"I am the surest of sure!" Karla said loudly.

"O-okay, I guess I could let him run a bit."

She let the child go, and he ran straight to Kai again.

The child started jumping up and down at his feet.

"Up! Up!" He pleaded. "I want to touch the fluffy hair thing!"

"Yeah no thank-"

Karla's angry gaze interrupted what he was going to say. If felt like he was going to get hit by a lazer beam. He never knew a young girl like Karla could make a glare like that.

"I-I mean, yeah sure!" Kai said enthusiastically and sarcastically.

"Yay!"

He just bent down and let the child pet his head, because he didn't trust himself holding him.

His sharp claws streamed threw Kai's hair. Which hurt a bit.

"Wooooah!" Its super super fluffy!"

His tail was wagging more than ever.

Kai looked all happy on the outside, but the inside it was a different story.

"How could I become a fucking petting zoo!" He internally screamed. But there was absolutely nothing he could do about it. It was one step closer to earning their trust though. He could eventually build a Kingdom of his own when he conquered enough land, and it order to do that, he needed to keep civil unrest low. But right now he wanted to stay mostly anonymous. He was sure 1 small village being taken over wouldn't cause too much uproar, but he was ready for whatever else would come his path.
