Escape

As Kai stepped out of the jailcell and yawned while stretching his arms. "Maaaaan, that was way too easy."

He sighed. "Maybe it's best if I don't get too cocky though."

He's seen karma before in his village. It's his only real superstition.

Outside his cell was just a big room made out of stone, dimly lit by candles sitting on installed ledges. There was a door at the front of the room, most likely leading to the exit.

"M- Mister," Karla whispered. She was still in the cell sitting on the bed. "How did you do that?"

Kai turned to face her and smiled. "Let's just say it's a secret."

She looked down at the ground.

"O-okay."

Kai gestured at her to come over to him.

"Let's get out of here."

"Okay."

Kai opened the huge double doors at the front of the room and went up stairs. Karla followed. They felt like they were going up stairs forever.

"Who knows where this staircase leads to," Kai thought to himself.

When they finally reached the end, they saw a trap door. Kai felt it for the handle since it was still pretty dark.

"There we go," He said. He was a bit nervous to open the door, it could be a death trap of some sort after all, but he did it anyways.

When he opened the trapdoor, he winced at the bright sun and the blue sky. When his eyes got aquainted with the increase of brightness, he realized a bunch of lizardman children were staring at him. They all stared at Kai and Karla with wide eyes.

"Yeaaaaaah, maybe we should find another way out." Kai whispered. He slowly closed the trapdoor and sighed. "Why the fuck does the trapdoor lead to outside?"

Karla punched Kai straight in the gut.

"AUUUGHH," Kai grumbled. "Why?"

Karla pointed at him. "Do you really think closing the door will do anything? Theres no other way out!"

Kai rubbed his stomach in pain. She totally ignored his rhetorical question, but what was he expecting.

"Yeah, yeah," He rolled his eyes and scoffed.

He opened the trapdoor back up.

"Stay there!" A dark green lizardman hissed and pointed his spear at Kai and Karla. He was wearing silver armor, and his eyes were glowing red like rubies. "Don't move an inch or i'll skewer you!"

Karla ducked out of sight.

It was like the lizardman guards just teleported there. It really pissed Kai off.

"Pshhht," Kai rolled his eyes. "Skewer my ass."

The lizardman thrusted his spear even closer to Kai and scraped his neck a little drawing some blood.

Kai's eyes widened a bit. Not from fear, but from concentration and thought on how to kill the lizardman guard in the most painful way possible.

"Say one more thing, and I'll kill you for real!" The lizardman shouted. "Now, you and that little human girl step out and put you hands up."

Kai grumbled. He lifted the trapdoor all the way and signaled for Karla to follow.

Although he was mad, he was also excited for some action, pretty much getting a chance to use cosmic magic because it was so fun.

He stepped onto a gravel road. 5 more lizardman guards entered his sight. They all were a lighter green from the first lizardman.

Kai looked around, the houses around him were all made out thatch or built into the bountiful trees around him. The village didn't seem that bad in itself.

The jail he was locked in was more like an underground bunker though, which made him even more mad for some reason. It felt like the lizardman weren't taking him seriously.

"Maybe they just don't deal with prisoners often?" He thought to himself to calm down.

He realized that he somehow forgot about the spear he had again and felt his back, but it wasn't there. He sighed.

He decided to say nothing to not bring up to much suspicion.

"Don't move and put your hands up!" The dark green lizardman yelled.

Kai's face wrinkled as he followed the lizardman's directions. An audience of lizardman were gathering around Kai and Karla. He could here mutters badmouthing him such as "Why do these worthless human still walk the earth, they should all be sold in slavery!" Or "I hate these lowly human scum walking on our land."

Karla looked mortified. Kai was pretty sure anyone would be mortified in a situation like this.

He decided to keep a level head. He wanted to surprise them at the least expected moment.
