Kai stood outside surveying the damage he had caused to the lizardman village. The acrid smell of smoke hung in the air as little fires continued to burn amongst the charred remains of humble dwellings. Though he tried to maintain a stern demeanor, regret pulled at his heart.
Karla came up beside him, her eyes also taking in the destruction. "This is what happens when you let anger cloud your judgement," she said softly.
Kai remained silent, jaw clenched. She was right of course. He had allowed his emotions to get the better of him, blinded by memories of past pains inflicted by others of the lizardmen kin. But these villagers were innocent. He had no evidence they had anything to do with his family's disappearance or his capture. Hell, the lizardman that captured him were dressed completely different from these lizardman. These lizardman had only been trying to live simple lives, until he brought fiery ruin upon them.
Karla placed a hand gently on his arm, turning him to face her. "The past cannot be undone," she said, "But the future awaits. Help these people rebuild their lives, and maybe you'll find the redemption you seek."
Kai nodded slowly. "I will make amends for this wrongdoing eventually."
"But stop trying to act like you're so noble," he added.
"Yeah sure," Karla smiled. "But the important thing is that you're trying."
"You still are acting noble, stop."
"Im not."
"You are."
"Im not, what are you talking about."
"You are."
"Just shut up."
Kai chuckled. "Maybe to earn their trust we should help though."
Karla nodded her head. "Makes sense," she said. She looked around at the town in turmoil. "But it's going to take a while to completely earn it, thats for sure."
"It'll come in no time, trust me."
"I don't think I can trust you with that."
"Whatever."
Together they went to join the lizardmen villagers who were working to salvage their homes. Though wary at first, the reptilian people soon saw that Kai was sincere in his efforts to help. It would take time to fully earn their trust, but this was the first step on a better path.
He used nebula to reconstruct fragments of the houses. It was really all he could do. He was still curious about what other "Primordial magic elements" there were. The voice said there were six in total, and Kai was one of them.
But now that he thought about it, time would be one of the elements. He got that thought after wishing he could turn time back to revert all these buildings to glory.
"I wish I got that ability if it was one of the Primordial Elements." He muttered to himself. It would definitely make his life a lot easier. Now he was stuck with cosmic magic, in which all he can do is destroy crap it looked like.
He stretched and looked into the distant setting sun, which felt so close at the same time. He felt a really strong connection to it. It was like he could ask it any question he had, and it would answer.
By now, all the fire was put out, and many of the tree dwellings were charred along with the buildings.
He noticed a lizardman a few hundred feet away from him struggling to lift a huge wooden plank.
Kai came up to him. He was a lighter green with blue eyes and sharp claws. He had a pretty muscular body, but the plank was still too big to lift for him.
"Do you need some help?" Kai asked.
The lizardman shifted his gaze away from Kai. He flicked his tail in annoyment.
Kai totally understood why the lizardman were mad, and in the end it really was his fault. He did indeed feel bad. And he was starting to understand the damage he had done the them.
"I'll take that as a yes."
Kai used nebula to lift the plank in the air. "Where do you want me to put it?" He asked.
"Just set it standing in the ground, we are going to rebuild the building."
"Sure." Kai replied. He set the plank in the ground standing and made sure to secure it so it wouldn't topple it over. "You know, I was wondering if this village was controlled by a Kingdom."
It was a thought that Kai suddenly had. He did not want to create an enemy of a whole empire. That would certainly end in his death at the strength he was at now.
"No, we are a large hunter gatherer tribe, called the Kowxlincui."
Kai sighed in relief. "Alright thank you."
It was kind of a strange name, but who was he to judge. He turned around and began to walk over to Karla who was staying with the lizardman moms.
The lizardman fixing the buildings were giving him bad looks as he walked towards Karla. Kai scoffed. He was getting a bit pissed at all the criticism. Even if it was rightfully so. It made him happier to remember that he controls this village now. There was no backlash after he announced that. They all were occupied with getting rid of the fires anyway. But now word has spread everwhere that Kai controls the village, and the small amount of hunters that they had as their "army" were scared shitless when that explosion happened from Kai's solar wind, so he guessed there would be no revolts in the very near future.
