Interrogation?

A while later, Lane opened her eyes slowly remembering that she was knocked unconscious. She tried to move but found out that she was tied to a chair with rope. She looked at around and saw Marsh sitting unconscious on another chair tied as well with only pants on him. Then only she noticed that she was also in pant and Tee. Her uniform was removed when she was unconscious. They were in a dark basement with light falling on them. She tried to see if the knots were loose, and she could free herself, but a voice came from the dark tending her to freeze.

"Ah, so you woke up", an image came out from the dark sitting on an office chair. "I thought he would wake up first", Wolf said smiling.

"Untie us you bastard", Lane cursed. "If I had to do that, why would I tie you in the first place?". Wolfe asked jokingly but next moment put on a serious face and said, "You will tell me what the hell is going on in the world and maybe I'll free you".

Lane cursed again, "Go to hell".

"Really! This is hell! Don't you see what's happening out there? Man is killing man. Soldiers are killing civilians. And you guys are tracking me taking me God knows where. Why? Just tell me already. I promise I'll let you guys go".

Lane said while still trying to free her hand, "Why would I trust you?".

"I don't know. You shouldn't. I could just be like you guys. A backstabber who couldn't wait a bit and tried to knock me unconscious from behind", Wolfe said.

"We had orders. We don't defy orders", she replied agitatedly. "...just tell me who you are working for. Where were you taking me? What do you know about me?", Wolfe asked calmly again but the answer was just silence.

"Ugh... what. what is this?", and Marsh woke up, finding himself tied on the chair, tightly. He looked around and saw Lane tied to his side and Wolfe sitting in front, smiling at him.

"You bastard. Untie me right now". He said angrily but soon felt pain on his cheek and remembered that he was bit by a walker. "Oh no! I got bit. I got infected", he screamed with agony and fear. Wolfe was still smiling at him. Marsh looked at him and suddenly made a face like he knew how he can live.

"Captain Wolfe. Help me. I'll tell you everything you want to know. I don't want to become those mindless infected beings. They will kill me". Wolfe was surprised. Marsh was begging him to help him right now. "Tell me everything you know, and I will save you", Wolfe offered.

"Yes. Yes.", But before starting to say anything, he looked at Lane and then at me trying to tell me something. "Oh... I got it", said Wolfe after noticing that there was an extra pair of ears listening to the duo. He got behind her and hit her neck knocking her unconscious yet again.

"Now tell me. What do you know about me?", Wolfe asked.

"I first saw you in Afghanistan. You were newly commissioned officer at the time. You were the talk among many senior officers. They used to call you a soldier of great value. I first thought that they said that because you were great in everything but only found out later that you were very helpful in pinning the enemy bases and camps of the terrorist groups in Afghanistan. With your help, army attacked many bases and killed many terrorists, strengthening our hold in Afghanistan. And you were promoted due to your incredible contribution. You came under my command at the time and served under me for almost a year. Then one day we received a mission to rescue some researcher that was held captive by the terrorists and was forced to build something for them. You took the charge of rescuing the man. We were successful in ambushing the enemy and entered their hideout successfully, but they had suicide bomber inside who blew the place up. You came in front of the researcher to protect him. You were in critical condition when he said that he could save you. He pulled his connections and took you for his patient. You got saved by him you see. Unfortunately, he is dead now. He died in the helicopter crash", Marsh finished.

"Are you talking about dr. Kurt?", Wolfe asked, and he nodded. "Now save me. Please. I told you everything I knew about you", he pleaded. "Alright, but one more question. What do you know about the pandemic? and why is army killing civilians?", Wolfe asked.

"They are calling it wildfire virus. It has spread worldwide. People become crazy insane and aggressive after being infected. They attack others and bite causes the spread of infection. They don't die if not shot on head either. That's all I know. High command has ordered us to clear the infected. That's why soldiers are visiting hospitals in major cities to eliminate any patient that could be infected. I brought my company here and ordered the cleanup of the hospital. While we were searching for you in the meantime". Marsh finished.

"Do you know they are killing those who are not infected too?", Wolfe asked calmly.

"Orders were, those who resist the cleanup can also be shot down", he answered.

"That's so sick", Wolfe said with a disappointed face.

"Now, please save me. They said you were the answer", Marsh begged desperately.

"What?", what he heard was just unbelievable to his ears. 'I am the answer? what is he saying', "What do you mean?", Wolfe asked.

"I don't know but they said that you were tested with the virus, and you were immune to it. The researchers were working on finding the cure with the help your body", Marsh said. His complexion was not looking good at all and was revealing the desperation.

Wolfe stopped interrogating any further. "Alright. So how do I help you?", he asked.

"Your blood. That must be the answer. Let me drink your blood. It might kill the infection", he spoke insanely. "Or I might get infected, and you must be lying about me being immune", Wolfe said.

"What? I told you. That's what they said. They said you were immune. They didn't want the information to spread so they included me in the secret and asked me to bring you back. I told you the truth. You are immune to the bite. Now, cure me as you said".

"Are you insane why would I let you bite me?", Wolfe asked.

"Pour your blood in a glass then", a voice came from their side, and they saw that the female was conscious and was actually listening to them this whole time. Wolfe put his surprise aside and thought how insane it was.

"If you are the cure, then you have the responsibility of coming with us. You can save many lives", she said.

"I know. I know. Wait here". Wolfe went out and brought a knife and glass.

He cut his palm and blood poured from it and filled the glass. He picked the glass from other hand and brought it near the face of Marsh to allow him to drink. Marsh instantly drank all the blood. Wolfe then turned around to put the glass down in a table but at that instant, the woman lunged at him from behind, snatching the knife from his bloodied hand and hitting the hilt in his temple knocking him down. She had feigned unconsciousness to remove his eyes from her while she cut the rope with a pin in her pant.

"Good job, Lane. Untie me and let's get out of here", Marsh was excited with this progress while looking at the fallen Wolfe. "I'll kill this motherfucker", he said in anger.

"No, you won't", Lane said, "You've been bit. You will turn into an infected soon".

"What bullshit are you spouting. I drank the cure. I drank his blood. Didn't you see. You said it yourself, that drinking his blood will...", Marsh said in anger but was interfered by Lane.

"I lied. An infection can't be cured by drinking someone's blood. We would have to build vaccines for that". This made Marsh lose ground beneath his feet.

"This means...", Marsh blabbered, but Lane completed, "that you will soon turn into an infected. So, I have to clean you", and soon she picked the gun from her things and aimed at Marsh.

"No... what are you doing? Untie me. I am your senior off...", and she offed his life. A bullet through his head. Then she looked down. The man looked like a sleeping baby to her. She aimed the gun at his head, brought it close to him and said, "Don't you dare move".

"Hehe...", a smile crept in Wolfe's face as he opened his eyes relaxedly and looked at her face with a wide smile. She was staring at him without any expression.

"You killed your superior", Wolfe said playfully.

"He was infected", she replied.

"Nice excuse", Wolfe said.

"Stand up, and don't do anything foolish. Move towards the wall. Hands in the back", she instructed him as he followed. She successfully handcuffed him.

"So, why did you kill him?", he asked. But got no reply.

"Alright, your silence tells me something was there", he mocked her to get a reaction which never came.

"Start moving out", she said. "And don't try to be over smart. I will shoot without blinking". Wolfe nodded his head. They climbed up and walked out of the shop. Others were looking for them a little far away.

"Hey, we were looking for you everywhere. Huh? Where did Captain go?", Swift asked Lane.

"He got bit. I had to shoot him. He knocked me down. I handcuffed him", Lane quickly gave the summary.

"So he got bit due to this bastard huh?", Swift said and instantly launched his fist on Wolfe's face. Blood dripped from his mouth.

"What are you doing? We have to get him to the camp now. The infected are coming. Let's go", another soldier whose name on his uniform read Nichols said. They started going back as Swift kept an eye on Wolfe, "Bastard".

When they reached their jeep, they saw Private first-class Gill in troubled. He saw them approaching and hurriedly said, "I can't contact the camp".

Nichols said, "Did you not repair it properly?".

"I have repaired it. But no one is responding", Gill responded. "It's because of this bastard", Swift said and slapped Wolfe, Wolfe who had his hands cuffed couldn't do anything but looked at him straight.

"This bastard...", Swift tried to swing his hand again, but Nichols stopped him.

"Stop it Swift, we need to leave and check out the post. Let's go. We'll find out after we reach there". Nichols had picked up the leadership of the group and sat beside the driver. Others sat behind the jeep with Wolfe bring cuffed to the jeep, so he won't try to run again. As they were going, Lane brought out her kit and started cleaning Wolfe's wounded palm. Wolf looked at her amusingly.

"So, you were a medic", Lane didn't reply and continued bandaging him but a little roughly now. "Ouch...", Wolfe said laughing. Everyone was tensed except him.
