Chapter 8 - Showing Dominance

Lux came to the academy ground after leaving the class.

"Hey Lux wait for me !"

He heard someone voice from behind and saw it was Yvette.

"What can I do for you princess",said Lux with a slight smile.

"You thought about what we had talked in the principal's office. And it's Yvette not princess".

"Oh! About being your magic training partner. Tell me princess why do you want me as your partner"

"Because of my intuition", Yvette said.

"intuition?What do you mean by that"Lux was about to question her more when someone from behind called him.

"Hey commoner you were talking very boldly in the class"Lux look behind and saw it was the same boy who was trying to taunt him in the class.

"Oh if it isn't our daddy's boy !"Lux said with a slight smirk.

"You said that I can come at you after the class is over, so here I am",the boy said.

"Oh you want to have a go, But the academy forbids anyone from fighting among students", Lux said.

"You don't have to worry about that we will be having a dual. The academy permits dual among students. You dare to accept the challenge?,the boy said in a haughty tone.

"Now what would I get by having a dual with a daddy's boy.'Lux said.

"What ! You afraid now?,the boy said with a disgusted look.

"Afraid? Ha ha ha you think too highly of yourself. I am just not motivated to fight you without any benefit."

"So I purpose let's have a bet", said Lux.

"Bet ? What kind of bet?", the boy asked.

"We will both bet money. Whoever wins get the money.", Lux said to the boy.

"Money ? Do you even have money to bet with me how much do you want to bet ", the boy said.

"How about 5 jade coins" said Lux.

"What 5 jade coins !" the boy was startled.

5 jade coins was not a small money. It was equal to 500 gold coins. Mostly only high noble families have jade coins.

The nobles are divided into three rank -

Lower Rank Nobles - these nobles have their estate and have mostly some shop or any other facility for their income.

Middle Rank Nobles - these nobles have their estates and a small piece of land for them to cultivate.

Upper Rank Nobles - these nobles rule over their territories provided by the Kingdom of Lucidonia. They also have a high position in Royal Military.

The boy's name is David and his family is Middle Rank Nobles , so he has some jade coins.

He took out 3 jade coins and 200 gold coins and stared at Lux

"Fine let's have the bet but do you even have the money to show", David said to Lux.

"You don't have to worry about that", Lux said befor turning to Yvette.

"Yvette give me 500 gold coins. I will give it back to you after defeating him,"Lux said to her.

"You really are shameless huh. But if you want the money you have to become my magic partner",she said to him.

Lux was really wondering what's her goal for having him as his partner but he still decided to agree to it.

"Fine I will be your magic partner", Lux said to her.

"Really. I am happy. Here your money" Yvette said to him with a big smile while handing him the money.

Seeing her smile Lux had only one word in his mind - beautiful.

That smile which she showed was a pure smile unlike other time when she had a smile on her face.

"Then wait for me to take care of that"Lux said while pointing at David.

Seeing the princess smile at Lux David jealously soared as he decided in his mind to beat Lux ruthlessly to a pulp in the dual.

They both get to the arena where a platform is placed in the middle.

They both sign the dual contract.

The instructor who was overseeing the dual said," The dual will end when one party either admit defeat or are unable to fight. Understand?"

""Yes""both Lux and David said at the same time.

Before arriving at the platform Lux give the Fate slayer sword at his back to Yvette and also his bag to her and asked her to look after them for him.

He arrived at the arena .

"Start" , the instructor shouted.

As the voice fell David start his incantation.

He is a 5 star adept mage . His element is water.

As he was finishing his incantation Lux coat his feet with wind element. After having his physique toughen his coating of elements over his body is strong.

He had to admit the David has some talent as he finished the incantation quickly and fired a water ball at him. It was a rank 1 spell .

Lux dodged the water ball and he take some time to use his spell.

He didn't want anyone to know yet that he can use wordless magic.

After dodging the water ball he dashed towards the boy with his feet coated with wind element. His speed was faster than before.

He arrived in front of boy quickly and before David could react he use his rank 2 spell thunder-shock .

Since David is element is water he is weak against lightning element.

David whole body was stunned by the shock. He was paralyzed where he stood.

This was the effect of rank 2 spell which can cause paralysis.

Before anyone could say anything Lux coat his fist with lightning element and punched at his face

Boom!!

The sound rang out and David was flown out arena and slam into the nearest wall.

His face is a mass with smoke coming out of his body.

"The winner is Lux" the instructor was startled but he announced the result.

Most of the people were dumbfounded. They know that Lux had beaten a boy who was adept 4 star mage but that was because he attacked him suddenly before the boy react.

They were surprised about how he easily defeated a adept 5 star mage.

"What's his cultivation?"

"He He's only a adept 3 star mage", the instructor said .

Hearing this everyone was dumbfounded again. Only adept 3 star mage. How can this be.

David friend go to him and pick him up.

"You don't have to be that ruthless to do that to his face" one of David's friend told Lux.

"Yeah how can you be that ruthless. His family is middle rank noble", another one said

"Why I punch him in the face is because I don't like him yapping too much about his daddy s money. That would shut him up for some time. And it's a dual and in a dual anything can happen. So you should immediately bring him to the infirmary or he would not be able to use his daddy money for some time." Lux said to them with a smirk.

They got enraged but still decided to take David to the infirmary.

After that Lux take his prize money and went to Yvette.

"Here's your money",he said giving her the money he borrowed.

"You can keep that" she said.

"No I don't like having favours from anyone", he said.

"It's fine it's not a favour. Since you are my magic training partner now and you have shown me a good show you can take this as an entertainment money"she said to him returning the money.

"Fine then if that's the case", Lux said as he will never say no to free money.

"How about we have a celebration for becoming a team", Yvette said.

"Yeah we can do that. Where do you want to go", Lux asked her.

"Lets go to a restaurant in the evening. You should treat me with the money you won", Yvette said to him smiling

"Why do I have to treat you", Lux also said with a smile.

"What you have to treat a beauty to a meal. It's common courtesy." Yvette teasingly told him.

"Ok ok."Lux cleared his throat and with a gentlemanly bow and extending his hand he said to her," May I have the honor to invite this beauty to a meal tonight

"Oh my what a gentleman !", Yvette said.

"You may have the honor", she said while taking his hand.

"Well then I will wait for the beauty at the front of the academy gate tonight. See you there", Lux said to her and left after saying goodbye.

"See you there Mr. gentleman"Yvette said and also left.

They both were preparing for tonight. But both of them didn't know yet that it was going to be an eventful night
