Chapter 5

After a very long discussion with Mary about how to properly parent, John decides to go apologize to Sam. Yes, the infamous John Winchester is about to apologize to Sam. It probably seems it of character for him, but he isn't the monster people make him out to be. He used to be a great guy, actually. It was just the loss of his wife that messed him up. That was when things went south for him. Now that she's back, he has decided to fix his errors. Starting, of course, with their youngest son.

He quietly knocks on Sam's door which he can find because reasons. When he doesn't get a response, he hesitates before slowly opening it. He finds Sam and Gabriel lying together on the bed (fully clothed. Oh my Chuck, guys, get your mind out of the gutter.) Sam is snuggled up to the angel as he sleeps. His head rests on his boyfriend's chest, his arm wrapped around Gabriel's torso. Gabriel is lying with him, a small smile on his face as he gazes down at the moose.

He looks up when he hears the door open and puts a finger to his lip as a signal for John to be quiet before pointing to the sleeping boy. John nods once before slowly backing away, not wanting to interrupt what they're doing. He can't deny the fact that they look adorable together. Sure, Gabriel is a guy, but they look so cute, he can't bring himself to decide that they can't be together. It was clear in Gabriel's eyes as he watched the sleeping boy in a not-Edward-Cullen way that he loves him. Who's John to stop that?

"Hey, Cas," Dean greets the angel, who's awkwardly standing against the wall.

"Hello, Dean," Castiel replies in his low voice of his that drives Dean wild.

"How are you doing?" Dean asks.

"I'm doing fine. How are you? It can't be easy, with your father back."

"I'm more concerned about the three archangels," Dean replies with a glance at Lucifer, who's for some reason talking to Charlie.

"I don't think you have to worry about them," Castiel assures him. "Gabriel and Sam seem... Close. He wouldn't do anything to risk ruining their relationship. It appears Michael is attempting to make amends, which is nice as well. Lucifer, on the other hand..."

"We just have to hope he won't do anything too bad," Dean replies. It's hard to not kill the angel, but unfortunately, Chuck said they can't, and Dean would rather not be on God's bad side.

"I can't guarantee that," Castiel replies. "He likely will just to spite our father."Dean frowns. As much as he hates that idea, he knows it's probably true.

After a well deserved nap, Sam finally wakes up. He opens his eyes to be met with the beauty that is those of Gabriel's. Gabriel smiles at the boy; the most beautiful thing Sam has ever seen. He missed this over the last few years. It's so nice to have it back.

"'Morning," Gabriel greets him.

"How long was I asleep for?" Sam asks groggily.

"Twelve hours, give or take," Gabriel replies.

"Seriously? And you didn't wake me up?"

"You looked like you needed it. When was the last time you slept for more than four hours at a time?"

"I don't know," Sam admits.

"What's been keeping you up, anyway?" Gabriel asks curiously.

Sam shrugs, not sure how to answer. Should he say the stress of the job? Or the research he had to do to find Lucifer? Or the worry of what might happen to his mother while he isn't around? Sleep just doesn't come with the hunter package. Fortunately, not only are all these problems resolved, but he also has Gabriel back, which is more than he ever could have asked for.

"What time is it?" Sam asks with a yawn.

"Like four-ish, I think," Gabriel replies. "Seriously? That's way too early to get out of bed."

"We won't be the only two up," Gabriel reminds him. "None of the other angels or demons sleep."

"Oh, true," Sam agrees. "Alright, let's get up."

"'Kay," Gabriel agrees, waiting for Sam to stand up before he does. He was actually enjoying lying here with the boy, but he figured it wouldn't be as fun for the hunter himself.

They walk back to the war room, where Castiel is looking awkward while talking to Meg, John and Lucifer are playing poker with Crowley watching, and Michael is being an awkward wallflower. Why John is awake so early, they'll never know, but shouldn't he know better than to play poker against the devil?

"Ooh, Sammy, your dad's losing big time," Lucifer brags without looking up. He's being surprisingly quiet, trying not to wake everyone.

"How're you cheating this time?" Gabriel asks him.

"I'm not cheating!" Lucifer exclaims as if he's offended.

Gabriel walks over to him as he picks up his cards, and Lucifer doesn't even try to hide the fact that he's changing them once they're in his hand. Gabriel grins, amused, as he says, "Huh, guess not."

He walks back over to Sam, who's now being as much of an awkward wallflower as Michael is. "Hi, Samwich!" he says as if they hadn't just spent hours together. He stands on his toes to give Sam a quick peck on the lips before standing by the boy's side. Sam can't help but look at John, knowing he was not happy last time he saw the two of them together. John barely glances up from his game, not seeming to care at all. Well, that's nice, at least.

"Hey, Mike!" Gabriel greets him with a smile as if just noticing him.

"Hello, Gabriel," Michael replies.

"Hey, we should all play something together!" Gabriel announces.

"Like what?" Lucifer asks.

"I don't know. Just something."

"Very descriptive. A-plus for you," Lucifer replies sarcastically.

"There aren't a whole lot of games for eight players," Sam says. "I mean, unless you're planning a Rock Paper Scissors tournament, I don't know what you're expecting."

Gabriel turns to him, holding up a fist. "Whatever works."

Sam rolls his eyes. "Okay, fine. Rock, paper, scissors, shoot! Dammit!"

Gabriel grins, waving his paper around happily. "I knew you'd do that 'cause you told me Dean always does scissors so you do rock and I can do paper!"

"Really, Moose? is what you entertain your boyfriend with?" Crowley says judgmentally. "Not about saving the world or starting the apocalypse? You talk about Rock Paper Scissors?"

"I tell him about all that stuff," Sam replies.

"Okay, not true; you never told me you were Lucifer's vessel," Gabriel reminds him. "I mean, I already knew that, but you didn't know I knew it."

"Because I didn't know if you were with Heaven or Hell, so I didn't want to say anything in case —"

"You lost your precious little Trickster?" Gabriel substitutes with a grin.

"In case you stuck me in a bunch of tv shows," Sam finishes. "Which you the proceeded to do just as I was about I tell you."

"Okay, but that was a great trick, you have to admit," Gabriel says.

"No! No, it really, really wasn't!"

"You're just a hater," Gabriel huffs.

"I'm just a hater with you," Sam replies.

"Aw, come on. You love me!" To demonstrate, Gabriel kisses him briefly.

"Okay, yes I do," Sam admits softly, so only Gabriel can hear it. "I really, really do."
