Ez
I knelt to the ground and did as Enin, bare my neck to the giant werewolf. I sighed and screwed my eyes shut, breathing in a lung full of air only to blow out the frustration mixed with fear that seemed to be bubbled up in my system for long.
One look.
One glance from Enin warned me not to do anything stupid and I digressed, opting for fate to play its game tonight and petrify me yet again. I bit my tongue and watched as he seated himself on the empty molden seat meant for the spirit of the place that was worshipped by the locals.
But I must admit, It looked almost majestic with the way the thin silver rays of the moon touched his figure, making one part of his face shine and the other, to glimmer in the shadow with just a gold dot, moving, scrutinising.
"My name is Gonvolt Enin, Lord Arkas, and he, the human is Ezara Karke"
A hum came out from him, the corners of his lips splitting open in a grin as his eyes met mine making me shiver.
"Nice"
He licked his lip and his mouth started watering. I grimaced as a thick pool of saliva dripped from the corner of his mouth.
He stood up and got closer.
"I see you care too much about this friend of yours"
He said, standing right infront of me. I looked up at him and locked my gaze with his.
"I do"
He hummed and walked towards Enin, grabbing her face in a tight grip, making blood drip from her face as his nails dug into her skin. He then sniffed her face, drool dripping from the corner of his mouth again. He threw her to the ground and went back to sit on the seat.
His smirk widened as I glared at him.
"Go and find me food if both of you dont want to become my meal instead"
Enin and I looked at each other, bowed out heads and walked out of the place just like that. And that was how we ended up being in the middle of the forest with sling shots, knives and chainsaws. Who knew she would have a rifle with her?
She rearranged her specs, got the gun pointing at the rabbit we had been chasing for an hour and took a shot, our first hunt.
"We'll need more".
She turned to look at me. I sighed. Of course, that bloody creature was huge enough on its own. I nodded my head at her and walked to pick up the rabbit and throw it in the bag.
"Are we even allowed to hunt in this forest?"
"No"
She shook her head.
"It is actually protected. But don't worry, I've taken care of the authorities protecting this place tonight"
"How?"
It was the only thing that came out of my mouth. Then I remembered she's a sorcerer and not an ordinary human like me.
"Oh, never mind. Pretty sure you have one of those crazy abilities"
Her smile dropped for a moment before smiling back at me. She just nodded her head.
"We should hurry"
Did I say something I shouldn't? I frowned and walked behind her, thinking about what I said when a large deer jumped from among the trees and ran the other way. Enin and I were hot on its tail till we found the deer again, this time it was drinking water from the lake.
Quietly, I whispered a sorry and shot at the deer's head with the sling shot. It was the same time as she shot with the gun right at its head. The deer soon collapsed on the ground, it's blood turning the water red.
"Nice shot"
She jumped up to me and patted my back. I smiled down at her.
"You too".
I walked up to the deer and threw it around my neck, holding it with its legs on both sides. This felt like a fresh breath of air. By the time we were on our third rabbit, the sun was slowly beginning to rise.
I yawned, both sleepy and hungry. She seemed to look beaten as well. This was the moment I remembered how much I owed her for everything, though things did took a turn, she was there. Exhaustedly, we went back to the shrine where he waited for us.
"Took you long enough"
We dropped all the stuffs at his feed and stood infront of him as we watched him devour the whole thing in one or two bites, the sound of the bones grinding under his teeth making my skin crawl.
Once he was done, he licked his lip clean and groomed the hair on his body which were soaked in blood.
"That was quite a meal after a long time..."
He murmured to himself and sat back on the seat.
"Ask! What do you both want?"
"Rix! We want to meet him"
The werewolf rolled his eyes and nodded his head. We held our breaths as the claws started retracting back into the nails and the form changing little by little as the bones cracked and twisted. And the thick hairs on his body starting to disappear along with his height, shortening.
I quickly went over and caught him as he fell.
"Rix…"
He groaned.
"Rix?"
I placed him on the golden seat and shook him lightly. A flicker of hope lit up inside me when his lashes fluttered. At this point, Enin was sitting beside me, both of us holding our breaths as he opened his eyes and started fighting in the air. He scratched a chunk of my skin and pushed Enin away from him.
"Stop.... Stop!"
"Rix!"
I slapped him hard on his face to bring him back to reality.
"Ez?"
He squinted his eyes and blinked. With no other words, I engulfed him in a tight hug.
"Ez!!!!"
The happiness in his voice was what I needed all along. He was okay.
"Shhhh"
I rubbed his back to soothe his trembling form.
"They- the shadows…."
His hands shook more and his tears grew, when he remembered what he remembered.
"It's gonna be okay, Rix"
